WTF is this? Is this guy any good? Does this say anything about Woods or OBJ?

Okay, this guy looks pretty good.

I did not see this coming. I hope this is just insurance, though, and not the end of Robert Woods.

The strangest thing about the Rams signing Allen Robinson is that it takes away a comp pick. Shows how much they think of A-Rob as a player.

    Professional career[edit]

Coming out of Penn State, Robinson was projected by the majority of analysts and scouts to be a first-to-third round draft selection. NFLDraftScout.com ranked him as the sixth best wide receiver and the 34th overall prospect, while Sports Illustrated ranked him seventh among wide receivers.[39] He was invited to the 2014 NFL Combine and completed the majority of workouts, but elected not to perform the bench press. Robinson participated at Penn State’s Pro Day and decided to perform all the drills except the bench and shuttle and was able to improve on all of his combine numbers.[40]

    Jacksonville Jaguars[edit]

    2014
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Robinson in the second round with the 61st overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.[42] He was the 11th wide receiver selected and the second receiver drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014, behind Marqise Lee who was selected in the second round at 39th overall. In addition, Robinson was one of three Penn State Nittany Lions to be selected that year.[43] On June 21, 2014, the Jaguars signed Robinson to a four-year, $3.51 million contract that included $1.17 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $877,718.[44]

Robinson opened the regular season as the fourth wide receiver behind Marqise Lee, Cecil Shorts, and fellow rookie Allen Hurns.[45][46] In the Jaguars’ season opener on September 7, he caught his first career pass from Chad Henne for no gain in a 34–17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.[47] On September 14, he had four receptions for 75 receiving yards in the 41–10 loss to the Washington Redskins.[48] On September 21, he earned his first career start and caught seven passes for 79 receiving yards in a 44–17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3.[49] On October 12, he caught a season-high eight passes for 68 receiving yards in a 14–16 loss to the Tennessee Titans.[50] The following week, Robinson caught his first touchdown from fellow rookie Blake Bortles during a 24–6 victory over the Cleveland Browns[51] to help the Jacksonville Jaguars end a nine-game losing streak.[52] On October 26, he had five receptions for 82 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in the 27–13 loss to the Miami Dolphins.[53] On November 9, he had five receptions for 60 receiving yards in a 31–17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.[54] The game against the Cowboys was Robinson’s last game in the 2014 season where he recorded any meaningful statistics due to a stress fracture in his right foot.[55]

Robinson finished his rookie season with 48 receptions for 548 receiving yards and two touchdowns while starting eight games and playing in ten.[56]

    2015
The following season, Robinson was named one of the regular season starters, along with fellow second-year player Allen Hurns.[57]

In the season opener, he caught one pass for 27 receiving yards in a 9–20 loss to the Carolina Panthers.[58] The next game, Robinson caught six passes for a season-high 155 receiving yards and scored two receiving touchdowns during a 23–20 victory over the Miami Dolphins[59] On October 11, he had seven receptions for 72 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns in the 38–31 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.[60] In the next game on October 18, he had six receptions for 86 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in the 31–20 loss to the Houston Texans.[61] The next week, he had six receptions for 98 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in a 34–31 victory over the Buffalo Bills.[62] On November 8, he had six receptions for 121 receiving yards in the 28–23 victory over the New York Jets.[63] On November 19, he had five receptions for 113 receiving yards in a 19–13 victory over the Tennessee Titans.[64] On December 20, Robinson caught a season-high 10 receptions for 153 receiving yards and a season-high three receiving touchdowns during a 39–42 loss to the Tennessee Titans.[65] On December 27, he had six receptions for 151 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in the 38–27 loss to the New Orleans Saints. His receiving touchdown in the game was a 90-yard reception, which was the longest in the NFL for the 2015 season and the longest play from scrimmage in franchise history.[66][67][68] In the regular season finale on January 3, 2016, he had five receptions for 108 receiving yards in a 30–6 loss to the Houston Texans as the Jaguars finished with a 5–11 record.[69][70]

Robinson finished his second season with 80 receptions for 1,400 receiving yards and 14 touchdown receptions.[71] He led the Jaguars in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns during the 2015 season and was the first Jaguars’ receiver since Jimmy Smith in 2005 to have over 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.[49] Robinson recorded the second-most receiving yards in a season in franchise history at the time.[72] He, along with Doug Baldwin and Brandon Marshall, tied for the league lead in receiving touchdowns with 14.[73] He was the first player in franchise history to be a league leader in receiving touchdowns in a single season.[74]

