NFL Hopeful Lakendrick Ross Trying to Prove He’s Not Just a Workout Freak

The Supplemental Draft is an opportunity for guys, who, for whatever reason, were not eligible for May’s “regular” draft (i.e. due to legal issues, academic problems, etc.). And so, every July, a few players gain eligibility to finally be drafted.

This year’s Supplemental features colossal human Lakendrick Ross, an athletic defensive tackle who checks in at 6’5″, 360 pounds. Ross originally committed to play at Morgan State in 2011, but was never able to qualify academically. After taking 2011 off, he committed to play at Virginia University of Lynchburg, where he tore shit up as a freshman.

That, however, would be the last time he would suit up, as academics once again got in the way. Sitting out the 2013 season, he was ready to give up. However, after seeing his best friend and teammate at Lynchburg, Keith Lewis, get signed by the Buccaneers, he contacted Lewis’ agent, Donte Robinson of Elite Sports Agency, to see if he could sign with him and get on track to making it to the NFL.

With only one year of college experience under his belt, Robinson took a chance on him and put in paperwork for the Supplemental Draft. Since being accepted, Robinson has fielded over 80 calls from 28 teams expressing interest.

Ross, who can do 47 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, maxes out at 405, and allegedly runs the 40 in 4.51 seconds, is holding a Pro Day today.

While it’s unlikely he will be selected, there’s a very good chance he’ll end up in a team’s camp this summer. People that big and that athletic seem to have a way of winding up in training camp.

Eleven NFL teams attend Monday workout for supplemental draft entrant

Eleven NFL clubs attended a Monday workout for a defensive lineman eligible for the 2014 supplemental draft.

The Bears, Cardinals, Chiefs, Colts, Eagles, Falcons, 49ers, Patriots, Raiders, Rams and Texans watched former Virginia University of Lynchburg defensive lineman LaKendrick Ross go through drills, agent Glen Lansky told PFT on Monday night.

Multiple other media outlets first reported word of Ross’ Virginia workout, including WVEC-TV, NFLDraftDiamonds.com and National Football Post.

According to Lansky, Ross measured in at 6-foot-4 and 366 pounds on Monday. He is only 21 years old, Lansky told PFT.

Ross played just the 2012 season of college football at Virginia-Lynchburg before being ruled ineligible for 2013, his agent told PFT. He was slated to begin his collegiate career at Morgan State in 2011, but he never played for the school, according to Lansky.

The supplemental draft will be held this month.

    6′-5″, 366 lbs, runs a 40 in 4.51 and does 47 reps of 225 –

I see why teams want to see him up close and personal but which of these numbers are right? I’d guess the 366 lbs.

Well, okay. But…why would that many teams attend a workout?

Ross apparently put up some big numbers at his workout. Talbot report that he ran a 1.81 unofficial 10 yard split, and had a wing span of 83.5 inches. There will be an official list of players eligible for this year’s supplemental draft, and I’ll get something together with them before the draft.

Here’s another bit but it;s from a poster on another team’s site who does not give a source:

Ross weighed in at 360 pounds and looked amazing. The NFL scouts were flocking around the physical specimen while he ran his 40 yard dash as well as did positional drills.

Ross weighed in at 366 pounds and measured in at 6’4.

He had a 83.5 wing span.

Ran a 1.81 unofficial 10 yard split, and one scout said he timed him from a 5.4 to 5.5.

I have seen this kind of thing before though I don’t remember names. Heavy beast DT with great numbers ends up as a UDFA or in this case in the supplemental draft.

Before, what killed the guy or 2 I am thinking of was stamina.

It was one thing to make it through a workout. It was another to make it through an NFL practice.

    In all seriousness…..He looks like a slim 360 to me…if that’s possible
