nittany ramModeratorThe Rams could win and they could lose. Either way, it will be close – a couple plays being the difference between victory and defeat.
nittany ramModeratorI’d kill all the humans to save the animals.
Heck, I’d kill all the humans just to save the dogs.
Alas if we wait 100 years, I fear there won’t be many animals to save though.
nittany ramModeratorI identify as an ‘earthling’. A being-of-the-Biosphere.
I dont like all this ‘my border vs your border’ tribal bullshit. It reminds me of Religions and Race and all the other primitive ways human-systems have created “us versus them” constructs. Systems create “the others” and then dehumanize them, blah blah blah.
I hate it.
But then that view of mine does not lead me to any simple answers to the question of “should everyone just be allowed to move to the USA or North Korea or anywhere they want on the Planet, and how would that work…etc…?
w
vYou identify only as an ‘Earthling’?
I take it you don’t feel any kinship with the sentient slime mold of Alpha Seti 6 then?
See, I identify not as an earthling but as a Multiversian – a title that encompasses all the universes and the infinite number of dimensions in existence and even some of those that don’t exist.
I guess I’m just not limited by an archaic tribal mentality like you are.
Seriously though, I feel exactly the same way. I think people should be free to move around the planet as they wish, with the exception being into environmentally sensitive areas. But I’m not sure how that would work either.
We’ve talked about this stuff before when contemplating mankind’s future. Some thought that a utopian ‘Star Trekian’ future where all the peoples of the world are united by their humanity under one benevolent government was likely. Others thought that mankind would likely be extinct along with most of the planet’s other megafauna within 200 years.
I’m in the latter camp.
nittany ramModeratorWell, it’s actually about 11 million now. And there are pros to having them around too. They are a vital component of many industries and US agriculture would completely collapse without them. According to Harvard economist Jorge Borjas, the net worth of the average American has actually increased because of them.
Also, they generate about $12 billion dollars per year in Social Security taxes and about $11 billion per year in state and local taxes.
Crime rates among undocumented workers are lower than they are for the average US citizen.
And there’s more. There are cons as well but overall I think the country is better off with them.
I know it’s around 11M now. That’s why I made the quip of ‘down from 13M?’. IMO, the cons outweigh the pros. Gains from immigrants largely go to immigrants, because their contribution to the aggregate economy doesn’t produce a net benefit to the native-born population. They get tons of aid from the gubmint. And while crime rates are lower than they are for the average US citizen, is it proportionate? And why would it be acceptable for even ONE undocumented worker (illegal immigrant) to commit crimes on our soil?
Well for me, I try to put myself in their shoes. Would I enter a country illegally so that I could feed my family or give them the chance of a better life? Should my family suffer just because through random chance they were born on the wrong side of an arbitrary border? I mean, these people are just like me. They want the same things out of life that I want. I’m not going to deny them the chance to get just a little taste of what I have and enjoy. And what I have is largely due to me being born on the right side of that same arbitrary border.
nittany ramModeratorHe was a 7-9-Bullshit-player.
So why did they cut him?
w
vHe was more of a 5-11, 6-10 BS player. I think Fisher cut him to send the message that anyone who threatens his 7-9 birthright would be gone.
nittany ramModeratorI don’t know if you’re aware of this X, but
illegal immigration really isn’t an issue currently. It’s been used by Trump and other Republicans to whip the masses into a frenzy but the number of illegal immigrants in the US is shrinking and has been for several years.Link: http://www.pewhispanic.org/2015/11/19/more-mexicans-leaving-than-coming-to-the-u-s/
Shrinking from nearly 13,000,000? Well that’s nice. There’s still the issue of the fiscal cost of unlawful immigrants and amnesty to the U.S. taxpayer. Unless or until that’s a net zero, then there’s still an issue.

nittany ramModeratorWell, I didn’t see the game, but I find it difficult to blame a defense for a loss after giving up ZERO points through three and a half quarters when their offense can only muster 10 points through four.
This team has its weaknesses but defense isn’t one of them.
Busy watching the Seattle game, huh.
Yes, not because I have to but because I like to keep an eye on our enemies.
You, on the other hand, as founder and president of The Official Pete Carroll Fan Club are obligated to watch.
nittany ramModeratorThe alternative is to just drop immigration policies altogether and let whoever wants to come across illegally, do just that. If they’re terrorists, or drug dealers, or violent criminals, or looking for government welfare, then fine. Everybody come over and destroy and/or pillage this great Country in the interest of political correctness and “love”.

nittany ramModeratorFive years, no winning seasons. SK is a ruthless businessman. Do you really believe he would allow his companies to drift under a stubborn, intransigent leader like Fisher?
I don’t think so.
But don’t all of Kroenke’s sports teams suck?

