    Do I recall some detractor in all these tweets saying that Cooper Kupp doesn’t make contested catches? PFF on that: “He was the only receiver in the league who gained more than 3.0 yards per route run (3.12) and caught over 50% of his contested targets.”

    Plus with Edwards now not certain, they could go into the game with their entire interior OL replaced. That would be an interior OL of Evans Shelton Jackson. At right OG alone, that puts them 4 players away from their superbowl OL at that position: Corbett leaves,  Shelton has to move to center, Anchrum is injured on his first play, Jackson has played one decent game so far. (Plus Bruss is drafted with some buzz about possibly stepping right in at ROG, but then struggles and is injured.) And now Evans may be at LOG, and he wasn’t once considered for ROG–Shelton, Anchrum, and Jackson were all ahead of him in spite Evans being senior to 2 of them.

    And if Evans does play, that puts them 9 players away from their super bowl interior OL: Edwards, Allen, Corbett was the superbowl IOL. Then Shelton changes positions, and injuries get Allen, Anchrum, and Edwards (though with Edwards it could be just one game). Then 2 additional replacements are Jackson and Evans.

    Jalen Ramsey just went on a 15-minute soliloquy about the juxtaposition between league emphasis on player safety and league emphasis on things like fining players for uniform technicalities (like sock height), taunting esp. when players themselves make effort to play game safely.

    “I think they’ll even fine me for this,” he says, reiterating that the league doles out infractions off players who don’t dress accordingly (he adds he’s asked if any issues each week w/ uni and told no), yet publicizes their celebrations/personalities for content/$

    “Player safety is one of the things that should be talked about more. Shit like getting fined for socks – let’s talk about it. … I get fined every week (but) I play the game with integrity, I play the game the right way, I try to make sure people are safe – obviously I want to

    go out there and hurt my opponent, strike fear, but I don’t want to injure nobody – but like, THAT is what the game is about. It’s not about the other B.S. … That’s what it needs to be about. Player safety, how can we protect the players as much as we can.”

    The continued acceleration of Terrell Lewis + potential emergence of Takk McKinley bears monitoring thru October, and ahead of the Nov. 1 deadline IMO. Small sample size so far.

    Aaron Donald also mentioned a great point in that ball is coming out REAL fast so far in the year, so again, small sample size to this point but bears monitoring over this next month

    Was curious about Donald’s comments so dug in a little, “time to throw” metric is an imperfect quantification but league avg is 2.59 seconds and vs Rams is 2.35 seconds per attempt – so that’s just further context for this thread as needed with most things.

    Also this is just one part of the conversation – defense has done a nice job locking down explosives and stats are gonna be situationally a bit weird this time of year with limited sample size. But bc they added McKinley and aren’t shy in the personnel dept always worth watching

    The Rams allowed a four-man rush to dictate their W1 loss in a major way. 49ers like to play them the same way (the Bills ran a lot of 49ers “stuff” against them in fact). In 2021 the 49ers blitzed 21% of the time overall but just 13.2% of the time in three matchups vs. Rams.

    Right now, 49ers have a 43% pressure rate on non-blitzing dropbacks. Big game for an OL playing well last two weeks; big game for Ben Skowronek and probably a game to bring Malcolm Brown up to pass pro.

    Meanwhile, rushing 4 would mean sitting back extra DBs in cloudy zone concepts. Cooper Kupp among best zone-beating WRs in NFL but Rams must unfold option of quicker double zone beaters w/Robinson, Powell, Higbee, Skow if pressure gets going. Big prove-it game for Cam Akers too.

    (Darrell Henderson has been fine albeit Rams run game hasn’t been great so not meaning to exclude him it’s just that Cam needs to build off clear momentum he started feeling last week in a game like this)

    Rams completed air yards / completion – 30th

    According to Pro-Football-Reference, the Rams are averaging 4.5 air yards per completion, which ranks 30th in the NFL. Only the Cardinals and Packers rank lower. Stafford is averaging 6.9 intended air yards per completion (all passes, not just completed ones) and that is tied with Josh Allen for 21st.

    Stafford has been blitzed 17 times—that’s second-fewest blitzes faced in the NFL. Justin Fields has only been blitzed nine times.

    The Rams are one of two teams, along with the Falcons, to have no broken tackles on runs this season. By comparison, the Bears lead the league with 15. The Rams only have one broken tackle on receptions also—only the Seahawks and Jaguars have zero.</p>

    By this metric, the Rams are slightly above average in EPA (estimated points added) on third and fourth down, but well below average on first and second downs. This lines up with Stafford’s splits: He has a 78.2 passer rating on first down, 68.2 on second down, and 125.3 on third down. He has thrown all five of his interceptions on early downs.
