There is a chance that Stafford may retire. Not saying he will, but there is a chance. I do believe that Aaron Donald retires after the season is over. It might be a few years, that the Rams make the playoffs, if both Donald, & Stafford retire. Also, if both do retire, we may be better off trading players, that can get us, high draft picks, in return, as a complete rebuild will be the way to go. That’s of course, if we have any players, o our roster, that can be worth high draft picks.

Yep, seems like a scenario that could happen and at this point in his career he’s earned it. I would not be upset with him if Stafford took a wait-and-see approach before deciding if he’s going to play next season.

As much as I hate watching this offense right now it hasn’t occurred to me to me angry with McVay and his play calling. However, after reading around different places in the internet, I am wondering if I am cutting him too much slack. Some of the villagers are in the town square and they brought their pitchforks and torches. Perhaps this is justified modern day fan reaction and I am naive, but I have no idea how McVay is supposed to do anything with this grouping. It’s like watching a preseason game. For me it is pointless to get upset about a team playing 2nd stringers as well and backups to the backups backups. I’m not even upset about the lack of rushing attempts.

Anyway, I am not a fan of Wolford as a backup, and while the offense will have other more pressing needs this offseason, I hope that finding a backup QB is one of them. They might even need to find a new starter if Stafford is being held together by duct tape and bubblegum.

I am still happy we won the Super Bowl last year 🙂

Me too! That fact has me a lot less uptight about this season compared to how I felt every year during the Linehan/Spagnuolo/Fisher eras. Or maybe I’m finally growing up.

That was atrocious. Bobby Evans was horrible. I don’t care how logical and well researched the argument is, nobody can convince me that there isn’t guy somewhere on this planet that can play better than Evans.

This loss is on the offense, no doubt. However, the soft coverage by the db’s totally frustrates me. The constant walking up into the Rams end of field is so frustrating to watch. Yet I realize that without a pass rush and guys like Kendrick and Rapp playing, the Rams would probably give up too many deep passes every gamef they played tighter coverage.  I just hate watching the drives unfold with opposing teams picking them apart using all the underneath stuff.

Anyway, this team is not fun to watch. Take my fan card away if you must, but I’m considering not watching them next week.

I don’t live in Minnesota, but the border is only a 45 minute drive from my front door. Haven’t been there since the pandemic started, but we have always been frequent visitors to the North Shore all the way down to the Twin Cities. Such a beautiful state.

It’s just the Niners have owned the Rams over the last several seasons regardless of health or circumstance.

Thats all I’m really saying. Also, thank sweet baby jeebus that Tart dropped Stafford’s pass in the 4th quarter.

My thoughts aren’t really about this game in particular. Already trying to forget it, to be honest. My thoughts are that I am shocked that the Rams beat the Niners in the NFC Championship Game last season. Yeah, yeah, different team, I know. It’s just the Niners have owned the Rams over the last several seasons regardless of health or circumstance. I hate it. I want an off-season that is totally geared toward beating the Niners. Even if the the Rams finish 2-15 next year. Not since the Rams first season back in LA has this team been less fun to watch.

My memory is fading. Hopefully Allen and Edwards can return and play well. Put Havenstein in bubble wrap in the meantime.

Havenstein is fine, so I am a little curious about what you mean by that. In contrast, Edwards may not be coming back this year (consecutive concussions).

It was a bad joke referring to the fact that Havenstein is the only starter on the line yet to be injured this year.

Wonder if they’ll keep Jackson at LT, and on the off chance that it is not his achilles, play Noteboom at guard when he returns from injury.  Even when the offensive line injury woes were plaguing the St Louis Rams between 07 and 13, it was never this bad. What a crazy season.

Skowronek’s contributions are nice to see, Alaric Jackson played well enough at LT. If any in-season trades happen, I hope it is for offensive line help and not a running back. I feel like I am watching a slightly below .500 team.

Overcoming the injuries on the line seems like an impossible ask. Even so, it appears that beyond Kupp there are no weapons on offense.

Yes, I’m aware of the hypocrisy of what I am saying. How can we know that the Rams lack weapons when the play of the offense line is so dreadful? It’s just hunch, I suppose.  I don’t see the return of Van Jefferson as something that will fix things either. I do miss Robert Woods though.

Up to this point, the Rams had been fortunate enough to avoid such an injury plagued season during the McVay era.

I saw that RGIII tweeted that the Rams are misusing Robinson. True or not, it’s been awhile since I’ve felt like the Rams are lacking weapons on offense. The offensive line looked like I thought they would.

Bobby Evans is starting. This worries me.

I believe it will be Jeremiah Kolone, that will end up,starting, not Evans.

I wouldn’t have minded Kolone stepping in at this point.

A couple of next day thoughts. Both Powell and Skowronek have surpassed Atwell as offensive contributors. Skowronek was already there last season,  guess. I know that he has a different role than Atwell would, but after this offseason I was hoping to see Tutu at least be a threat in the long game, or maybe a couple of WR screens. Powell’s contributions versus the Cardinals were what I thought that Atwell could do.  Also, it would be nice if Stafford and Robinson  develop some kind of chemistry because right now there’s not much going in there.

