To me, one of the big questions is…what are the big questions heading into the season?

    What else?

Just in general, can they ‘come together’ as a
    team in Year 3
and make clutch plays on offense and defense
    to win close games.

Ya know. Can the defense finally start making
the big Clutch plays on third down.

Can the offense finally start making the
big clutch plays on third down.

Obviously there are a gazillion sub-issues
that go into those two general topics (Bradford,
    OLine, Secondary, Shottenheimer, WRs, etc)
but in general i want to see a team
that makes big plays on Third Down
    on offense and defense.

    I have 2 big questions.

    1. Do we have the personnel to play the 2ndary?

    2. Can the coaching staff lift this talented team over the hump?

For me, #2 is THE question of questions. #1 gets answered in large part by #2. Williams needs to turn lots of mostly young talent into an elite defense.

I think most of us agree that we must become a synergy. I guess that’s always true.

But the coaching staff is the key to that. Fisher has APPEARED to be a special coach … but has not QUITE gotten over the hump himself. When he came to us he talked about teaching the team to win, and damn if he didn’t do that. Last year, not so much. He HAS to make a difference this year to rise above the challenges of the division and schedule.

So, for me, those are the question marks. And they are GENUINE question marks. I honestly don’t know if our DBs, DC, or HC are enough to lift us.

I’m comfortable with the rest of the team.

By virtue of the absurd ...

For me, it’s all about the secondary. I have warm fuzzy feelings everywhere else, even about the depth everywhere except the secondary. Last year it was a clear weakness that teams exploited.

Fewer penalties, fewer turnovers. And yeah, what WV said, for the love of God someone please make a play on 3rd down.

    1). Secondary

    2). Receivers

    3). Bradford

Don’t really have any pressing questions regarding what Bradford is capable of, I think I saw enough good last year. Really boils down to whether or not he can last an entire season, health wise, and can he lead the Rams into the post season.

There are some unit and personnel issues but I do think their staff and overcome those with what they have on board. So, my thing is can they finally overcome their youth? They have a lot of young talented guys. Can they grow up and come together with a purpose? Those are my questions. Can they collectively play to win all their games regardless of where their snooker ball sits, adversity, injuries or any other unknown surprises?

These are my questions – beside what to cook for game day week 1. I’m open to suggestions. I only have two months or so to come up with a suitable menu.

I suggest the Jack Youngblood recipe but the Gino Cappelletti recipe looks interesting too :

    St. Louis Rams

    player: Jack Youngblood
    recipe: Kahlúa Cake

Hall of Fame defensive end Youngblood (1971–84), known as “The John Wayne of football,” once finished the playoffs on a cracked leg. The all-time great requests this dessert from his wife, Barb, on all special occasions. If he’s lucky, he even gets to lick the batter bowl!

my biggest question is can bradford stay healthy for an entire season? if he can, i think the rams give the niners and seahawks some major problems.

On the secondary I have confidence they can and will with GW give our ferocious DL that extra second they need, they will wreak havoc! just about every defensive draft pick known for their ability to blitz. My questions are will Long get back to pro bowl level after surgery . Will the OL be elite? When you watch some of that old footage Bradford is a great play action QB. Our OL fulfills it’s promise with Quick and Britt’s physical blocking on the outside these guys could well
    be unstoppable.

ER: if our OL fulfills it’s promise with Quick and Britt’s physical blocking on the outside these guys could well be unstoppable.

I do get the sense this offense could be very tough. I just don’t know yet how efficient it will be (meaning will they execute at a consistently good level).

I agree execution is a question but the smash mouth physical style can cover some mistakes . Also 3rd year in Shottie’s system so execution should be better. The safeties get to cheatin up too much worried about getting trucked by Stacy and Bradford snatches the ball out of Stacy’s belly and hucks it to
Britt, scary for them. Mason will apply stress as well.

Hi ER. Either you meant Austin, not Mason, or you are making a joke about ex-Titans receivers?

So the Rams have Cook, Britt, and a Still Undead Derrick Mason

So you’re saying it’s my fault.

    Well…maybe it is.

But then, which one of you was the one who MADE ME misread?

    Hmm?

(Kidding. Sry ER I just brain glitched is all.)

    Good thread.

Will this be a complete team that can make big plays? Will their youth be more of a detriment to themselves or to the opposing teams trying to keep up with these fresh legs? Will the offensive line settle in and become an elite group, or continue to flail with injuries and player movement between positions?

I expect more consistent effort through the entire season. They have their identity now. The Rams shouldn’t falter in the first quarter of the season like last year. Take away those first four games, and they were 6-6. I could live with .500 last year. This year, they have to be better.

On offense, I wonder if receivers will be able to improve on just getting open, or finding separation, if there’s a difference. I have to say that wondering what Britt will become provides the most intrigue for me in that regard. Quick’s development comes in second. I kind of feel like RB, QB, and to a less confident degree, the OL, will be considered real strengths.

On defense, I wonder how the transition to GWs defense will go. How quickly will the new system become second nature? It is going to be different, and it doesn’t sound like it will be more simple. Personnel-wise, like everyone else, I wonder if the legion of new faces in the defensive backfield will produce guys who can cover. What about Jenkins? It seemed to me like his improvement stalled, or he may have even regressed. Will that turn around? I will say I am hopeful.

I’m kinda disappointed I didn’t come up with that joke , I like it.

Hey I just found out that if you use your cursor to blue out part of a previous text then hit quote, it quotes only the selected text.

But anyway on to less serious matters.

Yes, I agree that those 3 things are possible, myself. It’s a bold statement on your part. I assume though that you are still in good with the football gods?

i think another big question is the secondary and can williams bring that group together. and if so how long will it take?

I am so in there with those guys. I made a God joke one time, about how Thor is actually the Thcandanavian god of acheth and painth, and they just rolled. Ever since then, they love partying with me. They love to hear jokes that make fun of gods and religion and stuff. I wanted to tell them one about Jehova’s Witnesses, but all I could come up with were knock knock jokes. You know, they’re really just ordinary gods who rule the football universe, just like you and me. As long as I stay on their good side, I think QB, RB, and even the OL will be definite strengths.

Maybe we should collect a big donut fund for you. Football gods like donuts, right?

Hey have another chocolate glazed! Say…don’t you think the Rams offensive line has been injured enough over the years?

I don’t think we know enough yet to say that even the best coaching can turn this secondary into a decent unit. I think that McDonald and Jenkins have both demonstrated sufficient talent to say that with good coaching they should be at least solid starters and possibly much better than that. Everyone else is pretty much just potential. There are so many players being counted on to make a leap that I just assume that the unit continues to be a weakness for at least the first half of the season. A key injury or two could result in them being really terrible. Hopefully GW can use the scheme and the ridiculous talent level up front to compensate, but if the entire unit doesn’t step up in a big way they’re still going to be vulnerable to the pass.

Donuts, yes. Absolutely… Donuts with jokes, and we might not lose a game. I picture offering up a maple bar: “It does seem like a good year for the Rams, donut?” “Dunbar won’t be in custardy to start the season, will he?” and stuff like that.
