George Floyd and I were both arrested for allegedly spending a counterfeit $20 bill. For George Floyd, a man my age, with two kids, it was a death sentence. For me, it is a story I sometimes tell at parties. That, my friends, is White privilege.

The cell phone camera has offered more protection to Black Americans than any law enforcement agency, court, prosecutor, elected official, or news organization.

Police officers kneel in solidarity with protesters in several U.S. cities

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/protesters-police-kneel-solidarity-george-floyd/?fbclid=IwAR18-XBNDEKGu7xABAJPmO2Ck6FTGwlOFU-WVhJYIKtIyJrxtroH-HRW6uM

Protesters have been taking to the streets of several U.S. cities for nearly a week in response to the death of George Floyd. There have been a number of violent clashes between law enforcement and demonstrators across the country — but in some cities, officers have knelt in solidarity with demonstrators.

In Coral Gables, a city near Miami, a peaceful protest attended by hundreds on Saturday included a moment of prayer with police officers, CBS Miami reported. Powerful images from the demonstration show officers kneeling, heads bowed, in solidarity with protesters. Some protesters chanted “Black lives matter!” and “No justice, no peace, no racist police.”

Coral Gables Police Chief Ed Hudak said he and the organizers of the protest will keep the dialogue going this week though Zoom. The two chiefs of police also acknowledged the need for better training and reviewing protocols.

A similar scene played out in parts of New York City. Although there have been clashes in parts of the city, one official in Queens took a knee as demonstrators chanted “thank you” and “keep the peace,” CBS New York reported. Another officer was seen taking a knee in solidarity in Times Square on Sunday, prompting a hug from a demonstrator.

In Washington, D.C., a group of officers lined up and took a knee in front of the Trump International Hotel. “There was an immediate outburst of joy and fist bumping,” tweeted CBS News’ Julia Boccagno, who captured video of the scene.

In Ferguson, Missouri, the non-profit Heroic Imagination captured the moment when protesters and Ferguson police officers kneeled for over nine minutes in solidarity, CBS affiliate KMOV reported. Ferguson, where an 18-year-old black man named Michael Brown was killed by a police officer in 2014, was the catalyst for widespread protests against brutality at the time.

Photos from Houston, Texas, show Police Chief Art Acevedo walking with protesters during their march. And in Bellevue, Washington, Police Chief Steve Mylett knelt in solidarity with a group of protesters. He then addressed the crowd, telling them, “We are with you, we’re not against you,” video showed.

While there are several other videos showing police officer joining protesters in solidarity, in many cases, interactions between police officers and protesters have turned violent. In some cities, police have used rubber bullets and tear gas, and some people have set structures on fire and looted stores.

Calling what’s happening on the streets domestic terrorism is both plainly wrong and insanely dangerous and irresponsible.

Trump’s threat to use the military against the American people under the Insurrection Act is an affront to his oath of office and every precept of American democracy. It would be an illegal and unconstitutional act. Trump is inciting, dividing and weakening America. Disgraceful.

    Muriel Bowser #StayHomeDC@MurielBowser
I imposed a curfew at 7pm. A full 25 minutes before the curfew & w/o provocation, federal police used munitions on peaceful protestors in front of the White House, an act that will make the job of @DCPoliceDept officers more difficult. Shameful!

DC residents — Go home. Be safe

    Brian Stelter@brianstelter
Tucker Carlson calling Trump’s lack of leadership “distressing:”

After Friday’s violence, “the president reassured America that he and his family were safe… He did not mention protecting the rest of the nation, much of which was then on fire. He seemed aware only of himself.”

    Kevin O’Connor@KevinOConnorNBA
Donald Trump really just had the police fire tear gas and rubber bullets at peaceful protestors in Washington D.C. to clear the streets for a photo op at a church he doesn’t attend with a book he’s never read that teaches lessons he doesn’t preach. Unbelievable.

    den-the-coach

Overall I believe many of us feel there is reason for optimism in 2020 because the year itself has been the most challenging and in the words of Sonny & Cher “The Beat Goes on.”

Anyway back to the Los Angeles Rams and I do believe the offense should improve because the Offensive Line barring injury, should improve and IMO, the TE’s should make more of an impact as they did towards the end of last season and the changes to the coaching staff appear to be all for the good across the board, so I’m anxious to see how it plays out.

    Concerns???? Many.

Pass Rush….I loved Dante Fowler and will miss him, he will make Atlanta’s defense better, so where does the pass rush come from? Players like Ogbonnia “Obo” Okoronkwo, Samson Ebukam, Michael Floyd & even rookie Terrell Lewis need to provide that spark in order to take off pressure of Aaron Donald and put fear into opposing Quarterbacks.

Vertical Congestion…..A WR that can go over the top is something that when the Rams acquired Brandon Cooks, Sean McVay stated “It was a necessity in his offense.” Currently the Rams have route runners & no actual speed WR, will it hamper the offense? Seem to do that when they initially lost Cooks, but McVay adapted and it appears the fastest WR might be on the bench in Nsimba Webster, who ran a 4.4 40.

Inside Linebacker….They did not pay Cory Littleton, let’s hope this is not London Fletcher Part Deux….Rams will look to Micah Kiser again and most likely Travin Howard to fill Littleton’s role, however, I for one hope that Troy Reeder stays on special teams as IMO, seemed very slow in his reactions, but he was a rookie.

Offensive Line….All of us have talked about it, but now we have to hope the regime was right. Staying healthy is the key, but the thought of not bringing back Whitworth, trading for Trent Williams & drafting a Center might make most of us feel confident, however, some are very confident with Whit, Corbett, Blythe, Edwards & Evans over Havenstein, so hopefully this won’t be an issue and they will come together as a unit in 2020.

Special Teams…Not as concerned as I was because as much as I loved John Fassel, John Bonamego has had success and the trio of kickers he’s brought in, I feel very good about one of them being extraordinary and I feel that there is plenty of fine athletes available on the roster to ensure this unit is better in 2020.

Battled for days to find the words and I don’t know if I ever will find them. Not to appropriately give weight to the injustice and despair that our brothers and sisters experience and live in each and every day.

But the fact that I can’t speak seems deserving, because talking has been done for so long without a willingness by so many to listen, understand, reflect, and move to bring change both inward and outward.

We have an obligation to walk with every ounce of strength against those that operate daily in prejudice.

The pit in my stomach reminds me that it has been known the injustice and brokenness that exists, and still I have not joined along in the screams for change.

While at the same time working, living, walking alongside my friends who live each day in a system and society that has failed them repeatedly.

My family will not stand for it and we will move. Stillness breeds stagnancy. And we will not be still any longer.

    On CB David Long Jr.

I think this kid lights it up this year. I expect him to take Troy Hill’s spot or make Troy up his game seriously.

I’m more confident with this position group (actually all DBs) than I have been in as long as I can remember. They’re young, hungry, and well coached.

zn: umbrella guy and his violence

Yeah, at this point, the only thing I can really say about it is that it wouldn’t surprise me. But it is not definitive.