Robinson was named as a first alternate to the 2016 Pro Bowl and replaced Calvin Johnson, who was unable to participate due to injury.[75] He was ranked 31st by his fellow players on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2016.[76]

After Robinson and Hurns both had breakout seasons in 2015 with over 60 receptions, 1,000 receiving yards, and 10 touchdown receptions each, they were nicknamed “Thunder and Lightning” and “The Allen Brothers”.[77][78]

    2016
In the Jaguars’ season-opener against the Green Bay Packers, Robinson caught six passes for 72 receiving yards in a 23–27 loss.[79] On September 25, he made seven receptions for 57 receiving yards, and caught his first two touchdowns of the season during a 17–19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.[80] During a Week 10 matchup against AFC South rival Houston, Robinson had a nine receptions, 107 receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown during the 21–24 loss.[81] The victory over the Texans was Robinson’s first game of the season eclipsing 100 receiving yards. On Christmas Eve, he bounced back and caught nine passes for a season-high 147 receiving yards in a 38–17 victory over their division rival Tennessee Titans.[82]

The Jacksonville Jaguars finished the season with a dismal 3–13 record and head coach Gus Bradley was fired after Week 15. Interim head coach Doug Marrone was hired on January 9, 2017.[49] Robinson finished the 2016 season with 73 receptions for 883 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.[83]

    2017
During Week 1 against the Houston Texans, Robinson had one reception for 17 yards but had to leave the game early in the first quarter with an apparent knee injury.[84] Hours later, it was confirmed that his left knee was diagnosed with a torn ACL, which prematurely ended his 2017 season.[85] He was placed on injured reserve on September 12, 2017.[86]

    Chicago Bears[edit]

    2018
On March 14, 2018, Robinson signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Chicago Bears.[87][88] He was part of a position group that contained Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller, and Josh Bellamy.[89] He made his Bears debut in the season opener against the Green Bay Packers on NBC Sunday Night Football, recording a team-high 61 yards.[90] The next week, he brought in a season-high 10 receptions for 83 yards in a 24–17 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.[91] On September 30, he scored his first receiving touchdown with the Bears on a 14-yard reception from Mitchell Trubisky in a 48–10 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.[92] The next week, he scored again against the Miami Dolphins on a 12-yard catch as part of a 64-yard performance on five receptions in the 31–28 overtime loss.[93] In Week 10, a 34–22 victory over the Detroit Lions, Robinson had six catches for 133 yards and two touchdowns.[94][95]

Robinson finished the 2018 season with 55 catches for 754 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns. He received an overall grade of 77.7 from Pro Football Focus in 2018, which ranked as the 28th highest grade among all qualifying wide receivers.[96] In his postseason debut, a 16–15 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round, Robinson set two postseason franchise records: 10 receptions, which tied with Matt Forte, and 143 receiving yards.[97][98]

    2019

    Robinson in 2019

In Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers, Robinson caught seven passes for 102 receiving yards as the Bears lost 10–3.[99] In Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, Robinson caught four passes for 41 receiving yards as the Bears won 16–14. With seconds left on the game clock, Robinson caught a 25-yard pass from quarterback Mitchell Trubisky that set up a 53-yard game winning field goal by Eddy Piñeiro.[100] In Week 5 against the Oakland Raiders, Robinson caught seven passes for 97 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns in the 24–21 loss.[101] In Week 12 against the New York Giants, Robinson caught six passes for 131 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in the 19–14 win.[102] In Week 13 against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day, Robinson caught eight passes for 86 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in the 24–20 win.[103] In the following week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, Robinson caught five passes for 48 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns in the 31–24 win.[104] In Week 15 against the Packers, Robinson caught seven passes for 125 receiving yards in the 21–13 loss. During the game, Robinson reached 1,000 receiving yards on the season for the first time since 2015.[105] He became the first Bears receiver to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a single season since Alshon Jeffery in 2014.[106] Robinson finished the 2019 season with a career high in receptions with 98 for 1,147 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns.[107]

    2020
During Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons, Robinson finished with 123 receiving yards and a touchdown as the Bears won 30–26.[108] In the following week’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, Robinson recorded seven catches for 101 yards and another touchdown during the 19–11 loss.[109] In Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, he had eight receptions for 74 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns during the 41–25 loss.[110]

