    Lots of pleasant surprises.

2 100 yard receivers, solid OL pass protection, defense tightened up in 2nd half

    Great start

Pleasantly surprised would be an understatement for me, so I’d say that I’m ecstatically shocked. Love Nakua and any contributions from Atwell are a bonus. I thought the running game was mostly underwhelming for most of the game, but it was great inside the 5. For such a young defense to only give up 13 points and shutdown Seattle in the 2nd half was what really shocked me. Hope that Witherspoon is ok. Special teams was terrible in preseason and not much better today. But man, any time the Rams beat Seattle is a great day. Congratulations to us all.

The moment of Jefferson’s drop was like a gut punch. He did end up having a couple of important catches in the game so he wasn’t a total disaster, but he doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

As I said in the ‘hopes and dreams’ thread, I have high expectations for this team and apparently those expectations have been vindicated. As I implied, anything less than a Super Bowl championship for the Rams will be an underachievement.

I knew when I posted it that that position would be highly controversial, but I’ve never been one to latch my shutters in the face of a storm.

Now, on to SF and expose them for being the frauds that they are.

    I like 1-0 a lot more than 0-1.

    I like the physical defense.

I only saw the highlights, so have no idea about the flow of the game. But the score and the stats at least tell me the Rams were really good in protecting Stafford, and it looks like they have the needed receiver depth to weather the Kuppless storm.

Also noticed that Tutu looks bigger, as does Kyren Williams. They’ve added good weight, and it’s helped their game.

As others have already said, it’s just the first game, but this is obviously an excellent start. Makes my earlier doom and gloom comments seem, well, too doomy and gloomy.

If they beat the Niners next week — arguably the best team in the NFC going into the season — the Rams may well be for real. At the very least, a win would really help the Rams believe in themselves, and that’s essential for a young team.

obviously way too early to draw conclusions, but puka looked so at ease in the second half of the game. i think the first half was a little shaky but the second half he looked like a veteran out there. if he can keep this up and stay healthy. and with his personality. he could quickly become a fan favorite. and he’s so physical. hard to bring down. makes me worry a little if he starts to get banged up.

next week will be a huge test against the niners and i’m sure he’ll have his downs but what a way to start your career.

hopefully kupp isn’t out more than four weeks and the rams should have two good receivers. a little disappointed in van jefferson. tutu looked solid though. higbee was solid.

i didn’t really get to watch avila but i don’t think stafford got sacked once. again let’s see how this team does against the niners but they did better than i thought they would today.

Pakua Nuka was the biggest surprise to me. He didn’t just have a big day; he showed me that he is a special player along the lines of Kupp. Excellent footwork, taking the right angles, good hands, elusiveness after the catch, and tough to bring down. Played with energy and enthusiasm. I don’t think that was a fluke. This guy is a real player, and another draft steal. He looked a little lost on blocking a couple of times, but it’s hard to tell in real time, and I’m not a tape guy. But he went a long way in easing my concerns about the WR position. I sure hope to see him paired with Kupp ASAP. That is a WR tandem I wanna watch.

Kendrick looked bad a couple of times, but I’m not ready to demote him. I dunno. I saw Jalen Ramsey get embarrassed more than a handful of times, and he’s one of the best. Those are grown-ass receivers out there that play in the big leagues. It’s gonna happen. So I dunno.

The OL did its job. It will certainly get run through a crucible next week, so there’s a big test coming up, but I don’t know how you could expect a better performance than zero sacks. OL continuity is obviously the key to keeping Stafford healthy, so yesterday was a good sign.

Atwell got open and made some plays. Nice to see. I don’t know what it means, though. He might end up being a Hakim type of guy. Not a steady, every down kind of player, but good for some explosive plays now and then, and that’s a guy worth having. Van Jefferson is still a big, solid guy, and I think that terrible drop yesterday is not characteristic of him, but he isn’t making a case for another contract with this team. Lots of football left, obviously.

The defense did some bending in the first half, but when you give up scores on the first four drives, and that totals 13 points, well…that damage didn’t sink the ship. The second half will stick in the craw of Seahawks fans for a long time. Seattle is just sick about that game, and that gets a 10/10 on the Hilarity Scale. They had high, high hopes going into this season only to have the Rams – the RAMS – come into Seattle and spill their guts out like a Pike Place fishmonger.

But Week One belonged to Paco Nunchucks.

Still in shock and awe. It is one game of a tough early stretch of games. especially we have the 9ers coming up next week. Including playing the Bengals who were in the AFC title game last year, along with playing the Eagles, who were in the Super Bowl. The Eagles, by most, say they are going back to the Super Bowl, automatically.

I take that to heart because I went off on Kendrick during the chat because of the TD where he got fooled out of his socks, but, there are all sorts of indications that other than that he played a decent game.
