I didn’t go to that much effort before coming to the same conclusion. I just looked at the standings and saw that the Rams lost head-to-head to a bunch of the teams ahead of them in the standings, and saw the difference in wins/losses, and realized the odds are quite remote.

And that’s without even considering the odds of the Rams ending the regular season on a 7-game winning streak with the last game in notorious Seattle where the Hawks will certainly have something on the line.

    It isn’t happening.

I’m very sorry, Zooey–but if you don’t put it through the playoff machine it isn’t real. Those are simply your opinions. I have hard data. I have charts and stuff. And there is always the famous PA Ram “hunch”. I am bringing real solid stuff to the table here—and if anyone wants stock tips I can find some internet thing to help me pick those too.

This is not the 1970s anymore.

I can go onto the internet and take scientific polls that will tell me what kind of rock band I am.

It’s all there in this crazy cyberspace thing. Before that all we had was the Magic 8 Ball.

But anyway–yeah–I agree with you. Playoffs are a fantasy. But a winning season?

    Very possible.

And that would be pretty cool.

People have been talking about that hit at work. That was probably the hit of the year. I’m glad Sanders wasn’t seriously injured but man…what a hit. There you are, a wide receiver…laying out for the ball–all attention focused on that pigskin and WHAM! A train hits you.

I don’t see how these guys do it.

How does that not make him a little gun-shy next time?

I want him back. He’s been a good citizen, a good teammate(seems to have helped Quick)and a solid player.

    Yes.

If I was the Rams, I’d be drafting a QB somewhere every year until they have a long term answer. I don’t want to see the Rams repeat the 70s: a great defense held back by a limited QB.

    Uggh….70’s hell.

That search for a QB never ended.

    One word: Namath

In the twilight of his career, Namath was waived by the Jets to facilitate his move to the Los Angeles Rams when a trade could not be worked out. He was signed by the Rams on May 12, 1977. Namath hoped to revitalize his career, but by this point his effectiveness as a quarterback was greatly reduced by his knee injuries, a bad hamstring, and the general ravages of a long period of time playing professional football, as well as his “hard and fast” lifestyle. After playing well in a 2–1 start, Namath took a beating on a cold, windy, and rainy Monday night game in a one-point loss at the Chicago Bears, throwing two interceptions, with another being nullified by a penalty,[19] and was through for the regular season.

He did not play again, but redemption and a Hollywood ending was there for the taking. After a disastrous three quarters of turnovers and only trailing by seven points in the opening round of the playoffs, head coach Chuck Knox seemed ready to pull Pat Haden and insert Namath. Rams assistant coach Kay Stephenson said Namath looked great warming-up in the third quarter and advised Knox to put him in. The television audience was on the edge of their seats as it appeared Namath would replace Pat Haden and save the Rams’ season. But Knox hesitated. Haden’s problems continued and the Rams lost to the Vikings by a score of 14–7 in a sea of mud at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Namath retired from the Rams after a single season.

Maybe we can get Manning or Brady in 6 more years or so.

I hated having that black hole of a space on this team and it continued until Everett arrived. And then we fell back into it until Warner arrived. And now…who is the next ONE?

    He’s out there. Somewhere.

I worry more about the Chargers defense. It may be tough to get points. It may look a lot like last week’s game–a key field goal here and there, a touchdown, a well-managed game. Low scoring. They will have to avoid mistakes and penalties. And they will need the refs to actually call holding as they did this week against Denver.

If that comes together there is no reason the Rams can’t beat the Chargers. They are very beatable. Yes–I worry about Gates. But a QB with sore ribs is going to be an issue for them.

Still, the Rams will have to find points from somewhere.

But they can win this game.

    Rivers is playing hurt.

Bad ribs or some such thing. He’s a tough guy but if the Rams hit him and hit him?

Yes–the Rams CAN win this game.

But as a Rams fan I know that what you see this week may not look like next week. I HOPE they win. But I’m not making any bold prediction.

