znModeratorUm…I have nothing but high praise for alyoshamucci.
But you do not use a playoff game to get tape on your #2 QB for information down the road. That is the dumbest thing he has ever said.

alyoshamucci: Goff being more an active participant cheering on Wolford than the previous week starting at QB. Guess that’s good and bad … just hope maybe it lights a fire under him.
Just taking a guess here. Goff is a huge personal disappointment to some. It’s very emotional. IMO the problem is he not only makes mistakes, he makes embarrassing ones. Plus, there’s this “fire” thing. He doesn’t cheer on as a qb. I dunno, a lot of stuff is being said.

Game 16 … Cardinals
What a weird game … good lord. Exciting as a result … haven’t had excitement like that in a while … expectations have been too high.
What I think we should do at QB
1) Dress Goff, start Wolford. Goff comes in if it’s too big for Wolford.
2) Reasons … I believe it works, first off. Second, I think Wolford with 2 games of tape against decent defense is good for return on investment later. Third, I think the 3rd down scrambles might be more important in this game than Goff’s accuracy. We can only do it once IMO … and there’s no better team to do it against than one that knows our normal offense cold.
The Great
3) Winning to get into the playoffs with a backup QB. That means we have the right backup.
4) Getting sacks when we needed them …
5) First down scrambles.
6) Legit read option threat.
7) Troy Hill’s pick 6.
The Good
8) Wolford recovering from his first pass.
9) Akers healthy.
10) Gaines getting good push.
11) Not gonna miss Everett.
12) Goff being more an active participant cheering on Wolford than the previous week starting at QB. Guess that’s good and bad … just hope maybe it lights a fire under him.
The Bad
12) Am going to miss JJ3, Hill, Reynolds, and Floyd (and hopefully not Darious Williams)
13) Man, that first pick was scary.
14) How many pics were dropped?
15) We weren’t really ready when Kyler came back in.
The Ugly
16) Everett’s missed TD. The throw was perfect. Like, if you’re running that route you hope he throws it to that exact spot …

The Rams have activated Michael Brockers to the 53-man roster from Covid/reserve. He will play Saturday against Seattle.trey wingo@wingoz
The one thing the NFL does better than any league is sell quick turn around: We have 7 new teams in the 2020 post season that weren’t in a year ago. That makes 31 straight seasons at least 4 new teams made the playoffs that weren’t in it the season before==
aeneas1
wildcard underdogs are 8-4 dating back to 2017… last year dogs went 3-1, the year before 3-1, and the year before that 2-2… moreover, only 1 of the 12 wildcard favorites over the past three years covered the spread
znModeratorI know there are plenty of theories and actual explanations over how and why people like “these” get so angry. The best I can come up with is something my wife says: A changing demography that best can be described, in the eyes of the Trumpers, as a cultural eclipse. Their “way of life” is being overrun by people that look different-meaning black and brown people.
I suspect that’s a big part of it.
znModeratorI didn’t see it as whitewashing her conduct or casting her as a martyr. I read it as depicting a crackpot filled with anger. Rather than posting it as an excuse for her conduct I posted it hoping for insights on just how someone like her could get that way because clearly there are many like her-far more than I ever thought.
I didn’t see you as excusing her. My responses were to the article. I don’t assume that everything everyone posts is always them using substitute editorials to speak for their own view. It’s a recent event with wide, deep roots, and at times like this, people just post things as they come in.
In terms of our own somewhat different perspectives, on first impressions, I did see the article as more white-washy than you did. But that’s not a big deal. You could be right.
znModeratorHey you guys ! I know what socialism is; I know my conservative friends are “nutz”; I know that calling Biden a socialist is simply “mane calling”. I get all that. My point is how can we ever come close to bridging these gaps as long as there is such a divergence of opinions
It’s not a “divergence of opinions.” They’re wrong. One side in this is not an “opinion,” it’s rational and fact-based truth.
Same with climate change deniers. I don’t want “middle ground” with deniers, they’re wrong.
Same with those who downplay covid. I don’t want to arrive at a middle ground with them. They’re wrong.
Same with those who claim Trump won the election and was robbed. I don’t want to meet them halfway. They’re wrong.
Those are all dangerous things to be wrong about.
…
znModeratorThat’s a strangely white-washing article.
She defied cops and guards with weapons drawn to get into the house of representatives while it was in session because she believed that the election was stolen.
That’s a crackpot conspiracy theory.
I don’t care how “sincere” or “good” she was, she was in the process of trying to harass congress in session because she bought into a stupid Trump lie.
There’s not much there to respect or value.
I would never wish her fate upon her if it were up to me, but still–she’s not this honorable martyr.

