Rams Waive WR Pharoh Cooper
Myles Simmons
The Rams have made a roster move on Tuesday, cutting wide receiver Pharoh Cooper.
Cooper was a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. He was a key member of the Rams’ special teams unit in 2017, becoming an All-Pro both as a kick and punt returner. Having led the league in kick return average at 27.4 and gaining 12.5 yards per punt return, Cooper was also named to his first Pro Bowl.
In his third season, Cooper was expected to once again be Los Angeles’ primary returner. But Cooper suffered an ankle injury that required surgery in the season-opening victory over the Raiders. Cooper went on injured reserve, coming off in Week 11 for the matchup against Kansas City. Since then, he’s returned only kicks for L.A., with returner JoJo Natson continuing to return punts.
In Los Angeles’ last four games, Cooper has averaged 20.2 yards per kick return.
For much of the season, L.A. utilized safety Blake Countess as a kick returner. He carries a 24.6-yard return average through eight games performing the duty this season.
The Rams did not immediately announce a corresponding roster move, and currently have 52 players on their active roster.
