Hearing a very strong buzz that long-time Ravens scout/exec Joe Hortiz is top choice become Rams college scouting director after the draft.

Rams reshuffling scouting department and informed those w/expiring contracts they won’t be back. They tried to interview Hortiz in past…

They’ll pursue Hortiz, who has been w/BAL since ’98 and has been college scouting director last 7 years, and Ravens can’t block a move now.

That doesn’t mean Hortiz would have to accept any offer from Rams, but I’d be very surprised if they don’t make a real effort to get him

Rams Re-Shuffling Scouting Department: Targeting Ravens Joe Hortiz

Will a new scouting department fix the Rams’ draft woes?
    by Sosa Kremenjas@SosaNFLDraft Apr 17, 2017, 12:59pm CDT

According to Jason La Canfora, here is a series of tweets with the Los Angeles Rams’ intention to fix their scouting department after letting multiple scouts go just a week ago:

Like Canfora said, Hortiz has been with the Ravens for over two decades now, which is very impressive. The Rams would be smart to look at one of the best front offices in the league, particularly under Ozzie Newsome’s tutelage. If Hortiz can bring anything of similar talent to Los Angeles, that’d be a massive steal.

According to the Ravens official site, Hortiz is responsible for: “Hortiz is responsible for all aspects of the college process, coordinating the schedules and cross-checking duties of the area and regional scouts. Hortiz also manages the team’s draft preparation and the evaluation and ranking process of hundreds of NFL draft-eligible prospects.”

For a guy who started in Baltimore as a personal assistant, and to work his way all the way to director of college scouting is extremely impressive. Hortiz is absolutely in play for Les Snead and the Rams, who are looking to add new talent to their front office.

Ravens front office has a number of people with longevity inth e organization.

Eric Decosta is the assistant GM, 18 years. Was the director of college scouting for six years before Hortiz.
Pat Moriarty is the VP of football operation, or cap guy. 23 years.
Vincent Newsome, 21 years. Currently the director of pro scouting.
Jessica Markinson, director of football administration, 21 years.
George Kokinis, senior personnel assistant, 21 years with the Ravens in three different stints.

    etc…

So while Hortiz’ tenure in Baltimore is impressive, it is not unprecedented.

Any word on scouting department hirings?! And what about #Ravens director of college scouting Joe Hortiz?! #Rams

The Rams have not announced any scouting department hires.

Last month, the Rams informed Ran Carthon, director of pro personnel, and scouts Evan Ardoin, Danton Barto and Sean Gustus that their contracts would not renewed.

Joe Hortiz is the Baltimore Ravens’ director of college scouting and has been with that organization since 1998. He is expected to be among those getting consideration by the Rams.

    Ah but.

    Update.

Ravens longtime director of college scouting Joe Hortiz will stay with Baltimore. Was being wooed by the Rams.