In Week 13 against the Detroit Lions, Robinson caught a pass on third down-and-5 with 22 seconds left in the game and stepped out of bounds after four yards instead of going for the first down. The Bears were unable to convert on the ensuing fourth-and-1 attempt and turned the ball over on downs, losing the game by a score of 34–30.[111][112] In Week 14 against the Houston Texans, he had nine receptions for 123 receiving yards and a touchdown in the 36–7 victory;[113] the performance enabled him to pass 1,000 receiving yards for the second straight season.[114] The following week’s game saw Robinson play against his former team in the Jacksonville Jaguars,[115] during which he recorded 103 receiving yards and surpassed 100 season receptions for the first time in his career as the Bears won 41–17.[116] Overall, Robinson finished the 2020 season with 102 receptions for 1,250 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.[117] Robinson’s 102 receptions tied him with Matt Forte for the second-most in franchise history for a single season.[118]

    2021

On March 9, 2021, the Bears placed the franchise tag on Robinson.[119] He signed the one-year tender on March 24.[120] Overall, Robinson finished the 2021 season with 38 receptions for 410 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown in 12 games played.[121]

    Los Angeles Rams
On March 17, 2022, Robinson signed a three year, $46 million dollar contract with the Los Angeles Rams.[122]

Love this pick-up. Robinson is an excellent athlete for his size. Gives the Rams someone who can go and get the 50/50 throws, and can body-out in the End Zone. Has never really had a good QB to work with, but still was highly productive. Stafford/McVay could make him an All-Pro.

Smart move by the Rams, especially given the iffy status of Woods and OBJ.

IMO, if they bring back OBJ, they need to trade Van Jefferson before the upcoming draft. Even if they can’t bring him back, they should consider it.

Robinson is a true #1 . . . so the Rams now have three legit top dogs, even before OBJ comes back.

Get Wagner and Lorenzo Carter and this is an excellent FA period so far.

Big news for the Rams, who have agreed to terms with WR Allen Robinson, source confirms multiple reports. This is a big twist and a high-caliber add to their WRs room. Several teams were interested in Robinson.
I am also told this move does NOT mean the Rams don’t also want to re-sign Beckham. That deal is tricky and may take some time to work out considering injury and eventual return timeline.

This also tells us a bit about Tutu — perhaps.

He doesn’t seem to be in their plans. Not now, or tomorrow. Obviously, they won it all, so it’s kinda sorta moot. Snead’s T-shirt, etc. But that was a truly very bad no good awful 2nd round pick.

    Can he play slot corner?

    ;>)

Btw, folks: Amazon Music has an excellent channel for Saint Patrick’s Day. Enjoying meself ever so much with the rowdy tunes. Just finished a fine Irish Coffee to go along with them. Saving the Guinness for later tonight, and the viewing of Once. Not in the same league as the Irish coffee I had in Ireland,  of course, along the profoundly beautiful Ring of Kerry. But it was still refreshing!

Surprising and awesome move. A tough receiver to take some hits off of Kupp. Always reminded me of a bigger, burlier Anquan Boldan. I guess big WR Ben Skopfensteinwrek isn’t gonna factor into the O.
    .
    Axel Kopun@FV_Mylia_Lynn
Remember what the Rams were facing in the SB – OBJ got hurt so it was basically Kupp at WR & no one else. Kupp missed last half of 2018, Woods last half of 2021, so quality depth at WR is crucial. If Kupp stays healthy in 2018, Rams win the SB vs Patriots that year.

I had not even heard of him, until about a week ago, when all the

talking-heads on a video absolutely raved about him.   They pointed out that he has never had a decent QB throwing to him.   Apparently, one narrative is: he’s another Stafford.   A topnotch player trapped on a bad team.

I liked his game before he was drafted, and wanted the Rams to take him in 2014. Good height, nearly 6’3″, and has NBA-type hops. Not a great 40 time, but had a surprisingly good 10-yard split, 20-yard shuttle, vert and broad. I thought the 40 time had to be an outlier for him, and he’s played like it was.

Very good pick-up for the Rams. Again, this gives them a shot at moving Woods or Jefferson, too. I’m hoping it’s Jefferson, and for  draft pick. I have no idea what that would be. But they need more shots at bringing in young players with upside and rookie contracts, etc.

I felt the same way about Atwell the second they picked him that I did back when they picked Trung.

Rams draft really well overall but it’s interesting that they’re not as strong in the 2nd round as they are on lower round picks. To be honest, I suspect that’s because McV is more involved with round 2 and has a thing he wants when it’s time to pick. I think the “eye for the draft” is more Snead than McV.

