May 4, 2015 at 7:05 pm in reply to: now that the dust has settled a bit, how do you feel about this draft? #24045
HramParticipantI like that they seem to go for extremely athletic potential all pros in the first round and did it again this year. I am very glad they did not reach to fill a position of need it in the first round.
Love that they went ugly early with offense lineman who have experience and look good on tape. If even two of them work out, the Rams will be in good shape for the next couple of years provided they get adequate quarterback play.
I appreciate how they drafted for their philosophy this year and that they stand a good chance of simply wearing teams out by the fourth quarter of games in the near future.
I do not believe Manion will be a good professional because he is slow to read and slow to throw. However, he is very tall and if they can work on his mechanics and have a good running game so he can do play action, he may be good.
Overall I love drafting a bunch of big uglies!
HramParticipantI am buying it in the top couple of rounds or the talent can be very high except for a few low density positions if you already have a young All-Pro there like Center or tight end. Otherwise if you have someone that is truly that much higher rank than everyone else even if it is not a position of need then you should take them. If you do not need them this year he will in one or two years.
Very good starting quality offense of guards can be handled through the third round of this draft and they can always add a little bit to the money they are offering a Barksdale to get him to sign .
HramParticipantI think Mason started the first 4-8 games of the season. Gurley will probably start the 2nd half, but having Mason come in for 10-12 carries a game keeps the play action pass game going.
It’s a deep draft for Olinemen, just not many that projected as strong first rounders.
HramParticipantESPN said the Rams had Mariota 1 and Gurley 2. Regardless, if one of your top two guys is on the board at 10, you take him.
Unexpected pick. But, if he comes back healthy (read a report that it was a clean ACL tear meaning not a lot of other collateral damage) and he’s projected as the best back since Adrian Peterson then it makes sense. BPA and fits with the team identity.
Can get some damn fine Guards and centers in the 2nd and 3rd rounds this year. This draft is deep in interior lineman and I expect they will take at least one in the next two rounds and probably another by the end of the draft.
Glad we didn’t reach for Oline help.
Bet we come up with something Barksdale will agree to within the next couple of weeks. 🙂
April 21, 2015 at 7:30 pm in reply to: So the great debate continues to divide Ramdom — how good is Barksdale? #22973
HramParticipantI think he is probably somewhere in the top 20 or so right tackles in the league. Maybe top 25 but he does know our scheme coaches and players. Good enough to not be a hindrance if the rest of the law line is solid.
I’d give him 4 million a year if I was a billionaire and had that much pocket change and Space.
April 17, 2015 at 8:18 am in reply to: Jeremiah: Winston, Mariota only starting QBs in draft … + Rams & Mariota #22789
HramParticipantIf he drops within range they should consider it. Giving him a redshirt year behind Foles would be the perfect start to this very hard working young player’s career.
March 30, 2015 at 6:37 pm in reply to: Tim Barnes visiting Kansas City – He has now agreed to terms with Rams #21811
HramParticipantI would have paid more for Massey to come back. Still, if it is for the vet minimum it is probably a smart move. he knows the system, is a year older and stronger and can compete for a backup job.
March 30, 2015 at 5:01 pm in reply to: OL in free agency … Barksdale, Blalock, Wisniewski, etc. #21794
HramParticipantWell what the heck, I vote for giving him the less money now and not waiting until the draft
March 29, 2015 at 8:50 am in reply to: McShay, others speculate Rams might be interested in Mariota #21714
HramParticipantJack, Mariota played in a spread in college and, imo, would best be served by a redshirt year, but I disagree that he is a spread QB. I also do not think that if Bradford had been able to stay healthy that we’d be talking about him as a “spread” QB. Compare Bradfords rookie numbers to most rookie QBs even those that became elite. They match up very well.
Mariota is bright, dedicated, a very hard worker and the consumate teammate. He also likes to win. He has a lively enough arm, throws pretty accurately on the move while keeping his eyes downfield and has great escapability. I have little doubt he will become comfortable taking snaps and being a pocket passer if that is what is asked of him. He work ethic is on the high end.
Whether he will make it is another thing because there are so many intangibles that go into QBing in the NFL. But Mariota does have an awful lot of intangibles going for him. 🙂
March 18, 2015 at 6:13 pm in reply to: Big Board: Lack of sizzle doesn't mean this class lacks substance #20908
HramParticipantI really do not think Huntley is going to make a good NFL quarterback. I watched a bunch of his games this year and he just does not seem to have it. He is athletic but I believe he lacks patience, speed of processing information and accuracy.
I do not know anything about Grayson.

