    The Rams have drafted 16 players that have wound up in the HOF; 4 Edge rushers, 4 WRs, 2 QBs, 2 OTs, 2 RBs, 1 DT & 1 OG. Will be 17 after Donald gets in. Henry Ellard, Torry Holt, Eddie Meador, Isiah Robertson, Charlie Cowan, Steven Jackson & Roman Gabriel should all be there too

    Rams GM Les Snead says Von Miller’s departure led to Allen Robinson’s signing: “We held a spot for Von and we held some cap space for Von, so when he chose to go to Buffalo … what we did was pivot to a different position that we felt would help our football team.”

    I think one of the most depressing parts of being a Seahawks fan over the past month has been watching fans assassinate Wilson’s character (after being traded) while simultaneously begging the team to trade for Watson.

    Matt Ryan never asked the Falcons for a new contract — that was not a part of the equation, per sources. He just felt like the time had come to move on from Atlanta. Ryan signed off on a trade to Indianapolis because he felt like the Colts have a roster that’s built to win now.

    I think that might be true. Rams under DV were only good the years he was there–97-99. They didn’t nail the lower round picks the way this group does, though they had a lot of great finds with UDFAs. My only complaint about this crew is they aren’t as good with the 2nd round. I think it’s because McV falls in love with this or that guy. I doubt he has as much investment in the lower picks and just lets the personnel pros run it.

    The Falcons fielded trade calls the last few days centered around QB Matt Ryan, sources say. Today is a deadline to make a decision, as Ryan will earn a $7.5M roster bonus from ATL if he’s on the roster at 4 pm. It’ll be either a trade or back to ATL, possibly with a sweetener.

    Matt Ryan is a good fit for Indy. Indy has the cap money, shouldn’t take more then a 2nd and 3rd this year and conditional 1st next year.

    This is the thing. This right here. All the rest–where they spend enormous cap space plus high picks on a small set of top players–would not work at all if they were not good at drafting in the lower rounds.

    And it’s no illusion. They are good at drafting in the lower rounds. Better than they ever have been in the past, even those times in the past when they drafted well.
