Bill Polian not high on Rams
Bill’s a guy I respect and sit up & pay attention when he talks even when I don’t like his answers.
He said on Sirius;
McVay may be the best thing the Rams have going for them. Great bloodlines. Dad was as good a man as the NFL has ever employed, not a HOF coach but top notch exec in Walsh era. Sean “has a chance to succeed.”
OL is in flux with no proven long term answers. Mentioned Whitworth being in year 12, called Saffold average, has no idea what Havenstein is, Sullivan solid but older vet… said “if you can’t block’em you can’t do much of anything on offense..”
No elite playmakers at wr. Said Tavon is “ok” but “certainly not on par with a Beckham for example..” didn’t mention any other wr by name.
Said he was not one who was jumping up and down thinking Goff was going to be a star and must go 1 overall but said those calling him a bust right now are no more right than those saying they know he’s a can’t miss talent. He said when he saw him up close last year he liked his arm talent and stature but “he should never have played..he had no clue..and I don’t think Jeff had any intention of playing him until…” (he didn’t finish that thought..) He said he can make all the needed throws “but beyond that no one knows how he’s going to turn out..”
Said Gurley was a major disappointment. “He’s a guy who needs a FB to be a down hill runner.” Interestingly enough he said; “I think Gurley will have a rebound year..”
Didn’t comment on the defense (he was answering a call from a Ram fan in Canada who wanted to know what they had to improve on to take the next step).
He said “I can’t speak to those who say the O was bad because of (Fisher). I didn’t see (Walsh’s 49er offense) but it’s hard when you can’t block.
Finished by saying “they’ve missed too much on high picks…Robinson was a huge miss, the type that sets you back for years…”
