Dodger Dogs now have an asterisk just like last year’s 43 win season…..

No Vinnie, no Farmer Johns.. I heard that the new hot dogs taste like shit.

but you can still get a Farmer John at an LA Soccer match……

Farmer John Will No Longer Supply Hot Dogs for Famous ‘Dodger Dogs’
Dodger Dogs are still available at the stadium, but they are no longer Farmer John dogs.

Perhaps as beloved as the team itself, Dodger Dogs have long been as much a part of a visit to Dodger Stadium as hits, strikeouts and the seventh-inning stretch.
But the legendary food isn’t quite the same anymore, with Farmer John no longer supplying the trademark dogs.
“Farmer John had a long-standing and valued relationship with the Dodgers,” Farmer John parent company Smithfield Foods said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times. “After the 2019 season, Farmer John made the difficult business decision not to renew its contract with the Dodgers. Unfortunately, through the latest contract negotiations, we were unable to come to an agreement that was beneficial for both parties.”
Dodger Dogs are still available at the stadium, but they are no longer Farmer John dogs.
The team hasn’t said who the new supplier is. Team president Stan Kasten told The Times an announcement is coming soon, following an “elaborate process” of taste-testing to ensure comparable flavor.
“This was as close as they could imagine to what people were used to,” Kasten said. “It’s a Dodger Dog through and through.”

In the meantime, Farmer John purists may want to wander over to a Los Angeles Football Club match. The company last week announced the second year of its sponsorship agreement with the soccer club.

I wonder how many times in his career Vin Scully mentioned Farmer Johns.

I can still hear it spoken with that old Vinny lilt.

I used to take my dad’s transistor radio into the backyard in the evenings to listen to games (I could only pick up the LA station at night, and in the deep summer, I’d always miss the first 2 or 3 innings because of that). We didn’t have Farmer John hot dogs in Chico when I was a kid. I didn’t ever eat one until I went to a game in Dodgers stadium.

    Hey, look!

Here’s a picture of a QB the Detroit Lions dumped standing next to the greatest pitcher since Sandy Koufax.

I grew up on the East Coast, but when it seemed time to choose my favorite sports teams (age 9), it turned out they were all West Coast teams. A fluke of sorts. One of them, the Giants, originated in NYC, of course, and my fandom started primarily because of a player who started there, not in San Fran:

Willie Mays. I can’t even imagine why anyone would root against him. :>)

It was Mays, Marichal, and McCovey, plus that cool uni that did it for me. Have been a loyal SF Giants fan for well over 50 years. Always saw the Dodgers as the bad guys in that rivalry, including its NYC days. I still do.

Chose the Lakers cuz of West and Baylor, then along came Wilt. Chose the Rams cuz of Deacon, Merlin and Gabe. Never wavered thru more than five decades, but have been damn pissed off at my teams now and then.

So, for me, I’m not loyal to LA per se. But two out of three favorite teams call that city their home now.

San Fran shouldn’t be doing as well as they are this year in baseball. They really don’t have the roster to compete against even the best teams in their own division, but they’re sitting on top.

    Hope they can sustain it.

Same here Zooey… on clear summer evenings we’d pick up KFI Los Angeles to hear Vinny in Santa Clara… .

My trips to Dodger stadium always included a Dodger dog.

In addition about 10 years ago I picked up 2 boxes of Dodger Dogs at my local Costco in San Jose. I’m glad that I kept the empty box as a souvenir….

Farmer John always beat Harry M Stevens (old food provider at Candlestick)…. no contest.

KFI was great because that station is a flamethrower for distance. When the Dodgers moved to KABC, I had to wait until it was completely dark to pick up the signal, and even then, it could be spotty. I don’t know where the Dodgers broadcast now because…technology.

KFI used to have a couple of nitwits on the station who did a bit called “Groaners” or something, and they invited audience submissions for what was basically a pun contest. When I was about 9 or 10 years old, I made up some stupid joke about Roman Gabriel and Bernie Casey and they repeated it on air, and sent me some 8″ balloon man that was shaped like a bowling pin, and it came with a notched piece of cardboard cut to resemble clown feet that I could pinch the balloon with while holding it upright. I was elated.

I don’t remember the build-up, but the punchline was Roman Gabriel saying, “Hey Bernie. There’s your case…see?”

I got a balloon for that. And the older I get, the less I feel it deserved anything other than a quick descent into the wastebasket. But there ya go. Nobody in the entire Los Angeles basin could produce anything better that week, I guess.

Well, as a Dodgers fan, I hated Marichal for the Roseboro thing that happened before I was old enough to know anything. And McCovey because he was on the Giants.

But…Mays. Willie Mays was different. He was Superman. I didn’t wish him well, exactly, but he was one of those guys on the enemy team that transcended the uniform. Nobody hated Willie Mays. Not possible, I don’t think. But I am haunted by a Willie Mays memory to this day. I remember when Willie Mays came back to play in Candlestick at the end of his career. He was with the Mets. I was at a Sunday afternoon game, and I remember Mays was a baserunner, and he rounded 3rd and just tripped and did a face plant. It was one of the least athletic things I ever saw a professional athlete do. The great Willie Mays just eating turf for no damn reason. It made me so sad. It kills me to watch great players hang on to play a couple years too long.

That is a sad image. I got to see him in NYC as a Met. Hated that he hung on that long, too, and obviously wanted to see him retire as a Giant.

Had forgotten about Marichal and Roseboro. Reminds me now of the Myles Garrett incident, in a way.

Am I misrembering that Mantle played too long as well? Without searching on the Internet, didn’t that take him under .300 for lifetime average?
