The #Rams are acting like a big-market team on the cusp of the Super Bowl. But their boldness is accompanied by shrewdness. That’s a fine line that often gets crossed.
Robert@robzap
Do you think Baron goes with Austin?
Vincent Bonsignore@DailyNewsVinny
No.
FYI on #Rams salary cap: After trades go through they’ll have a projected $36m in space. If Tavon Austin gets released a shade under $40m

Rams will need to hold about $6.5 for their draft picks. That leaves less than $30m for free agency and extensions.

Rams are now officially moving on from their twice-franchised CB Trumaine Johnson.
But it makes financial sense:
Trumaine Johnson made $16.7 million last season.
Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters will make a combined $12.7 million this year
Kurt Warner@kurt13warner
Well, to go along with the leagues top ranked scoring O, @RamsNFL have added @marcuspeters & @AqibTalib21 on the defensive side… can’t wait to watch my old team hit the field, will this be their year?
Dan Orlovsky@danorlovsky7
Just seeing some @RamsNFL news and WOW. Making a run next season with strategic moves, similar to how Rosemam did last off-season for the Eagles. Wade is gonna play man, rush 5, and get Donald a bunch of 1-on-1’s…players over plays! #RamsNation

Worth noting: As the rivalry of rebuilding #Rams and #49ers grows, L.A. has beat S.F to punch twice already this offseason in acquiring lockdown outside CBs.

Rams announced they have signed their reliable LS, Jake McQuaide, to a 3-year extension, keeping the two-time Pro Bowler through 2020. Their P, Johnny Hekker, is signed through 2022. Their K, Greg Zuerlein, is signed through 2019. They’re three of the best at what they do.
For those who think 32-year-old CB Aqib Talib might be slowing down, here are some nuggets from 2016 to 2017, courtesy of Pro Football Focus: 0.7 yards allowed per coverage snap (T-2nd best), 21.4% forced incompletions (10th), 63.2 passer rating allowed (6th), 12.3% targets per coverage snap (7th lowest), 53.6% completion percentage allowed (15th). (This was among 106 CBs with at least 750 snaps the last two years.)
Rams offseason thus far …
* acquire CB Marcus Peters
* franchise DB Lamarcus Joyner
* trade ED Robert Quinn
* trade ILB Alec Ogletree
* sign CB Sam Shields
* acquire CB Aqib Talib
* extend LS Jake McQuaide
Still on the Rams’ agenda …
* sign Aaron Donald
* bring back Sammy Watkins
* get two new OLBs
* get an ILB
* get a NT/DE
* sign Lamarcus Joyner long term
* figure out C/OL depth
* bring back Nickell Robey-Coleman
They have about $35M to play with, so obviously they won’t be able to do all of this. Some holes, perhaps those at linebacker, will inevitably have to be filled internally.

Here’s the top of the current WR1 market. $16.5 million per year average. Where, below that, does Watkins believe he fits?
I’m sure the Rams want Watkins back, too. But is he worth a top-five contract at the position? That may be the terms.
The cap went up by $10 mill from 2017, and there aren’t many marquee FA’s this year. That means guys are getting OVERPAID.
At this rate, watch the Rams sign Richard Sherman to pair him with Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, because why not
