I see a lot of tackles in that group…hmmm

I didn’t see any centers and in the posted video McV mentioned Barnes by name….seems like I have another year of griping about him ahead of me.

Edit…I missed Fuller but I was expecting/hoping to see Elfein i guess.

i like elfein too. i was also pleased to see that he measured at 6’3″ 300 pounds. i was actually expecting him to be smaller. i just don’t know that they can get him with the limited number of draft picks they have.

I think Elf will still be there early 2nd. I don’t think it matters, after watching the McV interview at the combine and seeing that list of invitations for a meet and greet….I get the feeling they are gonna roll with Barnes and bring in at least a tackle maybe a guard as well.

It also looks like they are gonna search the wr’s pretty hard as well.

I’m also pretty confident they add DB help.

Thanks for posting this list, I’m always interested in who the team wants to talk with…I know they purposely mislead at times, but they don’t pick till round 2 so I don’t see any misdirection going on.

It is always hard to assume that the Rams have on that list, there will be other things like combines, pro days, game films, etc, from others that is not on the list that could get drafted, but expect a good percentage from the list to get picked though.

Would not mind if Jordan Morgan of The Kutztown University some how ends up in horns. Can never go against a Golden Bear.

I have heard him mentioned a couple of times by the talking heads. Caught my attention since reading your posts and, dare I say, cheerleading (no offense intended)

the more i read and after this first round of workouts, i’m becoming more convinced that this is an extremely weak offensive class.

i was thinking oline in the second round, and while it’s urgent that they fix the offense, i’m now thinking they should just draft defense. it’s so deep in corners and defensive line, they should just go with strength and try to develop what they currently have on the roster.

i got this feeling that defense is gonna blow this combine out of the water.

drafting on need is going to kill this team.

my hope is that running backs go early. and then of course qbs get over drafted. that’ll allow some defensive backs and defensive linemen to fall lower than they should.

I’ve always been a believer in drafting the best available…but need always has to be factored in, IMO.

There will be some good O-linemen available in the 2nd round, but usually to get your starting LT, and it appears Tackle is their target, you need to pick round 1 otherwise he’s a guy that will help later rather than right away.

That’s kinda why I think they are gonna be active in FA and Barnes is gonna be the Center again (ugh) and why Kendricks just might be around (double ugh)

if that player has a chance to be exceptional, then go for it. but i don’t see any linemen available in the second round with the chance to be exceptional. the offensive line is young. maybe the coaching staff can develop them.

there’s gonna be guys on defense available who could be great players.

That’s where the team grades come in to play.

Personally, I think Elfein at 37 is worth the pick…but then again, I’m a known guy that wants an upgrade at center. I also think he’s gonna be sittin there when they pick…fingers crossed on my part (slim chance)

I also love this years DB crop and I kinda feel the same way as Fisher…draft at least 1 DB every draft…but the depth could allow them to take one later.

I think this year FA and the draft is gonna be O dominated because McV is an O guy and that is the biggest area of need.

Just thinking out loud. Yes some of the guys on hand can step up…they were after all young…but there are actually a lot of ways to add linemen. I remember the Vermeil OLs and how he used every acquisition method available, all at the same time, to build a new line.

There are any number of ways to add linemen, and like Vermeil this bunch could easily use them all. One factor is that sometimes teams cut young linemen who are not that far off from developing. There are budget free agent types who step up (happens every year). And that’s without even mentioning high market free agency. They could draft some but I agree that the 2nd round might not be the place.

Remember, in 98/99, they used some of those methods to get Gruttadauria, McCollum, and Nutten.

Often the cuts, presumed cast-offs, and low budget free agents are guys the new coaches know from previous teams. So if you add up Olson, LaFleur, McVay, and Kromer, that’s 4 different teams where they might know the odd player or two who is the type who can drift between teams then stabilize in a new place.

The 4 teams are Washington, Jacksonville, Buffalo, and Atlanta. Each of those teams has at least 10 linemen, so there’s a chance for one or two to get cut loose when maybe they have some value. 2 of those teams have new head coaches, and sometimes with changing systems, guys can fall between the cracks.

For example, if you add up the regular roster, injured reserve, and the practice squad, Washington has 13 OL at this point.

    ..

i don’t have a problem acquiring more offensive linemen. just not in the second round. not even the third round.

just not worth it. not when you can get a cornerback which would be much better value for your pick. or a defensive lineman. and there will be plenty there.

Hey i.r. … I wasn’t disagreeing with you, I was more in “agree and then add more by changing the topic somewhat” mode.

I didn’t think you were against acquiring linemen the Vermeil way.

Jordan Morgan is going to be plugged in at Guard. Morgan is considered too short to play LT in the NFL, but will probably be a LG in the NFL though. Still, can never go wrong grabbing a kid from The Kutztown University.
