from PFF, Ranking the NFL’s most productive rookie classes from 2024: https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-ranking-most-productive-rookie-classes-2024?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=dhtwitter&utm_content=null

    1. Los Angeles Rams

    Snaps Played: 7,649
    PFF WAR: 0.68

Jared Verse, the Rams’ first first-round pick in eight years paid off right away, slotting sixth in PFF overall grade among qualified edge rushers en route to winning Defensive Rookie of the Year. Beyond Verse, Los Angeles set a strong defensive foundation with Braden Fiske (59 pressures), Kam Kinchens (73.7 PFF coverage grade) and Omar Speights (77.6 PFF run-defense grade), all of whom project to start again in 2025. Offensively, Jordan Whittington (78.9 PFF receiving grade) and Beaux Limmer (1,040 snaps) offered supplementary contributions.

Les Snead was on the @heykayadams show yesterday and hinted at trading back into the pick 33-36 range (early round 2). Seems like the most likely outcome.

    but what does that mean?

I think it means that in a deep draft full of good but more or less equally graded players, your better bet is to get more of them.

Once the draft gets past picks 20, the value between the 20th overall pick and the 60th overall pick are generally seen as the same.

As noted by ESPN’s Matt Miller,

“There are four, maybe five, blue-chip players,” one NFL general manager said. “After that, it’s 40 guys with a late-first-round or second-round grade.” Scouts view the 2025 class as light on future All-Pros but strong on starters. “You’re going to see a ton of rookie starters from this class because it’s such an experienced group,” an AFC South area scout said. Though the class appears to lack high-end, can’t-miss prospects seen as future stars it has fewer players ranked high based purely on potential. As an AFC East area scout put it: “Player No. 15 on your board might have the same grade as No. 50.”

The last time the Rams had back-to-back 1st round picks in consecutive years? Todd Gurley and Jared Goff.

We don’t really know their cap yet though because we don’t know Stafford’s contract numbers yet.

    from Rodrigue, https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6244757/2025/03/31/rams-kyren-williams-contract-les-snead-owners-meetings/

    • Snead said the Rams have yet to “execute the paperwork” on Stafford’s adjusted contract, the terms of which he agreed to last month. He declined to clarify the specific terms of the deal, though it is believed to have a similar structure as last year’s adjustment that moved future money into the current season. The contract was adjusted under its existing years — through 2026 — and was referred to as a “vow renewal” in previous comments by Snead. McVay said the Rams plan to revisit the terms each offseason with Stafford as he decides how long he wants to keep playing.

“It’ll be done very soon,” said Pastoors, who also declined to clarify the terms. “But we feel good about it, he feels good about it. We’re getting through paperwork right now.”

Pastoors added that the understanding the Rams will again revisit Stafford’s contract with him in 2026 is a “good problem to have.”

This means Rams have about $18 mil in cap space and it will not go up June 1st…

how much of that goes to rookies?

    About 10 M?

We don’t really know their cap yet though because we don’t know Stafford’s contract numbers yet.

Plus they’re working on extending Kyren.

Les Snead confirmed the Rams signed Coleman Shelton to be their starting center, which will relegate Beaux Limmer to a backup role after a strong rookie year

    Blaine Grisak@bgrisakTST
Les Snead mentioned that the Rams signed Coleman Shelton to be their starting center.

Hopefully there is at least a camp competition. Limmer offers so much more athleticism/size inside. He allowed fewer pressures than Shelton after being thrown in midseason.

Me note: It’s the cerebral stuff, adjustments and communication issues. Competition gives Limmer a chance to learn all that.

I just finished my mock 3.0 … and I can safely say that since the 2015 draft, this might be the toughest year to piece together where players could go. Very wide variances for some players.

So, sounds like Kupp was not a June 1st cut:

“Pastoors confirmed that the Rams will take on $22.26 million in dead money in 2025 from releasing Kupp, but said he is off their books in 2026.”

This means Rams have about $18 mil in cap space and it will not go up June 1st…

    from https://ramblinfan.com/2-nfl-experts-dissect-rams-draft-needs-and-project-rams-draft-strategy-01jqhn49ybqw

ESPN NFL Analyst Mina Kimes and former PFF NFL analyst Sam Monson will dip and weave throughout their draft analysis of every NFL team….

