InvaderRamModeratorthey need to re-sign this guy. i mean how often does a team let not only it’s best player but arguably the best player in the entire league go?
InvaderRamModeratorwell. when ya put it that way…
ha.

Mike & Mike this AM
They were playing fill in the blank.
Question was: The best two teams in the NFC are______________?
Philadelphia was the immediate answer. Then there was a long pause. Then one of the Mikes said “I think you have to at least think about the Rams.”
Then without another word about the Rams they talked about Carolina being possibly the next team.
Short, but interesting. Would have liked to hear them discuss pros cons of the Rams as the next best team in the NFC.
eagles at rams. wentz vs goff. hopefully it’s still a relevant game by then. should be exciting. i hope aaron buries carson.

InvaderRamModeratorThe Rams’ special teams contributed 17 Expected Points Added in Sunday’s win over the Jaguars, the highest EPA total for any special teams unit in the last 10 years. The Rams got a kickoff return (by Pharoh Cooper) and a blocked punt (by Cory Littleton) for a touchdown. Greg Zuerlein made a 56-yard field goal, and Johnny Hekker pinned four punts inside the opponents’ 20.
crazy to think that the rams might have the best special teams coordinator in the nfl. likely the best defensive coordinator in the nfl. and an up am coming offense led by one of the brightest young offensive minds in football.
InvaderRamModeratormy brain can’t handle this. top 3???
The Rams are heading into one of the toughest stretches of the year. Seven of their next eight games are against teams that are currently .500 or better, and six of those games are against conference foes and three will be division games.
i like it. beat the good teams. that’s how it should be.
InvaderRamModeratorrams need to re-sign donald.
InvaderRamModeratorSean McVay was walking out of the Rams’ facility at 10 pm on Thursday, six hours after practice ended, and saw Aaron Donald’s car in the lot. He went into the D-line room and caught Donald watching film of how offensive linemen set on pass plays. “When you have the talent that also matches up with the motivation, the appreciation for the process, the preparation and the approach, you get special players like him,” McVay said. “… You just walk away and say, ‘I’m sure glad that guy’s on my team.’”
re-sign the man already.
InvaderRamModeratorI get a little bit of a sense there that you think I am arguing with you on this, a bit.
no, not at all. a lot of it is just thinking out loud. but it’s kind of interesting to me, that even though they struggled. they can get better.
i mean i find that a little bit exciting.
and the jags defense shut down roethlisberger and bell the previous week. held them to no touchdowns. and contrast that to goff and gurley – an extremely young backfield and how they did. so while i’m concerned that they didn’t do that well, i also realize it was against a defense that basically shut down a backfield consisting of a qb that’s won multiple superbowls and a running back with hall of fame potential. not even mentioning arguably the best wide receiver in the game.
so the fact that they i think they could actually do better than what they did has me excited.

InvaderRamModeratorcool. thanks, ag.
InvaderRamModeratori went to the niner game last year with my nephews. literally a sea of red. and the niners suck. and by the end of the game my nephews were cheering on the niners…
i told them i’m never taking them to a football game again.
InvaderRamModeratorIn some categories the Rams offense came in higher than the Jax defense has allowed on average. So on average, with Jax the opposing qb’s qb rating is 60; Goff’s against them was 86.2 . Their YPA allowed is 4.5; Goff got 5.9 (against anyone else that would be considered bad). Jax gets 1.7 Ints a game; Rams threw none.
i understand all that and yet i think goff and the passing game could have done better. and that’s not even putting them down. that’s all while understanding that the jags have maybe the best pass defense in the league. i mean they just shut down roethlisberger and le’veon bell. although i grant that goff was largely protected by mcvay unlike ben who got exposed big time by the game plan.
but goff and that cast have not had much time together. the oline 2/5 of which have new teammates have only had 6 games to really gel. goff has 6 games in this new system and 13 overall – 5 and 12 going into the game. his 3 best receivers weren’t even on the team last year. a rookie tight end and a second year tight end. how could i not think they could be better?
so that’s also exciting to me. this does not give the feeling to me of that linehan team that went 4-2. that had an offense whose main stars at receiver were holt and bruce who were at or near the end of their careers. bulger i think was a qb who had pretty much peaked at that point. jackson was the one young star with potential.
on defense pretty much the same deal. mostly a veteran defense without any blue chip talent. guys who were near the end of their careers or young guys without the potential i believe these rams have.
i’m feeling pretty good about this team, but mostly i’m excited by the prospect of watching goff and this young offense develop. just hope that goff can stay healthy and that they can adequately replace whitworth when the time comes which will be no easy task.

InvaderRamModeratorand also to add to that the guys around him haven’t played in this system either. just getting that timing and chemistry i’d have to think is crucial especially when the defenders are elite. any hesitation can lead to a fraction of a second off which can be taken advantage of.

