    Washington

They’re the #32 ranked D, in yards and points. If we’re focused, we should score plenty. Howell slings it all around. He’s not afraid to put into tight spots but he also has 8 picks in the last 7 games. The only game that he didn’t throw a pick was a loss to Seattle. And we’re averaging 29 per game with Stafford after the bye.

Rams defense needs to play well too but they’ve done pretty well. Except for Baltimore….and they’re arguably pretty good….the D allowed 16 PPG after the bye (16, 14, 19) and prior to the bye, in the GB game, it was 13 before they scored with 3 minutes and change left, to make it 20-3 (Rypien). That’s still just 17 PPG. If Stafford played vs Green Bay like he’s done after the bye, we win that game too. But the defense needs to do better. At least a lot better than they did in Baltimore (31 pts).

I hope not.   I wonder if a letdown is more likely after a hard-fought, emotional loss, or a hard-fought, emotional victory?

    Washington

Defense: 32nd in yards, 32nd in points, 32nd in YPA passing, 22nd in YPA rushing, 19th in sack %

Offense: 16th in yards, 23rd in points, 25th in YPA passing, 6th in YPA rushing

Which defenses are 1st and 2nd in sack percentage btw? Cleveland and Baltimore, respectively. Against the Rams, Baltimore had 10 pressures and Cleveland had 5. Rams will have all day to throw on Washington, and will be able to run well on top of it.

Is there such a thing as a letdown near the end of the season when a team is in the playoff hunt and every game counts?

    Rams are 6.5 point favorites.

We know whats sposed ta happen.

Season is on the line.  For all intents-and-purposes its a playoff game.

One would ‘think’ they’d be motivated.

7-7 sounds a LOT better than 6-8, dont it.

The fun thing about this team, as we’ve all noticed is the physical-running game, paired up with the usual Stafford/McV passing game.    Itz got two-dimensionality.   It aint the GSOT, but its evolving into somethin damn-solid.

So everybody agrees that the Rams should win this game handily, but nobody actually knows the outcome for certain.

    Sounds about right.

it’s kinda like mcvay’s first season with gurley.  i just don’t see this team letting down.

donald, stafford, kupp, kyren, puka…  i don’t see these guys letting this team take their foot off the pedal.  but who knows?  it’s a young team.  so i suppose it could happen.

i don’t know.  i think it is possible.  especially with a young team.  maybe letdown is the wrong word?  i’m sure they’ll be motivated.  but there’s probably some level of emotional maturity involved in being in such a tight race this late in the season?  physical endurance?  these guys are young.  not all of them are used to still playing high intensity football past 13 games.  they’ve exerted a lot of energy to get to this point.  when you are that physically and mentally exhausted and you haven’t played this much competitive football for as many games as they have, mistakes can start to creep in.  concentration can waver i would assume.  i don’t know.  i’ve never been in the situation these guys are in.  should be fun to watch.

Found this bit interesting from an article at CBS ranking the chances of teams now with losing records making the playoffs.

The #32 defense in the league shouldn’t be able to outperform the Browns or Ravens defenses. The Rams should put up over 30 points, and the Redskins shouldn’t score over 20. But, you know, football.

I don’t know, man. What is the Rams historical record against teams named after a military rank?

the rams are currently -6.5 vegas home favorites vs washington.

since mcvay has been hc, the rams are 19-5 when -6.5 or greater home faves, and 7-1 since stafford has been in horns.

I was reading around a bit, about Washington.  They may be the worst team in the NFL.  Just a mess.   Rookie QB, disappointing WRs.  Defense has been top-ten in the past, but now they are a mess.  2 and 9 over the last 11 games.

Tone deaf choice of replacement names from Washington ownership. Someone in that organization must have read Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale, or have seen the Hulu adaptation.

The name that was bandied about that I liked best was ‘Red Tails’ – the name of a squadron of P51 Mustangs flown by the Tuskegee airmen.

I like the Rams. A simple, forceful name derived from military history, referring to a siege weapon used to assault fortifications, a fitting description of a football team.

Sometimes, as shown in the pic, rams would be carved with the images of goat’s heads.