HramParticipantCheap back up guard and third string right tackle. Worked with our own line coach before a couple of years ago
And hacksaw’s son!
Count me in. 🙂
HramParticipantGood trade in my opinion because of Bradford’s injury history. We were giving him too much to take the chance on him if we could come away with a decent alternative. With this trade, we have a decent alternative.
HramParticipantFairly was a beast inside pass rusher and disrupter in college. He’s also a little bit of a knucklehead who doesn’t always work as hard as he should which is also evident in his weight problems.
A perfect Fisher project.
HramParticipantI’d take Mariota if he is there at 10 exactly because he wouldn’t have to play this year. The kid is smart and will put in the work during a redshirt year.
I wouldn’t take any other QB in this draft earlier than the 4th round. I just don’t see any of them as being great prospects.
HramParticipantNot sold on Mannion at all and I’m an Oregon State alum. He’s slow to make decisions and throw the ball.
Good size, arm strength and decent velocity, but a little too much of a statue.
Just don’t think he will ever be better than a below average backup.
HramParticipantIf you believe Bradford can’t stay healthy, then this is an excellent trade. Between college and the pros he has lost three seasons already.
I think he is a risk with a giant hit to the salary cap this year. So, while I believe it was best to roll the dice with him last year, I think it more prudent at his salary cap hit to make this trade this year. You can buy a lot of solid interior lineman with the money they just saved.
Foles is probably an average starting QB. Somewhere around 15 to 20. If they fix the Oline, resign Brit and get an average starter at CB (things they should be able to afford now in FA, they can complete this year. They still have a lot of young and improving players.
I dunno, straight up it makes enough sense. With the extra 2nd rounder next year, it is even better.
Assuming Foles passes his physical, why not resign him for the next 4-5 years at around his current salary. High priced for a backup, but no crazy and extremely low if he starts. Then draft a rookie every year and see what you can develop. Spend the extra salary cap on resigning those you want to keep from the current roster into a second contract. Seems like a decent plan and if Foles does develop into a top 10-15 QB the team is pretty set into the future.
March 1, 2015 at 1:49 pm in reply to: Grayson, Hundley, Petty, Carden etc. … the qbs this year #19305
HramParticipantI’m originally an Oregonian and watched a lot of PAC 12 this year.
No way I would take Huntley. He has the physical skills, but he doesn’t process information very fast. If his first read isn’t there, everything breaks down for him and he is either inaccurate or runs. Not an NFL QB.
Wouldn’t take Mannion. NFL size and arm, but everything is slow with him. He won’t make it with the speed of the NFL game. He just won’t.
Mariota is the real deal, but the Rams have no shot. He needs a year or two in order to get used to taking snaps under center, but no one will out work him. He will put in the time and effort. His reads are quick and decisive (head coach said standing behind Mariota in practice that Mariota get to the 2nd and 3rd reads as fast as the coach). and he looks to throw first (even often when escaping the pocket he keeps his eyes downfield). He’s a safe bet provided he doesn’t get crushed or injured the first year of two
HramParticipantHow the heck did that happen!!??
Peyton Manning was on the other team. Wow.
Cool! 🙂
HramParticipantWhat I said before the draft. One of them would be there at #16. I would draft Patterson before Tavon. I liked them both. Nothing has changed for me.
Yes, yes and yes.
I didn’t like the trade up then and I don’t like it now. Could have had Patterson and kept the draft pick.
HramParticipantWOOHOO!!!
HramParticipantAt this point with those injuries, I think we’d be lucky to win 2 games. The over and under is probably set at 1.
More high pics next year.
If we can go relatively injury free at some point in the next couple of years and get even average QB play, we are going to be really good at some point.

HramParticipantIt really was cool and they seemed to still have fun together. Lots of smiles.
In a way it reminded me of the commercial currently on t.v. where they all want to go back to college. Relive their youth. 🙂
October 18, 2014 at 12:02 am in reply to: Tre Mason: “If Emmitt Smith was a great, Why can’t I be?” #9830
HramParticipantFrom where I was sitting in the stands on Monday night, he looked like a #1 running back. Strong to the hole, good lateral movement, powerful and quick. Good running when he got the ball.
October 16, 2014 at 11:38 pm in reply to: Thots from being at the game. Momentum, heart, coaching #9779
HramParticipantNaw, it was still good.
It was a Rams game and I stayed until the bitter end. Which also means I didn’t have to fight much of a crowd to get out of the building. 🙂
HramParticipanttbux
Warner made an observation—if anyone knows what a QB is doing and not doing it is him. He didn’t bash Davis, but he said Davis does some things well, but doesn’t handle pressure well. The late pick 6 a perfect example of that. They need to practice more on teams blitzing and reading it and how to beat it. It will continue until we beat it routinely.
I noticed that in the Niners game that I attended. Davis simply doesn’t look comfortable in the pocket. He’s excited. If the play is on time and the receiver comes open, he can make the throw. But otherwise he just gets a little excited resulting in a pass thrown too soon or errant. He does look good on rollouts and when he is able to evade the initial rush, start rolling then make an attempt.
Too early to tell on the deeper throws, but I didn’t have any wow moments.

HramParticipantTo answer RFLs original question,
Ummmmmm
No
HramParticipantMariotta is also the consumate team player, a student of the game and, based on reporters quotes of the coaches, the kind of person who the coaches wish would date their daughters. Not exactly Vick in some important aspects.
He doesn’t get rattled. I think he’d do well in any offense. He will need some extra time to adjust to playing under center. He is also not as quick as Vick (escapability) although his straight line speed is pretty fast.
HramParticipantA grave mistake?
Is there any other kind…
HramParticipantI think it is possible there will be 4-5 QBs worth taking in the 1st round next year. They won’t all go in the top 15.
August 24, 2014 at 8:42 pm in reply to: who should start? will they trade for someone? who? qb discussion #4923
HramParticipantMac, Take a look a Mannion from oregon State. Decent pocket passer who helps elevate a team that is consistently in the bottom third of the recruiting wars in the PAC 12. They won’t win 10 or 11 games so he probably won’t go high.