Rams held Manning to 6th-lowest points per drive (0.58) game of his career. That’s 273 starts. 7 points on 12 drives.

Hill looked good but when you hold the Denver Broncos to 7pts everything starts to look better! Tre Mason busting out into triple digit yardage.Safety’s knocking people out of the game week after week.It looked to be a much improved OL Hill had plenty of time and made good decisions and showed toughness when GRob turned Ware loose for a vicious sack fumble he was fortunate the ball bounced right back to him

Robinson did have that one screw up but overall he played fantastic and I’ll take him over Jake Long.

I have no complaints with the line today–they gave Hill enough time and were able to run the ball.

This was a true team win.

I can’t remember when I enjoyed a Rams game so much.

    Very solid football.

Rams D was everything I wanted them to be.

    Hill was fantastic. Well managed.

    Game balls all around.

Would Snisher draft Winston if available either by trade or with their pick outright?

If they are picking in the top 3 I say maybe.

But they won’t give up much to move up. They’ll sit there and take another guy or wait until round #2.

In terms of football talent–I’m not sure there’s much dispute that he’s the best fit for the NFL with the highest potential of the possible draftees.

On the maturity scale he’s possibly undraftable.

It’s going to be very interesting how teams view this and how it affects his draft status.

I’d be surprised if he fell past #3. Talent usually wins out. Of course he still has time to pull some other boneheaded stunts.

Please, wv—I am trying to use hard numbers and cold calculating logic in my analysis of Sunday’s game. Football games are not decided on “feelings”. Peyton may indeed be the best REGULAR season QB of all time but remember one thing: He has to face Shaun Hill this week. That’s as close as it gets to playoff pressure. Don’t forget what happened in the Manning/Brady match-up

I am confident and cocky about it this week.

Manning can’t throw from his back.

Okay–in my work pool I took the Rams to beat the Broncos this week. Nothing but a hunch. Maybe nothing but wishful thinking. But that’s the pick I made–and I loudly boasted about making it. I am not afraid to make such bold proclamations because come Monday I’ll look like a genius.

Or a moron. Either way…that’s my pick.

I think Denver should play it safe and rest Peyton Manning.

I’ve noticed he has a fatigue injury sort of thing or tired eyes or heavy perspiration or foot fungus or needs a haircut or some such thing. I’m sure the best thing would be for him to sit out the Rams game.

This is purely in the interest of player safety.

    That is all.

By the way, there is a loud YAWN coming out of Vegas about all of this.

Rams opened as an 8 point dog and now it’s up to 9 1/2 to 10.

So if the Rams aren’t blown out this week it’s at least a moral victory.

    He was obviously getting worse.

I had some hope that he might be able to have that magic “click” moment where he could process things a little faster, hit the checkdowns, spot the blitzes, move out of the pressure to get enough space to make a play.

But his eyes were getting wider and he was seeing less.

He’s a young guy, and I don’t know if he will be able to ever step up or if he’s going to be the journeyman back-up guy but time will tell. Not everyone can do it. Everyone talks about the physical aspects of the job but if a guy doesn’t have the mental ability to somehow slow the game down and keep his head straight and have the awareness, it doesn’t matter what physical tools he as going for him.

It doesn’t appear he was going to be able to overcome this while under fire.

Maybe stepping back really will help to make a difference for him.

And he didn’t get that sense the week before? Most of us did.

I doubt the grumbling from vets just began this week. And with a good coach it doesn’t take grumbling veterans to point out the need for a move as obvious as the Davis one was.

Sorry, Man. I don’t mean to be contentious with my friends here.

But that man is the walking definition of failure right now. He can’t even figure out how to give his team a CHANCE of winning!

    Yeah–I have no idea, really.

Fisher is obviously thinking differently than he’s talking about things.

Maybe(and I’m just throwing stuff out there)he was thinking of pulling Davis if he struggled this week but decided it was better to have Hill prepared(taking the snaps, etc.) so that HE didn’t look awful out there. What a mess that would be.

But only Fisher knows what he was thinking.