I never heard of him, either, but he looked good in that highlight video. Goes over the middle, makes tough catches. I don’t know about YAC or making people miss, but he’s big, and catches the ball. He’s a good player. There’s a part of me waiting for the other shoe to drop, though. And I hope it ain’t Woods.

Kupp, Woods, OBJ, and Robinson is lethal, imo.

He looks kinda  like Kupp the way he plays. He’s faster than he timed and he’s open  even when he’s not. Will fight for the ball unlike Jefferson.

That makes a lot of sense. McVay falls in love with a player, and doesn’t waver, perhaps. Doesn’t listen to the scouts? Snead may follow his scouts more, and finds those hidden gems late.

I wasn’t a fan of the Rapp pick, either. A try-hard guy, but kinda slow. Not exceptional in any one area. Akers worries me now. Saw some article about him that detailed his relative decline thru the Super Bowl, which hit me too while I watched the Big Game. The writer used some Next Gen stats to show his reduced “make ’em miss” plays, as well as fewer broken tackles. He may have come back too soon. If memory serves, he came back roughly six months early?

Hope the off-season gives him a shot at a full recovery. They need him. It was the one “hit” for McVay, if your theory about the 2nd round holds, and it looks solid to me.

Regardless . . . I like the Rams’ chances to repeat, though a lot of teams got significantly better, and they haven’t even drafted yet . . .

I’m not shedding tears for Van Jefferson, if he gets left out. Nice guy, whatever, made some plays, okay. But he hasn’t exactly created a legacy. I want more from that guy, and he can either give it to me, or go play for the Jets, or something.

And Atwell can go join the Hall of Shame along with Trung Canidate, Mike Schad, Greg Robinson, Lawrence Phillips, Wayne Gandy, Jimmy Kennedy, and Bill Hawkins.

i really don’t want the rams to lose bobby, but this makes a little too much sense…  from jourdan rodrigue.

“If we are simply connecting dots, it should be noted that the Minnesota Vikings are also looking to offload pass-rusher Danielle Hunter, because they can’t fit his $18 million roster bonus under their salary cap before a quickly approaching due date. While it’s hard to imagine a captain and beloved leader such as Woods being a trade candidate, the facts that former offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell is now the head coach in Minnesota (and his offensive coordinator is former tight ends coach Wes Phillips) and Woods’ contract clears about $13.5 million with a post-June 1 trade designation, means such a move is something both teams may consider opening dialogue about. Woods is expected to return to full health around that time, after tearing his ACL last November. If the Rams could convert part of Hunter’s salary into a signing bonus (as much as $13.5 million can be converted), and balance that amount out with the space then available via a Woods designation, they could potentially pay sub-$8 million for a top pass-rusher in 2022 after losing out on Miller, when the annual spreadsheet ultimately shakes out.”

He has also been injured 2 seasons in a row, which I don’t think makes him a risk, but it does make him a bit more invisible. In 2020 he was out with a herniated disk. This bit is about 2021:

    from  https://www.vikings.com/news/danielle-hunter-injury-pec-out-2021-season

    Nov 01, 2021

The Vikings defense has suffered a devastating blow, as Minnesota will be without perhaps its best player going forward.

Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer announced Monday that defensive end Danielle Hunter tore a pectoral muscle and will miss the remainder of the 2021 season as he is headed for Injured Reserve.

Hunter, a two-time Pro Bowler, played just 27 snaps in Week 8 against the Cowboys and was injured in the second quarter.

Robert Woods is a ‘prime trade candidate,’ Rams already getting calls

Have not seen any serious speculation regarding what the Rams would get for Woods. If the Rams are offered a 2nd, I take it. They save 7 million on the cap, too. He’s one of my favorite Rams, evah, but I want the Rams to get better, and that extra draft pick could help them at positions of need. The wide receiver room is stacked right now, and there just aren’t enough footballs to go around. So, I trade him, though I wish Jefferson were the guy on the trading block, not Woods.

The talk is that the Rams would trade Woods to Minnesota for a primier pass rusher.

It sounds plausible on paper because the Vikes head coach, O’Connell, was McVay’s O-coordinator last season.

The Vikings: Danielle Hunter, if he’s healthy, would be a great addition to the Rams. He’s another player I wanted the Rams to draft. Exceptional athlete for his size, and he’s been very productive. Will turn 28 in-season, so a three-year contract would be just about right. I’d make that trade, if he checks out. But I don’t want the Rams to give up an additional draft pick in the bargain. Woods for Hunter straight up . . . or find a trade with another team to get another pick.
