znModeratorJames Laurinaitis was the defensive leader and play caller for the team for a better part of a decade. Fundamentally sound and as hard working as they come. One of those players that deserved to see playoff football!

This really could have been a few different rising Rams players, but I selected DL Sebastian Joseph-Day with the understanding that he – already a really good run defender – has added to his pass-rush arsenal this spring and summer. https://theathletic.com/2470407/2021/03/25/rams-d-linemen-hope-working-with-this-independent-coach-in-the-offseason-turns-into-sacks-and-big-paydays/?source=emp_shared_article
znModeratorfrom Ranking the NFL’s top 10 interior defensive linemen for 2021: Execs, coaches, players make their picks
Going to try and access what they say about Donald here but it’s espn insider. So far I have a bit from it.
from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2021/07/06/rams-nfl-aaron-donald-interior-defender-vote-poll/
ESPN surveyed more than 50 NFL executives, coaches, scouts and players to rank the 10 best players at each position and unsurprisingly, Donald was the top interior defender once again. It’s the second year in a row Donald has received more first-place votes than every player in the NFL regardless of position.
However, one voter ranked him as low as fourth at his position, meaning that person believes there are three interior defenders better than Donald. The Steelers’ Stephon Tuitt was the only other player to earn a first-place vote, likely from that same voter who put Donald fourth.
Yes, someone voted Donald fourth. That particular voter prioritized youth and upside. But Donald has shown zero signs of slowing down at age 30. His 24.2% pass-rush win rate leads all defensive tackles by a wide margin, and that’s with facing a double-team on 219 of his 314 rushes, the most in the league. Donald created 30 incompletions, second to edge rusher T.J. Watt.
“You’re not stopping him,” an NFC exec said. “[You] just hope to get the ball out fast.”

znModeratorMy understanding of the Alamo was that when Eisenhower gave the go ahead to launch the invasion on June 6, it was a decisive event in world history.
I don’t see you crazy revisionists changing people’s understanding of that any time soon.

DeSean Jackson
If this were the same Jackson that took the NFL by storm, it would be a different conversation, but he’s not and it’s not. Jackson’s return to the Eagles was unceremonious and wholly derailed by injury, something that’s plagued him wildly in recent seasons. Jackson was available for only eight games over the last two seasons combined, and grabbed just 395 receiving yards and three touchdowns when on the field during that time. Once also a dynamic returner, that’s no longer on the table for a 34-year-old that had only two return yards in 2020. The L.A. kid returning home is definitely a romantic headline, but there’s a reason the Rams only gave him a one-year deal and if he gets injured and/or doesn’t show up and show out, he’ll be shown the door.

znModeratorWow, zn, that is a beautiful place to live. And the Lombardi Trophy in your garden is a special touch.
I have a nice piece of property in a still-small, gold rush town, but I would be happier if I lived in a place even more rural. I’d like to live among more wildlife with less pavement and more bugs. Less light pollution. A place where you can’t hear any traffic most of the time.
You’ve posted pics of different parts of your place before. It looks good. I thought it was cool.
We do have some wildlife. In our backyard we’ve seen wild turkeys (pretty regularly), red foxes, big ass “Last of the Mohicans” style white tail deer, possums. There’s rare kinds of woodpeckers. There’s supposed to be a fisher cat but I have never seen it–though we do know that in this neighborhood, cats that go outdoors tend to disappear, which is probably the fisher cat (which are amazingly vicious). The garden when it blooms (it’s really a summer/fall garden without real blooms before July) brings swarms of hummingbirds. I have a standing request from my wife–she sleeps during the day to work a night shift (as an RN), but if I see hummingbirds in the garden she wants me to wake her to see them.
znModeratornothing compares to the Blue Ridge for me. It’s a longer drive, but the views are stunning and nature is the star all on its own, with nothing to prove. No cages. We’re the guests, et
I have always had an affinity for the woods. It has always just been there. (I know you were talking about mountains but if I recall the Blue Ridge area is heavily forested.) My family was very into camping growing up and in fact they still have a cabin in western Ontario. So I like where the spouse-n-I live now cause it’s wooded. I will always take longer routes driving around if it takes me through wooded areas and will avoid the straighter routes that are full of stores and gas stations and concrete. In fact here’s a view of our house (we live on a cul de sac). The 2nd pic is our garden (or about 1/4th of it) as it stood 3 or 4 weeks ago. The third pic is the area where we live (which is called Cumberland Foreside).

znModeratorI am familiar with that take on history–that the Texas revolt was primarily driven by the desire to preserve slavery. I think it has made its case and as someone who grew up with the myths of Davy Crockett and the brave stand at the Alamo, I found it eye-opening when I first encountered the “it was slavery” interpretation.
Some local controversies in San Antonio: https://www.texastribune.org/2021/05/10/alamo-renovation-slavery/
Generations of Texas schoolchildren have been taught to admire the Alamo defenders as revolutionaries slaughtered by the Mexican army in the fight for Texas independence. But several were enslavers, including William B. Travis and Davy Crockett — an inconvenient fact in a state where textbooks have only acknowledged since 2018 that slavery was at issue in the Civil War.
Indeed, an enslaved man named Joe, who was owned by Travis, survived the battle of the Alamo and became one of the primary sources of information about the 13-day siege, inspiring dozens of books and movies, including the John Wayne classic.
Key members of the state’s GOP leadership and some conservative groups are insisting that the renovation stay focused on the battle. A bill introduced by 10 Republican state lawmakers would bar the overhaul from citing any reasons for the Texas Revolution beyond those mentioned in the Texas Declaration of Independence — which does not include slavery.
“If they want to bring up that it was about slavery, or say that the Alamo defenders were racist, or anything like that, they need to take their rear ends over the state border and get the hell out of Texas,” said Brandon Burkhart, president of the This is Freedom Texas Force, a conservative group that held an armed protest last year in Alamo Plaza.

Los Angeles Rams
The Rams — and especially head coach Sean McVay — pushed their chips all the way in on another Super Bowl run, or at least believe they have, in trading for Matthew Stafford and shipping out former first overall pick Jared Goff. McVay believes Stafford will elevate the offense in ways that include activating eligible receivers at a more efficient rate and becoming more explosive both vertically and horizontally in the passing game. Adding a veteran quarterback who has been to a wild-card game just three times in a 13-year career might seem like a risk, but in Stafford, McVay believes he has found a collaborator in his offense and someone who can execute his vision. — Jourdan Rodrigue