In any case–it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Sounds bad PA. But was it one of those “hurts like you would not believe” hyper-extension things?

I never had a hyperextended knee so I can’t compare pain. Compared to my kidney stones, the stones were worse but it was two different things. The knee thing was frustrating. You’re going through life and every so often someone is going to stick something sharp into you–but you don’t know when. It’s a weird mental thing.

It’s a strange feeling, like your knee doesn’t want to work anymore.

I was walking with my leg straight a lot–a limp.

Anyway–it’s okay now. Fingers crossed. And the thing is, this sort of thing can just happen. I didn’t really DO anything to my knee.

So Bradford merely needs to walk on the field next year and he can crumble? Is that what you’re saying?

I not only have to hold my breath when he’s hit but when he takes an awkward step? How much breath do you think I have?

Well, let’s hope for the best–because they need him to come back invincible.

    And now–my knee story:

5oth birthday…I walk down the stairs, take a step into the living room and suddenly sharp pain in my knee, into my thigh.

My knee felt like it sort of could have locked the wrong way, I don’t know.

Anyway..I could take a step, two steps, three steps, four steps and suddenly without warning there it is…boom!

Turns out that my knee was not “tracking” properly. Don’t know why or what set that off but it really sucked because I became scared to walk. It was like Russian Roulette with my knee. That step’s okay, that ones okay…boom!

The doctor told me that that problem was usually taken care of with physical therapy. I didn’t believe it. But I gotta say–it worked. But the mental part of it was weird for me…worried about each step.

Bradford obviously has a much worse situation but I have to wonder if the mental part isn’t just as difficult as the physical part.

Hopefully he can come back because I see no other great options.

I’ll always care to one degree or another. I may pay more attention some seasons but I will always pay some attention.

I find comfort in knowing I DID live to see them win a ring.

It may be the ONLY one but..eh. I take pride in being the fan of a lousy team. I get to the point of laughing about it.

The Rams team–the horns feel like part of my identity. When people I know think of a Rams fan–I’m it. When they see the team or read about them they think of me. I have too much history. I’ll always be there.

    I’ll always have hope.

Apart from dumping the ball off short, Davis can do one thing. He can throw high balls to really tall receivers. Quick. Cook. Britt.

So next year we bring back Davis but get taller receivers. Let’s check the college ranks for basketball centers not good enough for the NBA. If Davis had 7 foot tall receivers–he’d look like Peyton Manning.

Just kidding, RFL. I see the same thing. It’s bad when you throw too high for even tall receivers like Britt.

Speaking of wide receivers–what the heck happened to Stedman Bailey?

He’s become the invisible man. I don’t get it. Clearly he has talent.

As for wins–I can see them winning 3 more games. They can certainly beat Washington, Oakland and the Giants. Maybe they steal another game. So despite it all, they could still end up with 6 or 7 wins. Pop the champagne.

    Hill doesn’t excite me either.

But I sort of have a “whatever” attitude at this point. Hey–it can’t hurt. Let’s compare what Hill does to what Davis did. If nothing else it’s a back-up competition for next year(although I doubt Hill will be back anyway). I’m more concerned about what happens AFTER this year. There are no good options unless they find a hidden gem in the draft.

This feels like the Dieter Brock era, or the Toney Banks era. They just don’t have good options at the most important position on the field. And for the record, I’m not comparing a healthy Bradford to those two guys–but he’s not healthy.

Here’s a list of FA quarterbacks for 2015.

    http://www.spotrac.com/free-agents/nfl/quarterback/

    The best?

    Brian Hoyer

    Mark Sanchez

    Michael Vick

    Colt McCoy

Other than that? It’s a bunch of guys.

That’s what we’re looking at–that and the draft.

Here are some QBs in the draft:

    http://walterfootball.com/draft2015QB.php

After Winston and Mariotta, I’m not sure who there really is.

    Crap shoot.

    Then there is Bradford.

So that’s what 2015 looks like–unless some sort of trade comes into play.
