znModeratorSource: Pro Bowl QB Has Massive Interest in Joining the Ramshttps://t.co/nv6vgA7dil

from https://www.si.com/nfl/rams/onsi/los-angeles-source-pro-bowl-qb-massive-interest-joining
A league source tells Los Angeles Rams On SI that there is a clear answer for whom the Rams should sign to back up Stafford, while ushering in a new era that doesn’t require a long-term commitment from either party.
The source states that quarterback Kirk Cousins may be interested in playing for the Rams, and if there’s an expectation that he’ll be Stafford’s successor, the source believes Cousins is willing to play on the league minimum just to be in the building.
“Kirk has made more money than God,” stated the source. “This guy wants championships so bad, to be with tht organization, that general manager [Les Snead], and this head coach [Sean McVay], and the talent assembled around them. Not only for next year, someone with the ability of Kirk to back up a QB like Matt [Stafford] for a season that is championship or bust.”
The source also stated a big reason the Rams would be interested is that expectations do not lower if Cousins has to enter the game.
For a season that is all in, a looming Stafford injury should not automatically mean bust, especially for a quarterback like Stafford who had a back issue that kept him out of training camp and preseason, forcing Rams head coach Sean McVay to ponder placing Stafford on injured reserve for the first four games of 2025.
…
Cousins was Sean McVay’s first real QB1 in Washington, he was excellent in the McVay offense under Kevin O’Connell with Minnesota, and due to his knowledge of the offense, both Justin Jefferson and Drake London had massive campaigns with him under center.
Cousins ran a McVay-style offense with former Rams assistant Zac Robinson in Atlanta. On top of all that, depending on the numbers, Cousins’ financial status could play a major factor in retaining core pieces of the roster, while setting up a bridge to the Rams’ next QB1 as Cousins is set to turn 38 years old in August.

wvParticipantWell, i guess that was meant for Jimmy G.
Cousins has made four pro-bowls, according to A.I. All four times as a replacement. Last time was 2022.

znModeratorGaroppolo unsigned, Bennett untested
Jimmy Garoppolo, the Rams’ backup for the past two seasons, remains a free agent, and the market for veteran quarterbacks is shrinking. Stetson Bennett is currently the only backup on the roster, but he has limited NFL experience since being drafted in 2023. The Rams appear in no rush to sign Garoppolo or another veteran, raising questions about whether they trust Bennett or have another plan in mind. ClutchPoints + 2
Cousins linked to Rams amid QB gap
With Matthew Stafford entering the final year of his contract, the Los Angeles Rams still lack a proven backup quarterback. Kirk Cousins has reportedly expressed strong interest in joining the team, even at a league-minimum salary, to chase a championship and potentially succeed Stafford. The Rams’ decision could shape both their 2026 title hopes and their long-term quarterback strategy.

Yes, they do.
Cousins may be able to get the job done, but he is not Matthew Stafford.

znModeratorRams On Verge Of Moving On From Jimmy Garoppolo
The Los Angeles Rams are letting things play out with their backup quarterbackBrock Vierra
https://www.si.com/nfl/rams/onsi/los-angeles-verge-moving-from-jimmy-garoppolo
WOODLAND HILLS, Ca. The Los Angeles Rams have spent two seasons with Jimmy Garoppolo serving in a backup role, and while it appeared that Garoppolo and the Rams were set to run it back for a third season, the situation has since changed. Here’s everything you need to know.
Earlier this offseason, Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked about Garoppolo and if they wanted him to back up Stafford for a third season.
“Absolutely,” stated McVay. “I love Jimmy. I would absolutely want him back. I did see those reports too on [Cardinals Head Coach] Mike [LaFleur] trying to steal our guy, but no Jimmy’s a really good player and so we would love him back. I’m sure he’ll have multiple opportunities and then we’ll see where we’re at. He’s been tremendous for the last couple of years. We’ve loved everything he’s about.”
‘You guys know how I feel about him when we’ve spoken about him and we would love him back. I’m also not naive to the fact that he’ll probably have a lot of opportunities and if those are things that he wants to pursue that give him a chance to play, I would understand that.”
Negotiations with the Arizona Cardinals fell apart during free agency. It’s unknown if a second round of talks are currently underway.
At the NFL Owners Meeting, McVay spoke about where the Rams currently stand in terms of negotiations with Garoppolo.
“Hey, I’d love to have Jimmy Garoppolo back with us,” stated McVay. “That’s a big deal for us. He’s earned the right to be able to take his time and do whatever he wants. Is there an opportunity to explore, if it’s not Jimmy, (like) Kirk Cousins? Of course. I’d love to be able to be able to see what that looks like. So those are two guys we’ve talked about.”
McVay was then asked if he expects Garoppolo to be back next season.
“I genuinely don’t know that,” stated McVay. “I don’t know that. I would say, at this point, when there hasn’t been a decision, it feels less likely than likely, but I don’t want to rule that out. And so that’s where you say hey, he’s earned the right to be able to take his time and move forward accordingly in whatever that next chapter is for him in football.”
While Garoppolo has earned that right, he’s on a tight timeline. With McVay stating it’s likely he doesn’t return, Kirk Cousins seems to be a strong option moving forward.

Kirk Cousins is signing with the Raiders, per @MikeMcCartney7.Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva
The Rams showed very real interest in Kirk Cousins this week, but he’s not coming to LA.Lindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
Makes sense after Klint Kubiak just said at the owners meetings that he’d prefer a rookie QB to learn behind a seasoned veteran.Mike Garafolo@MikeGarafolo
#Raiders HC Klint Kubiak said the other day he would prefer a rookie QB to learn from a veteran before starting. With Kirk Cousins in the fold, Vegas now has that luxury for Fernando Mendoza.April 2, 2026 at 10:58 am #163144

“On the other hand, he would consider signing with the worst team in the league.”

Raiders HC Klint Kubiak coached Kirk Cousins for three seasons in Minnesota. Now they reunite in Las Vegas.Comp update: Kirk Cousins will sign a five-year, $172 million deal with the Raiders that in reality is a one-year, fully-guaranteed $20 million deal that also contains a club option for two years at $80M.
The Falcons will pay Cousins $8.7 million this season, the Raiders another $1.3 million and Las Vegas also agreed to pay its new QB a fully-guaranteed $10 million roster bonus on the third day of the 2027 new league year.
And maybe most notably, it also sets another new mark: this will be the 11th straight NFL season in which Cousins’ contract will be fully guaranteed.
Field Yates@FieldYates
When accounting for the $20M fully guaranteed money Kirk Cousins will now make, he will soon pass Tom Brady for the second-most money made by a player in NFL history. The man is a first ballot Hall of Famer in the business of the NFL 💰💰💰

znModeratorWould really like to have Jimmy G back for one more year. Joe Flacco is turning 42 this year and is making $6M on a 1-year deal.
This QB class makes me nervous, and last thing we’d want to see the Rams do is trade back and use their first pick on a QB because of this. https://t.co/ZaQZLdwpqi

ZooeyModeratorJimmy G won’t retire if the Rams give him a few million dollars to carry a clipboard. Sure, he’s rich, but he can still make easy money, and maybe he’ll even play a few games.
