In regard to the trade deadline [10/31], the Rams appear to be standing pat based on multiple conversations around the league per @DMRussini

As @JourdanRodrigue has stated in the past, the Rams are not in the same position/philosophy as in years past. Have they done due diligence on a player(s)? Sure. I don’t see them parting ways with future resources (picks/future capital). That sexy edge will arrive next year.

Thanks, and wrote Thurs I didn’t get the sense they’d be active which seems to cooperate w what my colleagues also hearing

In background conversations with team and league sources, I am not getting the sense that the Rams will be very active next week — barring some sort of late, out-of-the-blue proposition from another team….Personally, I operate in “never say never” mode at the trade deadline with this particular front office … just in case … though I do believe they’d like to stay disciplined in 2023 with eyes on 2024-25.

Don’t be shocked, if we become sellers. If some team gives us some type of deal that will blow their minds for AD, they may take it. Not saying a trade will happen, but it would be a trade to blow their minds.

Reported Thursday I wasn’t getting a sense from league and team sources that Rams would move either way at deadline, w/ eyes on 24-25. They already weren’t moving Stafford, Kupp or Donald (latter also has a no-trade clause). They did get some calls on a couple others.

9ers all-in like the Rams were two years ago, although they gave up a lot less for Young than the Rams did for Miller. A lot less.

he’s younger than miller was when the rams traded for him, but his career has not been nearly as impressive.  at least not yet.  he is supposedly having the best year of his career to date.

Off the top of me head: Von Miller was 33 when the Rams traded for him. Freakish athlete who played up to his athleticism and beyond. Game changer, to say the least. Chase Young? Bigger, better athlete than Miller, but injuries have suppressed his career. His upside is greater than Miller’s, even if we don’t include his age (24). I hate to say it, but the 49ers got a very likely “steal” of major proportions. A healthy Young, matched up with Bosa? Sheesh.

Seattle got better, too, with Leonard Williams.

Rams can’t rely on superior coaching — which I think they have. They just can’t compete athletically via so many late rounders and UDFAs. They’re gonna have to find another way.

On Young. Is he a rental? He’s a FA in 24. Can they sign him? 9ers have no cap space in 2025. As it stands right now their 2025 combined cap hit for Williams, Armstead, Kittle, Warner, and Samuel is appx. 135 M.

In terms of the Rams competing with a lot of good low draft picks…as we know, the plan in 23 was to instigate then endure this year’s big dead money hit, and then use cap space and picks to add to a more seasoned team in 24.

The way you put it, it sounds like you think their plan is to do 23 forever. But this year was always a set-up year, they decided that early last off-season.

So starting next year they add high draft picks and FA money to their (by then) more seasoned roster of very good low-round draft picks (Fuller, Jones, Nacua, Kupp, the TEs, a nice stable of solid RBs…with Young and Turner developing).

I think they’re competive in 23 as long as Stafford is healthy, and are set up to take a leap forward in 24.

yeah. i have doubts about whether the niners can afford young beyond this season.

i think the rams are in good shape. now is not the time to be making a trade like that.

Not for the Rams. No, zn and I see the Rams situation exactly the same way. They were reloading this year, and getting a rental like Young was never considered inside HQ. They will be active this off-season.

For the 9ers, it is absolutely the right play, even if they can’t resign Young. And they probably can’t.

But they are putting together a shitload of pressure on the DL, and it’s a great move for them. Hopefully, it doesn’t pan out, but it’s a smart, bold move for them.

definitely hope it’s a big fail for the niners.