Shouldn’t have been that close but as you said they were dealing with a lot of injuries. It’s weird that this is the same franchise (albeit in name only) that would get destroyed with a relatively healthy secondary in 2016, but was down to 3rd stringers back there today and they didn’t give up a touchdown. The run game took another step forward,  even with the Akers fumble, but I’m still doubtful that it’s going to be something that will define the offense positively this year. I guess it’s difficult to know for sure until the offensive line has had a chance to work together for more than a couple of weeks. Anyway, the depth of this team is something to be pleased with so far, but the Niners are going to be buzzsaw next week. Trent Williams just went down though.

Admittedly, I still have bad memories of the Rams having to play the likes of Larry Turner, Rex Tucker, Matt Willig in his mid/late 30s, as well as many others whose names that I have long forgotten. These guys replaced some pretty average starters. So hopefully McVay’s/Carberry’s Rams won’t be as bad at finding backups on the oline. I agree with you that the results are better at this this stage.

I was relieved when the Rams kept Noteboom this past offseason, but now I am concerned with his play/knee injury. The lack of a run game seems like harbinger of what might be in store for the offense this year. A play that stands out to me happened late in the Falcons game. Akers was able to turn a first down on short yardage despite being met in the backfield by an Atlanta defender. The Rams overloaded the line by bringing in Evans as an extra blocker and the Falcons still had Akers in the backfield. Good play by Akers gave the Rams the first down though.

I too am hopeful that next offseason the Rams go strong at finding help on the offensive line. I still find myself lamenting the decision not to pick Creed Humphrey. Granted I don’t know enough about how Humphrey’s game matches with what McVay is trying to do, but seeing Tutu’s name on the roster will forever make me think of Humphrey, just like I still associate Brian Leonard with the Rams passing on C, Ryan Kalil in the 2007 draft. If the Rams spent all of their resources on offensive linemen and running backs next offseason, I won’t complain …I’m only half joking.

Anyway, the next 3 weeks seem like they could be tough. I am especially dubious about the Rams chances versus the Niners.

An off-season where two key members of the offensive line departed, followed by consecutive weeks of losing two offensive linemen to injury seems like it could be one of those things that you look back on when pinpointing what went wrong.

Hopefully Allen comes back soon and strong.

    The run game was good.

I will have to rewatch the game with an open mind. The run game had some moments and it was a step up from the Bills game for sure, but I didn’t come away thinking that the run game was good vs. Atlanta.

The offensive line held up well all things considered, but these injuries are likely to cause some issues as the season progresses.

Happy for Durant, a great debut.

    … and McCutcheon looked….lucky. I dunno. w v

I think an argument could be made for some luck on those two TD’s. I called them contested catches, but perhaps a better label would be “catches that were made in traffic,” because while in both instances the DB’s were right there, it almost looked like they were banging in to each other more than they were banging into McCutcheon. Anyway, I still liked his effort, especially when take in context with the positive TC reports. I wonder if this will come down to a decision between McCutcheon and Jacob Harris for a final roster spot?

I am cautiously optimistic about McCutcheon. The TC reports have all been good and he followed that up with a strong showing last night. IIRC, the knocks against him in the draft reports were a lack of speed and subpar route running (someone feel free to correct me on that if I’m remembering that wrong). Perhaps a guy can make the NFL if he is lacking in one of those areas, but it seems unlikely if he is lacking in both.  I guess that route running can be coached up, but obviously speed is a different story. What made McCutcheon’s night so impressive for me were the two TD’s. Both came in very different circumstances, but both were contested catches. If he can do that consistently versus starting calibre NFL db’s he could carve out a role as receiver in the league and the develop as a route runner along the way.

    On a kinda related note…

For years I had voted for whoever the Green Party candidate in my riding was, in both provincial and federal elections. I always knew that they didn’t have a hope in hell of winning but I didn’t care, it was a matter of principle to me. They seemed to be fighting for more of the things that I believed in than the other parties. I no longer vote Green and I now vote strategically against whoever the conservative candidate happens to be. With the lack of empathy and outright cruelness that I see  from both the federal and provincial Conservative Parties up here, it just seems too risky to do anything other than to vote strategically in order to keep them out. I hate that I’ve adopted this way of thinking, but after watching the tactics of the right down there I am seeing the same things starting to happen in Canada.

Here’s a video about buying a gun in Canada.  This is from 2016, so some of our regulations have likely changed, I’m certainly no expert on gun ownership in Canada. There is often talk of more regulations being needed or regulations needing to be  altered or relaxed depending on who is in charge federally. Anyway, AR-15s are not banned up here and  it’s not like we never have mass shootings up here, but it certainly doesn’t seem to be the issue that it is down there. I find it frustrating to hear American conservatives say that regulating gun ownership won’t make a difference and it’s about mental health, but access to mental health services seem to be extremely limited in many places in America. Anyway, I am no expert on any of this. It just hurts to keep seeing it happen and then  listen to how conservatives respond.
