nittany ramModeratorBrady is driving the Pats downfield in Overtime in the Super Bowl.
He takes a hard hit. Who the hell knows if he has a Concussion.
He says he’s fine — but a guy in a booth pulls him.
His back-up throws an INT.What would you call that?

vPoetic justice.
nittany ramModeratorWatching the hapless Browns makes me think: “It could be worse–I could be a Browns fan.”
I am starting to feel like that is about ALL that Rams fans have these days. At least they aren’t the Browns.
As I grew up, the Rams were feared and respected. From the late 60s until 1990, the Rams were one of the most respected teams in the league.
Now – I realize – there are millions of football fans who have think of the Rams as a perpetual doormat to the league, with the exception of the brief candle that was the GSOT.
I am tired of this shit.
Interesting to consider the difference in how the Rams were perceived on the west coast compared to the east coast.
When I was growing up in central PA during the 70’s, the Rams weren’t highly regarded by a lot of people. I’m sure this was mostly due to the fact that we never got to see them play. On those rare occasions when we did get to see them they were usually losing a playoff game. The perception was they couldn’t win big games, so they garnered little respect. People had the impression that the Rams padded their record against the weaklings in their division (Falcons, 49’ers and Saints) and then were exposed in the playoffs. Of course, constantly having to fight this perception was no fun.
But somehow I endured. Somehow I remained a Rams fan.
Uh, yay?
nittany ramModeratorThe Rams are a mediocre QB away from contending. I take it for granted that the OL will be better next year. A decent OL and a mediocre passing game is enough to win games with the defense (should it stay pat). That is all the Rams needed this year.
A #1 WR would help a lot, but the biggest need is a QB who can rate in the upper 80s, low 90s.
That could be as close as Sean Mannion, and as far away as the final Star Wars film.
Yeah, if Mannion can play, that would help things along nicely. Problem is, we’re not going to know if he can play or not prior to next season. I think they need to draft a QB high. They need a guy who can start as a rookie. If Mannion or Foles step up then great, but I’m not willing to wait and see on them.
nittany ramModeratorSorry that people are ignoring your question and instead spouting off about their opinions on the state of the Rams.
To answer your question, it all depends on your point of reference. For example, for me in Bennington, VT, the Rams are 1058.3 miles away. For you in Morgantown, WV, they are 647.7 miles away.
Hope that helps.
Seriously, this team is a good o-line, a competent QB and a good WR away from contention. How far away that is depends. If the raw materials to fix the o-line are already in place and just need experience and to get healthy, then the distance away from contention is a little shorter. As you know you’ll get varying opinions on that but I think they need a LT.
I think it’s safe to say that the QB they need is probably not on the roster. Neither is the WR. Obviously the Rams luck would have to dramatically change for them to fix both in a
single offseason. Could the light turn on for Foles and Robinson in that time? Yeah but I don’t think it’s likely. Doesn’t look like there are decent FA options for QB so the Rams will have to take their chances in the draft. A good WR should be easy enough to get through the draft or FA, but Snisher hasn’t demonstrated that they know what a good one looks like yet. So I think they are most likely at least another year away from contention. If they get really lucky perhaps they could contend next season but I think that’s a tall order as of now.-

nittany ramModeratorI salute those who could withstand 4 full quarters of that torture.
Well, i think a TRUE DieHard Ram fan
would become a Raider fan at this point.
Just on principle.w
vFortunately I’ve been a Raiders fan in good standing for some time now. Zooey put in a good word for me. I already know the catch phrases and the secret handshake.
So when all you newbies come to the next meeting try not to embarrass me.
nittany ramModeratorWell, I didn’t watch the game and spent the time doing schoolwork instead. I did tune in during the 3rd quarter long enough to see the score was 31-7 and watch Foles float a pass over Gurley’s head on 3rd and 3. That was enough.
I salute those who could withstand 4 full quarters of that torture.
nittany ramModeratorHappy birthday, NE!1
nittany ramModeratorMy wife is working until 4 EST so I’m doing the cooking this year.
For the first time ever.
Sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and the green bean casserole are made and standing by.
The turkey is stuffed and in the oven.
Still have to make gravy, crescent rolls, corn and open up a can of the semi-solid gelled cranberry sauce (which is the best kind of cranberry sauce).
If you don’t hear from me again it means I’m probably dead from Salmonella poisoning.
It’s been an honor.
I have to run out for more corn. My wife never buys enough corn. 11.5 years of marriage and you’d think she’d know how much corn I like to eat.
Seems like you already know this but I wanted to comment yesterday but was called away. Why risk the stuffing? Too much of a chance for the meat to become dry before the stuffing can reach a safe temp. Besides, no bird can hold enough stuffing eaten at my house. Make the stuffing, I guess dressing, separate in the oven. Just some unsolicited advice.
I’m no expert but the stuffing (it was called ‘filling’ when I lived in central PA) was nice and moist despite being in the turkey. Perhaps because I basted the turkey every 30 minutes and some of the juice was getting in the stuffing? My wife usually makes stuffing for the turkey and also makes another batch she cooks separately but I wasn’t that ambitious.
nittany ramModeratorThe offseason will be interesting.
w
vThis may be the most interesting offseason in 20 years.
You have all the questions surrounding the QB and the pass offense in general. There are also tough personnel decisions to be made on defense – the contracts of many good players will be up. Can’t resign them all. Which means this will be another critical draft for the defense as well as the offense.
Then, of course, there’s the move…

