Sean McVay on homework process of Marcus Peters trade: we got people’s opinions that we trusted

Few teams have more personnel work to do than Rams.

Rams coach Sean McVay is not ruling out the possibility of bringing back CB Trumaine Johnson, even though they recently traded for CB Marcus Peters. McVay said the Peters acquisition was made “independent” of Johnson. “We know what a good product Trumaine put out there last year,” McVay said in a phone conversation from the combine. “There’s a reason why he was a player that you used the franchise tag on the last two years. I do think he’ll be highly-sought-after in free agency, but in an ideal world, we would like to be able to get Trumaine back on our team.”

Sean McVay, on flying Southwest to the combine: “We flew Southwest because it was the only direct flight from LAX to Indianapolis. There was a Delta option, but you had to connect. So it was the only direct one. And, shoot, I like Southwest.”

    I ask the tough questions.

Spotted on the way to Indy: #OU QB Baker Mayfield in a middle seat right next to #Rams coach Sean McVay on a @SouthwestAir flight. McVay was seated first, Mayfield hustled to sit next to him. … There may be some QB talk going on.

In ideal world #Rams want Trumaine Johnson back. But hard to see their ideal world and his FA market lining up. Someone is going to pay him

Side note to #Rams HC Sean McVay sitting next to Baker Mayfield on a flight to Indy: McVay told me a couple weeks ago he was so impressed with a couple of Oklahoma/Mayfield plays he logged them into #Rams playbook.

Sounds like Jedd Fisch, hired as a senior offensive assistant, will have a significant role on gameday.

McVay told 710 that he “will really be chest-bumping” Les Snead when the Marcus Peters trade becomes official on March 14.

Watkins (on tag), Joyner, Donald, and Johnson would probably add up to somewhere between $58-62 mill, without some serious salary cap magic
