Blue and Gold
If there are plays there, and they are not made, to me, it’s not on the coach, it’s on the players. Having coached, you can coach people well and one breakdown in 11 can cost you.
So, in looking at this without agenda, I say it’s not all on coaches, it’s also on players who have been coached and given oppottunites to succeed and then don;t get it done. Some might want me to say it’s the head coach or coaching . . .but it’s also the players. McCleod slips when he should have made tackle on the first long one today . . .but, he also took wrong angle, I think, and then corrected then slipped . . . his poor angles cost us in Skins game, too. Is that coaching? Is that on McCleod? McCleod’s hurt us at times, need someone with more height, ball skills and range.
I am not letting coaches off hook, but players bear some of this responsibility for stupid stuff. Yes, lack of dscipline is part on coaching but once a player is in the NFL for a year or two he has to have professional pride, discipline is something from within.
Look at today, giving up 2 short passes for TDs. Is that coaching? Or players screwing the pooch?
Rams are an athletic team, not a super smart team. They chose athleticism over smarts in their drafts and trades and free agent signings, then yeah, they do, in general. Although Aaron Donald is a high football IQ guy, I think McDonald is. AO? Not sure, likely not. Barron? I don’t know. JJ? he;s smart, but does bad things he KNOWS better. G-Rob, I dunno, Hav? Smart guy. Quick? Low football IQ, Austin, same, but maybe getting better.
Foles was good in 2 games and a good manager in two others and those are the 4 wins. He’s not been good in most of the others, but the issue is it is getting eorse, not better, the trend chart is down. He just wasn’t close to the strike zone today. Foles just does not make quick enough decisions at times. And is not fluid when he does have to move in pocket. And today, he was high 4-5 times and threw a couple of worm-burners, too.
Foles was high for some reason. Foles is hard to figure because he’s always had an odd delivery, cannot compare Kent Tekulve to Tom Seaver . . .they are just different. Foles has his own form. I don’;t know why he was high a lot today . . . he just was. To me, this game, from what I have seen was worse than the 4 pick game.
Foles delivered 2-3 strikes from the no-huddle…There were a handful of times where Foles did very well and we dropped it, or there was a penalty. Brown had one Robinson 3
Foles is not trash. And it;s true he’s struggled last 2 weeks, especially yesterday . . . but it is also true that the Rams oline has been an issue for a long time, I can only remember 2010 and 2012 (2nd half) as being good. And even though these WRs we have are high picks, Britt a former #1, a Tavon a #1, Bailey a 4th, Quick a 2nd, they are all playing the best football they have in the NFL (Tavon, Bailey, and Quick anyway) they are still not a super group . . .it’s been hard on Nick
However, something was off yesterday for Foles, he’s never been that scattershot, at least in the NFL, high too often and short a few times . .
Quick had quite a few snaps from the slot, which is not where we’ve seen him in the past, at least not often.
Quinn was used on 3rd downs, was limping. Quinn shouldn’t have been playing, he was limping around. Nowhere near healthy enough to make impact. Eugene Sims lost contain and allowed Cutler a long gainer . . .don’t think Quinn would have allowed it if he’s healthy. Quinn did draw a holding call, but we got a sack anyway on the play by Donald
Hav was so-so, I am watching the run blocking now . . . Hav went out late in game, but I am in beginning of 3rd Q and I’d say Hav gets a C or C- or so.
Refs. Long mugs Hayes then throws his hands up, no call. Robinson did similar thing and got called.

Deadpool — could the Rams offense get even worse?I have been giving this some thought this morning and just got a chance to look at some stats.
The Rams are averaging 19 per game and I have a feeling they won’t average 15 the rest of the way.
Lets start with what they have done to date:
34 against Seattle – 7 of those from TAs punt return, and another 7 when Cam’s replacement fell and gave a gift TD to Kendricks. I know, you take’em all. But it was Cigs and Foles first game, so they had no tape against them.
10 against Wash. – A total disaster.
6 against Pitt. – See: Redskins, Washington
24 against Arizona – 7 of those came on a game opening kick return fumble @ the 13 yard line. Oh and the debut of some rookie running back that had 144 in the 2nd half.
10 against G.B. – Gurley had 30 carries for 159, Foles was not as up to the task: 11-30 and 4 picks…
24 against Cleveland – except 7 of those were on a McLeod fumble return. Gurley for a 128 and 2 TDs. A long of 48.
25 against – S.F. – 2 of those on a safety. Gurley again for 133 and 1 with a long of 71.
18 against Minn. – Gurley 89 and 1 with a long of 16. After 4 straight 100 yard games, maybe someone is figuring out Gurley needs to be stopped. At the very least, contained.
13 against Chi – Gurley with 45 and 1 with a long of 9… Yep, teams have figured out stopping Gurley is the key.
