    Goff is more mechanical and less resourceful than MS, but then Detroit builds around his strengths plus that great OL. Stafford was always a smart, talented guy who had to learn to carry the Lions year in and year out, and maximize his skills, because most of the time if he couldn’t come through, they had no chance. It’s as if the 75 Rams traded for Archie Manning.

    I was very ready to bury the Rams after their Week One performance against Buffalo, but they’ve bounced back with two solid games, albeit against inferior competition. At a certain point in the early season, most teams look fallible, but you’re trying to choose the teams you trust the most. I trust the Rams more than a lot of the teams in the NFL to figure out a way to keep winning games.

    The Rams bended a little more defensively in Arizona but kept from breaking  thanks to Aaron Donald and the rest of their front seven covering up some secondary issues. Matthew Stafford is getting the key help he needs to work him out of a mini slump, too.

    While the Rams’ offense continues to work out the kinks, Sean McVay’s defense has been tasked with keeping the team on a winning track. They did their job on Sunday in Arizona, holding Kyler Murray and the Cardinals without a touchdown in a 20-12 win. The Cardinals punted on their first four possessions and settled for four field goals as the Rams took control behind touchdowns from Cooper Kupp and Cam Akers. “There are no style points in this game,” McVay said. “But there are ways to play more complete games. That’s what we’re hunting.”

    Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has played well, but the offense as a whole needs to improve. Coach Sean McVay said after the Week 3 victory in Arizona that he thinks the offense is “just continuing to learn our identity.” Stafford, who threw five interceptions in the first two games, did not throw one against the Cardinals, and the offense did enough to win the game. Stafford has thrown just four touchdowns through three weeks. He is playing without wide receiver Van Jefferson, who is on injured reserve, and is continuing to lean on Cooper Kupp, whose target share has increased (35%) from the 2021 season (32%). — Sarah Barshop

    So, the 49ers offense ranks 9th in the NFL when facing zone defense & dead last when facing man coverage. Does Morris adjust accordingly & play man coverage on Monday night or does he help SF out & stick with zone? Something to keep an eye on Monday night.

    Alaric jackson is our best offensive linemen per PFF. Whether that matters or not he passed the eye test vs the cardinals. The good thing about him is he is solid at tackle but needed more at guard. I hope he keeps balling out.

    Sean McVay said the Rams’ rule about extending the football is “only on fourth down” So he called Cam Akers’ fumble “a learning opportunity.” Doesn’t sound too worried about Cam coming off that mistake.

    Gregg Williams, Wade Phillips, Brandon Staley, Raheem Morris, 4-3, 3-4, aggressive blitzing, deep shells, dig them all, Rams have had really good defenses with them all, but kinda makes you wonder if maybe Aaron Donald is the thing here…

    Enjoyed talking to Rams OLB Terrell Lewis during his video conference this morning. He said that besides mindset of enjoying the journey and each day, what’s different for him this year is feeling like he’s been in the best place mentally and physically since he’s been a Ram.

    Rams HC Sean McVay said DB Derion Kendrick is still in the concussion protocol. Early signs are trending in positive direction, McVay said, but can never be too cautious/careful when it comes to following each step of that protocol.

    A few observations from the 45 yard line (behind the Rams bench), row 22:

    The defensive result we all saw was absolutely intentional by Raheem Morris. His plan was to play QB pressure, good run defense, and deep coverage which allows underneath passes all day long. It drove me crazy during the game because the Cardinals had the ball for what seemed like the entire game. They did, however, only score 12 points. So his plan worked but I still don’t like it. If we played just a little tighter in coverage our sack count would skyrocket.

    McVay continues his dominance over the Cardinals. This win makes him 6–0 in his head coaching career at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. At the end of the game Rams fans (who represented strong) we’re doing the “Who’s house? Rams house!“ chant throughout the stadium. Pretty cool.

    I don’t know if you could see it on TV, but TuTu slowed down for a couple of strides on his go route. Stafford threw a great pass. That play should’ve been a touchdown for the good guys. I am sure the coaches were not too happy with him on the sideline after the play.

    The Akers fumble prevented this from being a blowout. He walked right past Coach McVay coming to the sidelines. McVay did not make eye contact with him. He looked pissed. That sucked because Akers was having a really good second half. The old use the pass to set up the run approach worked well in this game.

    I know it’s not new but McVay and his system has a real issue with the play clock. It seemed like the team wasn’t in pre-motion formation until there was only 10-12 seconds left on a vast majority of plays.

    A win is a win in the NFL and we sit alone in 1st place after 3 weeks. I will take it.

    Stafford sacked 7 times in week 1. Twice since..

    Akers/Henderson combined for just 47 yards rushing vs. BUF. But 169 yards in the two games since.

    Higbee”s 24 targets are the most for him over a 3-game stretch since the final 3 games of 2019 (37).

    Early in the season but the Rams are 19th in the league in points differential (-9).

    Rams have yet to reach 350 yards of offense in a game so far. They had less than 350 yards offense 5 times in 21 games last year.

    Rams have 10 TFL through 3 games (3.3/game). They average 5.0/game last year.

    Matt Gay became the 10th Rams’ kicker to have 50+ FG. And his 92.6% FG accuracy is best among any Rams kicker with 50+ attempts.

    According to PFR, the Rams are 31st in the league in QB pressure rate.

    Rams are tied for the 4th fewest penalties in the league (13).

    Jalen Ramsey had two first-half pass breakups, both of which came on third down. Third PBU won’t show up on stat sheet on a long pass to Brown bc of a hold on the OL. Also had a TFL. Rams D held AZ to 22 net yards before a 19-play, 65-yd Q2 drive that ended in a FG.
