znModeratorThe Rams have allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL. What are the odds of the offensive line giving up another zero this week against the Giants? https://t.co/ZqXmfsiZ00 pic.twitter.com/sdYXDjB800

PFF’s rankings for Rams OL through week 5
LT Whitworth- 11th out of 74 OT
LG Edwards- 21st out of 74 OG
C Allen- 9th out of 35 C
RG Corbett- 23rd out of 74 OG
RT Havenstein- 9th out of 74 OT

The OL
After five games, against good teams that have a pretty good front seven,
They have been playing outstanding football.
According to Football Outsiders, the OL is ranked 7th for both run and pass protection.
Ranked 19th on the run block, in which I think thats a little miscued because we’ve been passing the rock more than using the run.
But the pass protection is outstanding and we are number one.
We are the top OL with the least amount of pass pressure percentage and only giving up 3 sacks after five games against good front seven defensive teams.
Four of those five teams were playoff teams last season with AZ an up rising team for this season was our only lost, and during that game, our OL still played outstanding.
Continuity has a lot to do with how this unit is playing,
After being together and going into their third year as a unit,
Plus building up the physical strength in the middle
With two experience bookends,
Has a lot to do with how they are playing IMO.

Darious Williams misses the next three games, at least, being the games against the Giants, Lions and Texans. It’s a good time to let him rest and let David Long and Robert Rochell get some extended game timeCameron DaSilva@camdasilva
Rams are 2nd in passing yards but only 18th in pass attempts. They’re also 1st in net yards per attempt. Talk about being efficient

Matthew Stafford leads all NFL QBs in DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) which is nearly 10% higher than Patrick Mahomes who is 2nd, Dak Prescott who is 3rd, Tom Brady who is 4th and more than 10% better than 5th place, Kyler Murray.October 12, 2021 at 2:37 pm in reply to: setting up the Giants game (updated w/ good 1 by JB Long) #133018

Long played the slot, Ramsey bumped outside full time after Williams left. Rams don’t want to be stuck in “QB avoid” situation w Ramsey affecting so many plays so exploring rotations. Personally would be interested in Ramsey/Burgess Star rotation&seeing what Long can do as slotBy “Star” I do not mean solely slot player, I mean moving DB who at times is featured in the slot. But I think you also get added flexibility if you can see Long grow in some slot opportunities.
Robert Rochell, who played at Central Arkansas and was a fourth-round pick this spring, came off scout team with zero live reps to prep against Seattle on a short week with only one functioning hand. Made some mistakes, but also a big EZ PBU.

Seahawks …
So not a pretty win, but one thing I like about successful teams is winning ugly “if they have to” …
It’s obvious that Stafford is still getting to know everyone … as a franchise QB he isn’t used to having to learn more than one or two guys a year.
The Great
1) Movement in the running game. We’re as passing team that can run when they want to … that matters.
2) Mediocre game for Stafford includes 365 passing yards.
3) Robert Woods reminding everyone who he is.
The Good
4) Reeder being Johnny on the spot now twice.
5) Terrell Lewis sighting … I’m a fan.
6) 1-2 punch at RB looking viable.
7) Streak breakers … Seattle hasn’t lost in that uniform or on Thursday in years. Also winning on the road is nice …
8) SJD deserve a mention for his overall pay this year … he may get us a 5th rounder.
9) Brian Allen. Hopefully he doesn’t cost that much to keep.
10) Watching us stop the early 4th down call was fun.
11) Floyd run defense.
12) AD being sack assisted rather than the assistance.
The Bad
13) I’m gonna put Stafford’s misses here until he fixes it.
14) Jefferson not getting the TD. Not only because he was live on my fantasy team.
15) Ramsey giving up the slant TD to Metcalf.
16) Being thankful for the PI by Williams … he got torched.
17) Did we give up a 90 yard TD drive to Geno Smith … ? Did that happen?
18) Our safeties are invisible in this defense.
The Ugly
19) Um … did Tutu run out of the endzone, trip over over his own feet and fumble without being touched? Was that real?
20) How is Rochell on DK Metcalf on that TD? That’s unacceptable.

Sean McVay: Darious Williams could likely go on short-term injured reserve in coming days due to the fickle nature of ankle sprains but reiterates it’s not season-ending. Says Williams won’t be available this week against NYG.Short term IR is three games, as a reminder, before activation window opens. McVay indicated other pieces are falling into place before team makes that call.

znModeratorI am going to the Giants game with my wife
That’s very cool. Post stories. Let us know how the experience goes.
znModeratorSony Michel looks very ordinary to me.
I see a little more in Michel than you do. He’s like a more polished version of Malcolm Brown. Better vision than Brown. Makes the most of what he has. Would never be a dynamic back in any system but reliable and tough. This is not a first tier running game and in fact statistically it’s in the below avg. but I agree that it will serve them fine.

znModeratorHe doesn’t like play action, and he doesn’t like pre-snap motion
I’ve read where MS doesn’t like motion. I’m not sure I’ve read where he doesn’t like play action. I thought he did? I seem to recall he was considered good at it.

If McVay doesn’t get back to his bread & butter this team won’t make the SB. Stafford is damn good but he’s not elite. This team is basically averaging the same ppg & ypg as last season thru 5 games – against worse competition. I think that’s more on McVay than Stafford.Mikey Ostrowski@FF_Mikey10
Tutu Atwell with arguably the worst kick return attempt of all timeRichard Ramsey@Richard95549251
Trung Candidate beat him. He took the opening kickoff to the 2 yard line to open a season once for the Rams. Don’t forget Mike Thomas fumbling the opening KO in Fisher’s last game. Also a doozie…
znModeratorCornell29
Stafford
Its only been 5 games with new wrs that he is still trying to get his timing down with. Once he has time to build chemistry he will get the timing down. Stafford is experiencing the same issues Brady experienced early last year with Tampa. New offense new timing. He’s proven over his long career that he can air it out with accuracy.

znModeratorI honestly worry about McV’s ability to present an even keel and have his team mirror that kind of consistent controlled urgency.
His teams are too amped up sometimes, and too flat sometimes (particularly after big wins).
I honestly wonder if he gets that a team mirrors its coaches moods to an extent.
znModeratorJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Sean McVay added that Leonard Floyd is OK – “just kind of gave me a heart attack with the way he was laying there for a second”. Said they seemed to come out relatively clean in that he’s feeling positive about Stafford’s finger, Higbee’s shoulder.Asked Sean McVay – as the Rams clearly showed willingness to re-shuffle secondary even prior to Williams’ injury – about whether we’d see Terrell Burgess’ role expand: “Terrell is a guy who you want to get going. I have a lot of belief and confidence in Terrell. You want to see
if that’s something that comes to life when we get back (from the mini-bye).”
Sean McVay went for about five minutes on rookie CB Robert Rochell and how many positive, buildable things they saw from him Thurs including the way he used his length of frame, short-area quickness and how even-keel he was through mistakes.
Sounds like he’ll continue to start.
Jalen Ramsey said that CB Robert Rochell was unflappable through a few down moments despite making his first start as a rookie in a hostile environment. The DBs were talking him up after a couple moments, he said, but Rochell didn’t even need it because he stayed even-keeled.
No QB in a healthy state of mind WANTS to be throwing at Ramsey. But his coverage plan makes it really, really hard to intentionally avoid him now. Rams thin at players who can unlock that versatility as they monitor Williams’ status.
They moved Long into the slot when Williams left the game (he had not played a single snap there all season nor did to my knowledge in camp). Burgess played some slot, some Star and has played (and practiced) a little CB. We’ll see what happens – longer recovery week helps too.