Well, if you did see the game, in fact the defense DID lose it. When the rain stopped and Miami could throw–that’s late in the game–the Rams committed a series of bad penalties that basically handed the Dolphins the win late.
They did play well before that.
Perhaps the defense collapsed at the end but it’s not their fault that 14 points was all that was needed to win this game.
We should expect a victory when up by 10 pts with only 6 minutes left but protecting a lead is the responsibility of the defense and the offense.

nittany ramModeratori’m not going to say whether he should be fired or not. but if he was, i’d want josh mcdaniels.
Really? But he’s been a failure everywhere he didn’t have Tom Brady.
Remember how clueless he was as the Rams OC?
Maybe he’s learned a thing or two since then but he wouldn’t be one of my choices.
Although if Fisher was fired, I’m not sure who I would want to replace him. I haven’t been that thrilled with the lists of ‘hot’ coaching prospects I’ve seen.
Maybe if they coaxed Chucky or Cowher out of retirement…
nittany ramModeratorI guess we’re really gonna find out how ready Goff is today.
My concern is if the Rams’ o-line can hold up to the onslaught of Wake and Suh.
And a rookie making his first start is often still thinking instead of reacting instinctively. It’s a lot to ask of him to have to deal with constant pressure on top of all the thinking he must do about progressions, alignments, reads, etc.
If he plays well in the face of all that it will be no mirage. We’ll know he’s ready.
nittany ramModeratorAre you kidding me? Still under the influence on the way to practice?
What a dumbass.
.
He is that.
Wonder if he gets cut? Fisher really has to stick to “no more 7-9 bullshit” comment and in my mind this fits that bill.
The guy was comin on…then decides to drive to work drunk…I just don’t get it.
Fisher cut a guy for having a girl in his dorm room. Hard to see how he can let this slide as this is much more egregious.
On the other hand the guy he cut wasn’t going to make the team anyway. Troy Hill has struggled but he plays a lot and they drafted him with the expectation of becoming a quality starter eventually. It will be interesting to see what Fisher does.November 19, 2016 at 12:02 pm in reply to: Mayhew and Shatner wage Star Trek vs Star Wars Twitter war #59001
nittany ramModeratorI think the characters in the original Star Trek are much more interesting than those in Star Wars. I am more of a fan of the tv series than the movies.
nittany ramModeratorThe problem is not what they believe, but how their beliefs affect others. Because those beliefs will ultimately be turned into actions. Sometimes overtly but usually more subtly and less obvious. But those actions have a negative impact on people with less power and privilege. I want to live in a society where those actions are immediately exposed and condemned.
I don’t want to be offended. I don’t need to be offended. The alt-right has nothing to teach me. What you see as a brave fight against manufactured racism I see as an attempt to legitimize their racism.
I just want people to be kind to one another and to stop punching down.
How will people with biases turn their beliefs into actions? What actions are you talking about, exactly? I can see how you’d want to see *actions* exposed and condemned, because that’s warranted. That’s also different than condemning someone for how they think or how they’re wired. Just like you don’t need or want to be offended, I don’t need or want to be TOLD to be offended. See the distinction?
I, too, would prefer people just be kind to one another. I think everyone wants that with the exception of those who *need* to be engaged and angry about something. But I’m also cognizant of the fact that it will never happen. There will never be a Utopian World Society. There’s just too much divide, globally, that will continue to be fueled by differences in either race, religion, ideology, or class. No Political leader is going to solve it either. Everyone thought Obama would be this great Uniter, and he did exactly shit to heal the Country. It’s worse now than when he gained office. Markedly worse. Even if Trump had the vision and the perfect plan to close the racial divide, it would still be met with stiff resistance simply because he’s him.
It’s just never gonna happen. So in the meantime, people just have to focus on what they can do, individually, to make their lives better. Will their lives be better if they compulsively and obsessively try to make everyone adhere to a specific moral code? Not likely. So don’t do that. Will their lives be better if they try tod find fault in or ridicule other people because of how they think or how they speak? Not likely. So don’t do that. Will their lives be better if they finally accept the fact that people are different and you can’t control who they are or how they’re wired? Yeah, probably. So start with that.
Well, no you can’t legislate morality. All that you can do is make laws that don’t allow the beliefs of one group to impinge upon the rights of another.
But I do think people can be taught to see the differences of other groups as just differences and not to automatically judge those differences as being better or worse. The world continues to get smaller and different groups are exposed to one another at a rate far greater than at any time in history. I think the exposure to other cultures makes some people feel uncomfortable. They think their way of life is in jeopardy and right now there is a lot of backlash against that. This leads to groups like the alt-right. They take a defensive posture instead of trying to understand or see the positives. But as the world continues to get smaller eventually the differences will seem less important. That’s my hope anyway.
nittany ramModeratorThere are people who have biases or prejudices, and no amount of condemnation or rehabilitation is going to change that. So let them be who they are. Who cares? If a Klansman can’t find peace, then that’s his sorry lot in life. Similarly, if a racist-hunter can’t find peace, then that’s his or her lot as well.
The problem is not what they believe, but how their beliefs affect others. Because those beliefs will ultimately be turned into actions. Sometimes overtly but usually more subtly and less obvious. But those actions have a negative impact on people with less power and privilege. I want to live in a society where those actions are immediately exposed and condemned.

