April 25, 2017 at 11:56 am in reply to: American Airlines flight attendant 'whacks a mother in the head with a metal str #67792snowmanParticipant
True story. We flew American on a family vacation to Puerto Vallarta about ten years ago. My son was four at the time and has asthma, and was starting to catch a cold. he was kind of fussy on the plane, NOT kicking the seat in front of him, not crying too much, but did need extra attention from mom and me. A flight attendant got annoyed with my son, and in an attempt to make us settle him down, she threatened to have him arrested for ‘disrupting the aircraft’.
A four year old boy.
I was speechless.

April 21, 2017 at 1:27 pm in reply to: How will the Rams approach this draft? ideas, hopes, insights #67672snowmanParticipantWith a few exceptions, the Rams really should pick the best available player all the way through the draft. I don’t know what we have in Higbee, so I don’t know if TE is a position of need to the same degree as WR. Besides center, the interior O Line with Havenstein and Donnal and Wichman plus Saffold and Robinson moving inside, we might be just fine there. Don’t be seduced by ‘athleticism’, draft productive players from division 1 programs (sorry JPMiller) with no off field issues.
I would be fine seeing the first three picks going WR, Center, Safety, CB or OLB.

The Rams have added another piece to their offensive line. The league’s daily transaction report brings word that the team has claimed guard Tre’ Jackson off of waivers. The Patriots waived their 2015 third-round pick on Wednesday.
(me: Jackson was actually a fourth round pick, not third)
The Rams have shuffled some of the players on their offensive line under new coach Sean McVay and one of the moves has last year’s right tackle Rob Havenstein moving to right guard. Jackson, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, made nine starts for the Patriots as a rookie and could compete with Havenstein for the spot opposite left guard Rodger Saffold.
The Rams also waived defensive back Kevin Short. He was signed to the team’s practice squad last December and has never played in a regular season game.