nittany ramModeratorYeah, Rob Ryan backed out at the last minute. Rams dodged a bullet. To be fair though, Ryan has nothing like the talent in New Orleans that the Rams have.
nittany ramModeratorHappy Birthday, SD!
nittany ramModeratorWell, I don’t want Fisher to be fired. I’m content to let him finish out his contract and see where things stand after next season.
However, I think it’s very premature to give him an extension. He has yet to show that he can build an offense as most of his personnel decisions on offense have not panned out. And of course, tbe decision to trade for Foles was a disaster. I suppose it wasn’t possible for Fisher to know that Foles would be historically bad, however there were plenty of people who thought the trade was a mistake from the start.
I also don’t think Fisher or Rams management thought of this season as a “do over”. I think they expected to be playoff contenders this season.
nittany ramModeratorNo matter what you think of Fisher, you have to admit it’s odd that a coach with a 24 – 34 record is getting an extension. Perhaps it would make sense if the Rams were trending upward, but that’s not the case since it looks like they need a QB and still have other personnel issues on offense.
nittany ramModeratorHere’s hoping that Stedman has a full recovery.
And yet another reason to want to forget this miserable season.
nittany ramModeratorIf Keenum can play I’d stick with him at least one more week. If he can’t go–I’d throw Mannion out there. Foles may give them a better chance to win–but he hasn’t proven it lately–but let’s see what Mannion has. It would be great to evaluate him in some real games and see how he holds up. This team has to know the state of the position going forward. Because right now–it isn’t solved. But I’m not sure any QB can thrive in this offense behind this line.
‘Well, the current state of the o-line is why I wouldn’t play Mannion. I don’t want to subject my inexperienced rookie to that punishment. I’d wait to play him until I thought he had a decent chance to succeed.
I think I’d start Foles. Let’s see if the benching refocused him. Give him a chance to salvage his career.
nittany ramModeratorTelling a trainer to leave the field when he’s accessing the injury status of a player seems like a pretty irresponsible thing for a ref to do.
nittany ramModeratorhaven’t watched the game yet. not sure if i can bring myself to watch it.
one thing. with all these ol injuries is there something the rams coaching staff is or isn’t doing to cause these injuries? or is it just extremely bad luck?
The Rams do seem to be a statistical outlier as far as o-line injuries go.
Or do other teams experience injuries at a similar rate?
I wonder if there is variation based on blocking schemes? For example, is reach zone blocking associated with a higher injury rate than power blocking?
My gut tells me ‘no’ – the Rams have just been unlucky – but I wonder if such a study has ever been done…
nittany ramModeratorFisher is certainly having his worst week since he’s been HC of the Rams. He’s under fire for keeping Keenum in the game…
http://www.turfshowtimes.com/2015/11/23/9782026/st-louis-rams-jeff-fisher-case-keenum-concussion
Enh. I think Fisher has a long record of handling
injured players pretty carefully. Seems like he
always brings them along slowly and gives them
plenty of time to recover. This situation is easy to second-guess after
slow motion replays etc. I just dont
put this on Fisher.w
vIf you watch the video it’s easy to see that Keenum was knocked silly. He couldn’t even get up on his own. Although they don’t show it in the video I think he staggered a bit even after he was on his feet. I don’t know how this got missed. Many people are at fault for allowing Keenum to continue to play but certainly Fisher bears some responsibility.