nittany ramModeratorX. I’m a registered Democrat but I’m no Democrat, if you know what I mean. Neither of the two major parties represent me and my beliefs. To me, the Democrats are just the lesser of two evils but they are evil just the same. Two parties with exactly the same ultimate goal.
And that goal has nothing to do with making the best life possible for the most people as possible. Neither of them care about saving the last few wild places on the earth or protecting the planet.
Their goal is to make the rich and powerful more rich and powerful.
That’s pretty much it.
Anyway, that’s the way I see things.

nittany ramModeratorTony Heller (aka Stephen Doddard) claims debunked.
nittany ramModeratorRevamped satellite data shows no pause in global warming…
nittany ramModeratorGreenwald also notes that Obama leaves office with high approval ratings, suggesting there’s little evidence to show that racism is any more an issue in 2016 than it was in 2008 and 2012:
What a ridiculous supposition. Obama’s approval ratings say nothing about the amount of racism that exists in the country at any given time. They are completely unrelated.
nittany ramModeratorBecause cost efficient oil is what runs a modern society and a modern military. Alternative energies are not cost efficient. Perhaps some day.
Some day will never come unless we make a commitment to ending our reliance on oil. That means we have to go ‘all in’ on alternative energy research and development. The nickel and dime approach we take towards alternative energy right now is a ruse designed to do one thing – to make sure we never develop energy sources that can replace oil. Our government is bought and paid for by the fossil fuel industry and Trump the ‘anti-establishment’ president elect will do everything he can to strengthen oil’s death grip on the US.
nittany ramModeratorHe’s also anti-science and anti alternative energy
https://insideclimatenews.org/news/16112016/steve-bannon-trump-white-house-climate-conspiracy
“…Stephen Bannon has called government support of alternative energy “madness.” His conservative website, Breitbart News, relentlessly pursues the idea that global warming is an invention of activists, university researchers and renewable energy industry profiteers determined to assert global governance for their own gain.
“Pure scum” is how Breitbart News describes the alleged schemers, and the site suggested that the Vatican had been taken over by Marxists after Pope Francis urged the world to protect the environment and slow climate change. Bannon has cited a faked TIME magazine cover, purportedly from the 1970s, as evidence that scientists once thought the world was cooling….
…
…Bannon introduced Moore, who is a Trump adviser, as “one of the great economic thinkers of our day.” Moore’s book, which urges allowing the energy to build the pipelines it wants to build, opening up public lands to drilling, and putting restraints on the Environmental Protection Agency, lays out “the case for what the country has to do,” said Bannon. Moore argued EPA’s regulations “are intentionally designed to shut down our domestic energy industry.” …He’s not against alternative energy. He’s against government subsidy of alternative energy. IOW pay for your own damn Prius.
Why should the government not subsidize alternative energy when it subsidizes oil to the tune of billions per year?

nittany ramModeratorMeanwhile, Fisher stuck to the plan he laid out almost from the moment the Rams made the call to Goff informing him he was their guy seven months ago.
Fisher maintained over and over and over that Goff would not see the field as the Rams’ starter until Fisher and his staff were convinced Goff was fit to succeed and not just hold down the position.
Yeah I’m seeing conspiracy theories on why Goff is finally starting all over the internet.
Everything from this was Stan’s call to Fisher needs to start Goff if he hopes to get an extension, etc etc…
The reality is this was the plan all along. Goff would start when he was ready. It’s as simple as that. There’s no need to come with baseless theories to explain it.
nittany ramModeratorOh, and if these assholes actually pass a Muslim registry, I think we should ALL register and render it moot.
There’s a big movement for that. If there’s a Muslim registry, non-Muslims should register. Choke the machine.

nittany ramModeratorMiami will likely use a lot of presnap motion and disguised coverages. They’d be stupid not to. Really need to get the running game going in this one.
Ah, but Miami’s DC must suspect that Boras would know that so he clearly cannot choose to use presnap movement and disguised coverages.