So in 9 games the Rams offense has scored more then 20 points 2 times. the Rams have won 1 game when Gurley has failed to run for less then 100 yards.
In the last 2 games, teams are doing everything they can to take away Gurley. That is going to be the theme from here on out. Defenses have more then enough tape on Cigs tendancies and on Foles that they won’t be surprising anyone. Same with Gurley.
Rams are also w/o their 2 starting OGs for the season, and their RT for at least a little while. This won’t make sledding any easier.
Foles has no confidence in his pocket. This depleted line will not make things for him any better. So I see no reason why Foles is going to improve.
Gurley may continue to pile up the yards, but its only going to get tougher. And anyone counting on 1 50 yard plus run a game to help win games is living in fantasy land.
On top of this the defenses coming up are: Balt., Cinn., Arizona, Det., Tampa, Seattle and S.F. – not the easiest defenses to navigate.
So TL;DR version – Teams selling out against Gurley, Gurley not sustaining 1-2 long runs a game, Foles seriously uncomfortable in the pocket, 3/5 of the starting OL missing and good defenses coming up lead me to believe that we have not seen the worst of the Rams offense just yet…
November 16, 2015 at 7:57 pm #34240InvaderRamModeratorone of the main problems against chicago was the 2 short passes that ended up going for 80+ tds. that plus the mental errors put them in a big hole. by that point the rams couldn’t just keep feeding it to gurley. i thought he actually ran ok against the bears in the first half. and if the rams had kept it close my guess is he woulda gotten stronger and stronger.
so i guess i’m saying another key to stopping gurley is to get a huge lead so he becomes obsolete. but that’s usually hard to do with this defense.

So, gonna try to give this more attention than others this year because it has significant ramifications all across the board. I know that many were less upset about this loss than the Vikings, but I am not that guy …
I am going to say a couple things to get them out of the way right now … Gase did an amazing scouting/coaching job. I don’t know if the Bears have just finally gotten his offense or he found ways to exploit us specifically, or both. But he called a game good enough to make me wonder if he was stealing our signs. He was that good.
Along with that, the refs zeroed in on some stuff and ignored others … they didn’t lose the game for us, but I hate it when officials get wrapped up and fixated. The Good
1) Donald played as well as I’ve seen him, and his six sacks make me happy.
2) Fairley had another good game.
3) Jenks and Tru held up well outside AGAINST WRS.
4) Our first drive was emblematic of what I want us to be offensively.
5) Havenstein is the kinda player an offensive line needs to have. He wins ugly, but is dependable.
6) Marquez on ST … excellent.
The Bad
7) Nick, you’re late. Dude, I know you don’t trust you receivers to catch the ball, but you have to pull the trigger when you get the look you want.
8) Kendricks. Cook. Britt … Catch. The. Ball. What’s the deal with drops on 3rd down? Those are like fumbles.
9) Nick, what’s up with the inaccuracy? Are the WRs in the wrong spot?
10) Nick, why are you staring the receivers down?
11) Nick? Are you okay?
12) Where are my safeties?
13) Where’s my run defense? One play good, two bad?
14) Brown’s injury. Ugh. 2 down.
15) GW … not adjusting? Were you not tapped into reality this game? Dude had your number and you didn’t pull back?
16) Seriously Mason, a fumble?
17) No PI on Jeffery on Jenks would be INT? Jenks had position … maybe I missed that?
The UGLY
18) GRob … THREE DEVASTATING HOLDING PENALTIES … then you look like you gave up and were lost?
19) WRs not coming back to the ball? WHAT?
20) NICK YOU’RE LATE, THEY WERE OPEN EARLIER.
21) TWO 80 YARD TDS?????!!!!!! You should have been running laps DURING THE GAME.
22) You GAVE UP almost 200 Total yards to a rookie RB with Forte out.
23) The defeated look, I don’t want to see it again.
24) First game in a while I turned off.
25) Cignetti … what’s going on?
26) Quick, did you just give up on football?
The Aftermath
27) Sorry, benching Foles rather than benching the WRs who are dropping the ball and running the wrong routes? You best know what you’re doing Fish because it’s sending one of two messages 1) Foles is incompetent and we’re trying to light a fire under him … or 2) our WRs are incompetent and Foles needs a week away from having to deal with their inability to function in an offense.
28) O line … I hope they give Wichmann the start, and honestly I hope they have Battle at the ready for going in at any moment.
29) This seems to call some draft priorities in question, and I’ll address those … but for me nothing has changed. I will run the QBs down for everyone else, but I don’t think we need one.
30) Can they come back from this? Yes. Will they? Dunno.
31) Great, first Rams game seeing with my family (after a 5 hour drive) and a backup is starting this weekend. Ugh.
32) I still think we have a shot to pull it together and get to the playoffs …