znModeratorNone of that is on the table in any way…with maybe the one exception of government health insurance…and Biden opposes that.
So…again…name a socialist policy or system that Biden supports.
And by the “strict definition of policies” test, of course, not a single member of the Dem party is a “socialist” though some are progressives who advocate policies (such as M4A) which fit within a “New Deal reborn” model that is still essentially amended capitalism and not strictly socialist.
And as I said Biden shut those people out and does not identify with any of their policies.
Though you know of course that to a lot of righties the word “socialist” is not used in anything remotely like its real sense. It’s just a pejorative buzz term for anyone who advocates any social and economic policies that are not “shrink the government” style right-wing policies.
It reminds me of the days of Martin Luther King when many opposed to civil rights called the typical policy ideas of the civil rights movement “communist.” It’s just a big broad form of name-calling.

znModeratorfrom Ranking NFL playoff defenses from 1-14
https://theathletic.com/2304699/2021/01/07/nfl-playoff-defense-rankings/?source=dailyemail
1. Los Angeles Rams
Their defense is built around two Hall of Fame-caliber talents — Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey — who are at the peak of their powers. Donald was dominant on a weekly basis in the regular season, and Ramsey was a true shutdown corner. Every team wants to limit explosive pass plays, but no team actually did that better than the Rams. They ranked first league-wide in DVOA on deep passing attempts, according to Football Outsiders. They allowed a league-low 13 deep completions all season. Because of Donald, the Rams don’t have to blitz at a high rate. And no defense was more effective (Expected Points Added per snap) on plays where they rushed four or fewer. On the back end, as The Athletic’s Robert Mays outlined, the Rams play a lot with two deep safeties. They were the league’s best zone team (EPA per play), according to Sports Info Solutions’ charting. While the Steelers’ defense finished first in overall DVOA, the Rams were first in weighted DVOA, which factors in later-season play more than early-season play. In other words, no defense is playing better than the Rams going into the playoffs.
znModeratorBiden a socialist? I have conservative friends tell me that. And a few are not dumb. I watch interviews of these anarchists in D.C. and its like ” we won’t let Biden turn this country into “socialism”. Then I come here and its like Biden is no different than a free market capitalist.
It is no wonder to me that, from a political standpoint, we are so far apart in our views. You guys here must laugh when you hear Trump supporters yell about Biden and his band of socialists.
I just can’t figure this stuff out anymore.
This is a long long conversation but part of being a leftist includes a commitment to science, research, inquiry, and fact-based understanding. That’s not exclusive to leftists of course but it IS a leftist thing. Evidence, history, attention to policies, empirical understanding, and so on. That can go hand in hand in many cases with religious faith–many paleontologists, for example, say they are people of faith, the point being there is no contradiction there.
And righties have drifted off into la-la land. Conspiracy theories, red scare discourse, rejection of fact-based knowledge, and so on. Anti-maskers, deniers of the virus, and also–belief that Biden is a “socialist.”
And of course, simply put, Biden is not a “socialist.” In fact very far from it. That’s a simple fact and it will hold up to whatever kind of rational scrutiny you want to bring. The righties who say otherwise are deluded. Pure and simple.
This is not a “divided world with contrasting perceptions” thing. Your rightie friends are demonstrably, completely in the wrong about that. Pure and simple. It’s part of right-wing thinking that enemies are tied to exclusionary buzz terms and beyond that there’s no logic. So for example there were thousands of BLM protests last summer with several million people marching in them all across the country, and we KNOW–factually KNOW–the vast majority of those (95% or more) were peaceful. But what is a BLM protest to a rightie? Looting, arson, rioting, violence. It’s simply not true. But they cannot *hear* it.
Biden is as much a “socialist” as you and I are 49er fans. In fact Biden conducts open warfare against progressives.