snowmanParticipantNot sure how I feel. Or if I even care about his death. I just hope the jury got it right in the double murder trial for the sake of the victim’s families because it’s over now.
April 18, 2017 at 8:48 am in reply to: Atlanta Braves' New Stadium Is a Disaster for Taxpayers and Fans #67595snowmanParticipantWell, one county commissioner cannot deliver public funds for a stadium in a secret deal as described here. Counties where I work can only spend money like this by resolution and majority vote among the Board at an open meeting. They may have absolved themselves of taking public comment or giving more than a week’s notice of the board action, but this deal took more than just one commissioner.
April 17, 2017 at 3:47 pm in reply to: Hortiz top choice for Rams college scouting director? (update: or, …not) #67569snowmanParticipantRavens front office has a number of people with longevity inth e organization.
Eric Decosta is the assistant GM, 18 years. Was the director of college scouting for six years before Hortiz.
Pat Moriarty is the VP of football operation, or cap guy. 23 years.
Vincent Newsome, 21 years. Currently the director of pro scouting.
Jessica Markinson, director of football administration, 21 years.
George Kokinis, senior personnel assistant, 21 years with the Ravens in three different stints.etc…
So while Hortiz’ tenure in Baltimore is impressive, it is not unprecedented.
snowmanParticipantI would hope/expect the Rams to draft the best available DB, OL, WR with their first three picks. Maybe filling one position more than once. Linebackers late on day three.
snowmanParticipantHow have we survived as a human race …
snowmanParticipantHaving said that, I agree with your point about trading Gurley for Gordon.
Sheeesh! I thought I was clear that the Rams should SELL Todd Gurley. LOL!
snowmanParticipantFeels like a bit of an insult to the current roster of players. It would be interesting to hear from McVay whether he thinks the on-field staff needs three years to coach up this team and whatever new players come along in the next couple of years. Will the head coach say ‘we are three years away’ before training camp even opens? Hell no. Maybe Snead is making excuses for his mediocre draft classes and is trying to sell this as a three year work in progress?
snowmanParticipantCBs Kevin King and Gareon Conley both ranked in the mid 40s, but I have seen several mocks with both of them going in the high to mid first round. I don’t think either one will be available when the Rams pick.
snowmanParticipantGood, Sullivan can be a very good short-term fix at center.
His track record in Minnesota is more important to me than his one year connection to McVay. He started only one game in Washington …
snowmanParticipantThe Rams and Raiders have made two moves in and out of LA in the last 15/20 years, so I’m not upset about another move for the Raiders. The Chargers move did surprise me because I have always known them as the San Diego Chargers. I was surprised when the league expanded into Jacksonville. That still looks weird to me.
March 22, 2017 at 4:54 pm in reply to: Billy asked about "Iron Fist". What other shows are you watching? #66600snowmanParticipantAt my house, we watch what my wife wants to watch. I rarely get my hands on the remote until 9:00 pm on weekdays or on Sundays afternoon during Football season.
One show that we have mutual interest in is Survivor. I think it would be a great model to use in place of our process to nominate candidates for president.
Two others I truly like courtesy of Netflix:
Stranger Things
Taboo
snowmanParticipantFWIW, the my friends on Facebook who simply had to add their two cents to the whole Kaepernick thing felt he was being disrespectful to the US military. Some of them served, some of them had/have family members who served, others just like to wrap themselves in the flag and call attention to it on social media. They could not see beyond that.
snowmanParticipantInnocent people always get killed and injured in war. It’s unavoidable, which makes war something that just should not be an option outside of self defense.
I did not know the history of Syngman Rhee. We have a bad track record of backing ruthless dictators as opposition to Communism.
snowmanParticipantI posted about Sullivan in another thread. He has essentially had two years off, recovering from surgery and being used sparingly in Washington. He started 93 consecutive games for the Vikings from 2008-2014, succeeding All-Pro Matt Birk. Sullivan would be a quality short-term center for us. I hope he signs; he played for a paltry $885,000 last year.
March 14, 2017 at 1:58 pm in reply to: will the Bills match the Rams offer to Groy? Turns out…yes (updated 3/16) #66279snowmanParticipantGroy may have more value to the Bills than we think if he can backup both guard and center. Even if the Bills decline to match, I hope we draft a center somewhere in rounds 4 – 6 and develop him for the long term.
snowmanParticipantI don’t know what to expect and trades are really hard to predict, but here are a few FAs that I am familiar with and would be happy if the Rams signed them.
WR Cordarrelle Patterson. Former 1st rounder is a good kick returner and was developing into a good receiver. Big, pretty fast and a little shifty, only 26 years old. Should not cost too much as he was not tendered and was only a part time starter in Minnesota.
C John Sullivan. Former starter in Minnesota, was a surprise cut during a year ago. Played last year with Washington as a backup. He won’t hurt us at the position until a draft pick or one of the guards is groomed and ready to take over.
CB Deshawn Shead. Played well in starting role last year for the Seahawks having 14 pass defenses, but injured his knee during the playoffs. He is a medical risk but at 28 years old he could be a solid corner for a few years assuming he recovers.
S TJ McDonald. I hope the Rams resign him. He is a good hitter and decent pass defender.
K Greg Zuerlein. Resign ‘The Leg’ too.March 13, 2017 at 1:25 pm in reply to: Why the poorest county in West Virginia has faith in Donald Trump #66226snowmanParticipantThere is one problem you right wingers always overlook in your bootstrap theory…
How can the poor get bootstraps to lift themselves up if they can’t afford bootstraps?
Thus the cycle of poverty continues…
They used to make bootstraps in America, but not anymore…
March 10, 2017 at 3:57 pm in reply to: Rams cut Barnes, Sims, & Kendricks & trade Hayes…also Watts & Mason #66129snowmanParticipantthey’ve got four picks in the first four rounds.
Then they are clearing cap space to get the other things through free agency. AND they have nearly a dozen LBs plus DE-to-LB conversion candidates on the roster.
IMO and just IMO, naturally, but (so far) I don’t see big problems. To me this is all do-able.
..
I agree. All the players cut or traded in this thread are easily replaceable with players already on the roster, through the draft or the rest of free agency. More cap space means another move or two is coming, looking forward to what it might be. I do notice that the Rams are completely out of Tre(y)s and that has to be addressed.
snowmanParticipantAggregate spending tells one story, per capita defense spending tells another. Or defense spending compared to other parts of the federal budget for transportation, conservation, etc…
What is striking to me is the comparison to China. I would think their defense spending would be much larger, though who knows what the real number is for them.
Our defense spending is obscene but people don’t really question it because we are told this money has to be spent to keep us safe.
snowmanParticipantTruJo is not the best corner in the NFL so he does not deserve the highest salary, even for one year. I hope they do trade him, and I would take a third rounder. That’s where he was drafted, I would take that to avoid paying overpaying him with the franchise tender and then losing him next year for a third round compensation pick that will be later in the same round the following year.
snowmanParticipantMcVay is in a tough spot in the draft. No first round pick and no comp pick at the end of the third round. Hard to get your guys in the draft and make an impact when you lose picks like that.
snowmanParticipantThey should find a way to incorporate leg warmers into the new pants for a truly retro look.
snowmanParticipantTransition year for the team, they are highly unlikely to be competitive this coming season, so why spend $16 million on an above average corner for just one season? It doesn’t make sense to me.
Especially if we can bring in a #1wr with that money. Oh well I guess it’s already a done deal they’re going to tag him. Snow we’re going to have to work on your handle , I’ve seen more snow in my fridge than outside!
Hey! We got a couple of inches! (that’s what she said) And it’s melting already…
March 1, 2017 at 1:33 pm in reply to: Trump to increase military spending, major cuts to federal agencies #65706snowmanParticipantTrump noted that the country faces an urgent infrastructure problem, which he promised during the campaign that he would address with a $1 trillion infrastructure spending plan. Although the administration has not yet outlined whether infrastructure will be part of Trump’s budget proposal, the president spoke about it at length before a gathering of governors at the White House on Monday.

I work for a local government that develops big urban transit investments. Our lobbyist in DC told us that Trump is considering eliminating the Federal Transit Administration, which is the source of half the funding for construction of urban transit systems, not to mention repair and maintenance of existing transit systems.I don’t know how accurate this information is, but if it happens, it would be devastating for public transportation across the country.
snowmanParticipantMark Barron was athletic, Jason Smith was athletic. I don’t know how much this guy knows about Greg Robinson but I hope he’s right.