Perhaps one of the earliest takeaways from their analysis is the fact that they view the Rams ‘needs’ as limited to an inside linebacker (to pair with starting ILB Omar Speights) and a cornerback. They also mention some choices the team could address in the draft at tight end, quarterback, and offensive tackle,

Sam Monson chimes in with the oxymoron nature of the Rams drafting an inside linebacker. The Rams have been viewed as a team in need of an inside linebacker in almost every season led by HC Sean McVay. The only linebacker drafted by the team was former South Carolina ILB prospect Ernest Jones IV, who competed for the Rams for three of his first four seasons.

Too bad Bradford got hurt in Carolina and again in Cleveland…, Fisher could’ve been a contender.

Fisher wasn’t McVay, and there was always something a little (I dunno, for lack of a better word) “greasy” about him, but to be fair and objective, he would have done better than he did from 2012-2015 if he had both a healthy qb and a healthy OL at the same time for more games than he did. 2016 was just a mess though.

Right now the Rams can draft, they have the qb, McV is wired in both at the Xs and Os level and the culture building level–how far he goes is all a matter of team health. As long as they have a qb.

Vermeil though did build a team from nuthin. So I don’t know who I put at #1/#2.

This draft is loaded with players from No. 19-70 who will be good players. It only has a few sure-fire stars. Trading down makes sense.

Friday was an enormous day in courts across America, as a series of crucial rulings were delivered against the Trump regime.

Federal judges blocked the administration from shutting down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, halted the deportation of PhD student Rumeysa Ozturk, froze orders targeting a pair of law firms, stopped Trump’s attempt to shut down Voice of America, and extended the order preventing Trump from using the Alien Enemies Act to deport people.

    from https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5220124-elon-musk-voters-wisconsin-ben-wikler/

Ben Wikler, chair of the Democratic Party in Wisconsin, said it’s illegal for Elon Musk to cut $1 million paychecks for voters who support Brad Schimel, a Republican candidate for the state’s Supreme Court.

“Elon Musk has committed a blatant felony by offering money for votes in order to help Brad Schimel,” Wikler said in a Friday statement.

“Musk’s illegal election bribery scheme to put Brad Schimel on the Supreme Court is a chainsaw attack on democracy and the rule of law in Wisconsin and our nation.”

The tech giant deleted his early Friday post outlining plans to travel to Wisconsin to personally deliver funds.

“On Sunday night, I will give a talk in Wisconsin. Entrance is limited to those who have voted in the Supreme Court election,” Musk said in a post on the social platform X, which has now been taken down.

“I will also personally hand over two checks for a million dollars each in appreciation for you taking the time to vote. This is super important,” he added.

Later in the day, he clarified the earlier post to say he would pay spokespeople $1 million to support Schimel.

from Poona Ford: Playing for Sean McVay was ‘a big part of my decision’ to sign with Ramshttps://theramswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/rams/2025/03/28/nfl-free-agency-poona-ford-rams-sean-mcvay-signing-decision/82702585007/?taid=67e6a5c0b3e1fe0001533eea&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter

One of the determining factors in his decision was McVay himself. Having seen the job McVay did with the Rams over the years, Ford knew he wanted to play for him. Ford got that chance in free agency, signing a three-year, $27.6 million contract with the Rams this offseason.

“The coaching staff is phenomenal,” Ford said, via WTOC. “I’ve always been a fan of Coach McVay from my years in Seattle watching what he’s done over there and how he’s run his program. It’s been a big part of my decision.”

He could see himself playing for McVay at some point and seems excited to finally have that opportunity.

“I always watched him from a distance,” Ford said recently. “Being in Seattle, and playing against him twice a year, I always knew he was a guy that I could see myself playing for at some point.”

I think OTC is scoring it right if Kupp is not a June 1st cut. They’ve dumped his salary and are using the full dead cap number. Doing it that way, Rams have about $20 mil in cap space.

I don’t know if that’s right, but if it is, the point would be to take on dead money in 2025 and have no dead money in 2026.

With Stafford, i think they’ve agreed in principle but haven’t actually done the deal so who knows when we see those numbers? And if the deal adds to the cap, maybe they wait, what’s the rush?

Scroll back through preceding years, and they didn’t hit on all 3.

I think something happened after 2022…the Rams not only changed the offense and OL strategies, I think they re-assessed personnel and drafting. Anyway there were subtle signs of “re-appraisal” going on. That may be a McVay thing–now and then stepping back, re-appraising, looking to improve this or that approach to one thing or another.