nittany ramModeratorFor me, This is the most disappointing year,
in the last decade or so.Have we hit bottom yet? Is this
bottom ?w
vDisappointing losses are starting to bleed together for me. Hard to distinguish among them. This team leads the league in disappointing losses.
nittany ramModeratorFrankly I didn’t expect them to be IN the game and yet somehow, ugly as it was, they were.
See I expected them to be in the game today because of the defense. I suspect they will be able to keep most games close because of the defense…until they finally get worn down from carrying the entire burden every week.
However, it’s not like they played the 85 Bears today.
They played a team that was 2 – 7. A team that likely will not get many other wins.
I can understand why you thought they’d get blown out but that just speaks to what an utter mess this offense is that you would expect them to get killed by a 2 – 7 team.
And to be truthful the offense was a mess before the injuries started mounting up. It’s been a mess nearly the entire season.

nittany ramModeratorI am surprised at the emotions over this game.
They had Keenum at qb after Foles melted down, and a young OL that was made even LESS experienced by having to replace (at this point) 5 different starters…Saffold, Brown, Havenstein, then add Williams (last game) and now Donnal to that.
Frankly I didn’t expect them to be IN the game and yet somehow, ugly as it was, they were.
Yet to me the frustration sounds like people who were expecting much more and got disappointed.
I didn’t expect Keenum to fix anything or even play well. As a matter of fact, the results probably would have been the same had Foles started. And that’s why I’m upset – because a guy who probably shouldn’t be on an NFL roster is no worse than the regular starting QB.
I guess this and all the other issues with the offense and the litany of bad decisions regarding it finally came to a head for me today.

nittany ramModeratorI swear it just looks to me that Robinson daydreams out there sometimes. His head is NOT in the game.
I don’t think he fully knows his assignments. He looks confused to me.
That play where Upshaw beats him is just unbelievable–even the announcer couldn’t believe it. Robinson doesn’t even seem to look at the guy and he’s RIGHT THERE. Only when Upshaw is blowing past him does he turn and swat at him–much too late and he’s left watching the QB go down.
He’s awful.
The Rams might as well resign themselves to the fact that they will need a new LT.
And a guard.
And a QB.
And some WR’s.
And a TE.
Probably a DE.
And a coupla corners.

Got word in locker room Rams QB Case Keenum has been diagnosed with a concussion.Well, the Keenum era comes to a merciful end.
Unfortunately, Foles is next man up.
There’s nothing left to play for. Might as well start Foles the rest of the way and see if he can salvage his career. That way they’ll have a better picture of the QB situation going into next season.
nittany ramModeratorThat’s my fear: by the time they get a decent offense–not great just decent–they’ll have to rebuild the defense. Years of misery ahead. So glad I lived to see them get a ring.
I have serious reservations about whether Fisher can fix the offense. Just about every decision he’s made regarding the offense since he’s been in St Louis has blown up in his face. I think he’s out of his depth.
nittany ramModeratorWell, that was brutal.
But not surprising. The Rams offense is about as ugly as an offense can be. If it was a fish it would be a hagfish or a goblin shark.
The Rams o-line is a mess with injuries and Greg Robinson, who was expected to be the strength of the unit by now still can’t figure out who to block.
It’s no shock that Keenum didn’t play well. I’m not sure he belongs on an NFL roster. Unfortunately with Keenum in the game there was still no noticeable drop-off in performance from Foles.
I’ve had enough of Legatron. The blocked XP was not going to be good anyway. It looked like he hit it too far to the left. And once again he comes up short (actually wide right) in the clutch.
Great defensive effort for the most part. Unfortunately by the time they get this pathetic excuse for an offense squared away the defense will need to be rebuilt.

nittany ramModeratorAfter seeing the Baltimore game, he’s got a lot more work to do.
nittany ramModeratorYup.
The National media keeps talking about this game
by pointing out the Rams strong Defense,
but they haven’t been factoring in
the Q-factor. It simply AINT
the Ram Defense without Q,
or with a damaged-Q.They need a Max-Q
to be a max-Q defense.
They cant have a min-Q
or no-Q.This is all advanced algebra,
people.D – Q = L
Even if you use Quantum-Kabbalistic-Algebra, and subtract
Foles and add in Keenum, its still
a loss: D – (Q-F) + K = Lw
vBut you forgot to factor in Welker who now is in his second week so he has a better handle on the offense.
D – (Q-F) + K + 2W = w