InvaderRamModeratori’m trying to download the seattle and jacksonville games, but they’re being downloaded as a text file.
what am i doing wrong?
InvaderRamModeratorSo, how have defenses been able to slow down Goff?
Are they taking away his primary target and he’s having trouble getting through his progressions?
Is he locking on?
Or is it mostly a matter of playing really good defenses?
i don’t know. i’d guess it’s a combination of having his usual options taken away and just playing really good defenses.
i’m guessing going through his progressions will speed up with repetition. just seeing how a defense lines up pre-snap. and then post-snap. seeing how defenses are dropping into coverage and reacting to that. all of that should speed up with repetitions i’m assuming.
again. i don’t know. i’m no expert, but reading other people’s posts, it seems he’s doing a better job of not locking onto receivers. looking safeties off. but i’d have to think that his processing speed is still not where it should be. making him more inclined to lock onto receivers or cause just a millisecond of hesitation which elite defenders are more likely to take advantage of.
his sense of pressure and his internal clock also seem to be getting better. but again. i gotta think this will get better the more he plays.
and finally i remember ag talking about adding different things to his game and how it takes time to just fully incorporate that into one’s game. lots of things to think about for goff. maybe he’ll make a breakthrough sometime during the second half of the season. it’s only his sixth game in the mcvay offense. and he still hasn’t gone through a full offseason where he can just totally immerse himself in the offense. i think it’ll be different once he can go into an offseason having played a full 16 game schedule in the offense. then he’ll be better prepared to play against the elite defenses of the league.
InvaderRamModeratorfootball outsiders has the jags pass defense ranked first out of all 32 teams while seattle is ranked sixth.
so looking forward. and i’ll put the team rank in rush defense in parentheses.
ari – 24th (7th)
nyg – 22nd (28th)
hou – 11th (4th)
min – 21st (11th)
no – 16th (30th)
ari – 24th (7th)
phi – 15th (10th)
sea – 6th (23rd)
ten – 25th (17th)
sf – 26th (14th)definitely there will be opportunities for goff. jacksonville and seattle are the 2 toughest pass defenses goff will have to face this season with washington not too far behind at seventh.
InvaderRamModeratori’ll say this. if all of the parts around goff can figure out how to win games, then imagine what happens when it begins to click for goff.
the same was true for bradford. but he couldn’t stay healthy. let’s hope goff can stay healthy and on the field.
InvaderRamModeratoractually that last drive was more a credit to the oline and gurley. he did make a third down conversion there though.
Higbee keeps getting a fair share of targets as well.
yeah. i’m starting to think maybe he shouldn’t be getting targets. but with that secondary, maybe that’s what was available to goff.
InvaderRamModeratori’ll also say this. as bad as the offense played today, when they needed a long drive at the end to put the jags away, they grinded one out. i think they had a clutch third down conversion to kupp maybe?
anyway. that’s two times in a row goff finished a game with a strong drive. last week could have been a winning touchdown if kupp catches that ball. this week they ice the game with a field goal.
i don’t know exactly how to quantify that, but it showed me some composure from the now 23 year old.
InvaderRamModeratorsomeone correct me if i’m wrong, but it seems like woods is becoming goff’s favorite target which would make sense. he’s a smart savvy veteran wr.
InvaderRamModeratorWe have to be better on our run defense. Giving up a 75 yard run to Fournette early is not good.
Some positives is Gurley got another 100+ yard game. Defense only gave up 3 points after Jacksonville scored 14 early TDs. Those three points came in the second half.
I had a very good halftime pee as well. It felt good to unload it. Just saying.
to the rams’ credit they did limit fournette to 55 yards on 20 carries after that first run.
but yeah. it’d be nice to see them play well from start to finish once.
but they did finish the game off when they needed to.
InvaderRamModeratorgoff got through a really rough stretch of 2 games and looked… ok.
keep telling myself gotta be patient…
InvaderRamModeratori don’t think they need defensive backs anyway. line up in their 3-8 defense and dare the jags to pass.
InvaderRamModeratorLongterm, I got Everett, Kupp, Johnson, Ebukam, and Smart. So it could be 5. I don’t see Reynolds as a starter if they keep Watkins. Price and Rogers are role players.
i like ebukam too. if that were to happen. i mean holy hell.
InvaderRamModeratori gotta say it again. wow. what a draft class this could end up being. too early still, but 4 potential starters from a draft without a first rounder?
unbelievable.
InvaderRamModeratorright now i’m having nightmares of fournette running for 300 yards and knocking out rams defenders left and right.
InvaderRamModeratorlove jj. absolutely love this guy. he’s gonna be good.
if they can find a cornerback and a pass rusher in the draft next year this defense could be really good.
InvaderRamModeratortoday jared goff turns 23. he’s a pup. physically he still has a lot of maturing to do. you can see he’s already gotten bigger in just one offseason.
for a little perspective he’s younger than trubisky a rookie. in fact i think the only current starting qb younger than goff is watson.
InvaderRamModeratorI agree, and its not so much a knock on bradford as it is noticing that Goff has some special skills.
yeah. i think bradford was a good prospect and is a good player when healthy.
i think goff can be at least a notch above him. i don’t think his arm is quite as strong as bradford’s. but he’s got better pocket presence. it remains to be seen how good goff is at processing information as it’s happening on the football field. as far as being able to digest an nfl offense, i can’t really tell, but they both seem like smart guys.
This offense is gonna be so much fun to watch, when it grows up.
yeah. they’re all young and will be peaking at around the same time. the only thing i worry about is how they replace whitworth. sully too. but especially whitworth. i’m thinking they’re going to need one in 2019.

InvaderRamModeratorI just wonder why his name never comes up when they talk about great linebackers around the league.
i don’t think he’s great. i think it’s more a matter of how you replace him.
cornerback is stronger in the draft and i think there are pass rushers will be available as well in the draft.
inside backers as versatile as ogletree aren’t. and by the time his contract runs out they can sign other guys.

InvaderRamModeratori don’t know much about wentz really. haven’t seen him play, but goff’s pocket presence is light years ahead of bradford.
bradford was mobile. at least as mobile as goff, but it seemed he had no idea where the pressure was coming from.
