    They’ve had better games.

Flores was the defensive coordinator for the super bowl Patz team that beat the Rams. He had 2 weeks with a bye to figure the Rams out.

Now the Rams have a bye.

We sucked on offense and special teams. Defense was OK.

    bad 🐟 🌮.

defense was excellent. running game was tough. passing game and special teams let the team down.

Wow. The defense was the only thing that didn’t look terrible.

I’m starting to believe that unless the Rams have an elite defense Goff is not good enough to win them a Super Bowl. Yes, I am aware that the Rams have played in a Super Bowl with Goff as their starter, but since that game he has not proven that he can consistently handle good defenses. He might play well enough on occasion (e.g. last week vs. Chicago), but over the long hall good DCs seem to find ways to fluster him. I am certain that the Rams will not be making the playoffs this season. In fact, I’ll go one step further and confidently say that today was the first loss in what is about to be a five game losing streak.

McVay got another lesson on coaching. imo

I thought we replaced our bad kicker, evidently not?
    .
What happened to our Special Teams?

We never should have paid Goff.

trying to look at the bright side.

rams defense is now #2 in yards allowed.

    #4 in rushing yards allowed.
    #2 in passing yards allowed.

#4 in points allowed (well… tied for #3 with kansas city). and only half a point per game from being #1.

pretty impressive. half the season officially in the books.

i’m still waiting for the seattle game. arizona game could be a challenge too. both ranked #1 and #2 in total offense.

Bad game by Goff, too. 4 turnovers on Goff, there could have been more. imo
    .
Too many tipped balls. Too many poor decisions.

GoodLord, are you kidding me. WTF.
    ——————-
“…They outgained the Dolphins 471 to 145, had 31 first downs to Miami’s eight, averaged 5.1 yards per play compared to only 3.0 for the Dolphins, and converted on seven of their 17 third-down attempts. The Dolphins, on the other hand, were 3-for-12 on third down…”

My mate (a fish fan) was sat next to me all game and kept saying to me… “Why don’t you boys just run it down our throats, you’re getting 5 yards here, 10 yards there a carry.. nearly 100 yards by HT and we can’t stop it, yet you continue to pass it.” He was as confused as I was frustrated.

Maybe Mcvay tried to prove a point to Flores that he could beat him in the air like he tried to in the SB, and yet again it backfired on him. The play-calling was terrible and predictable! 1 x TO on Goff, the other 3 are on the coach. Stop being stubborn Sean and adjust to what the defence gives you!?

I had to work so I didn’t see the game, but the consensus on the internet says the blame falls on McVay and Goff.

McVay is a great play designer and game planning strategist, but perhaps he lacks tactical (play calling) awareness?

Goff keeps making the same mistakes he always makes. I think Goff has reached his ceiling. He’s not going to get better than he is now. He’s still good enough to win with, but he’s likely not going to be more than a second level QB.

    I don’t agree.

First I don’t agree that he has reached his ceiling.

Second I see him having a weakness–even with a run game and a solid OL, he struggles against teams that can BOTH bring pressure AND execute strong coverage.

Which btw describes both SF and Miami.

But that’s just SO FAR he has been flawed in those games.

Meanwhile Washington is 4th on defense and that defense is 6th in pressure percentage, but the Rams ran the ball on them 35 times.

And Miami’s offense gained exactly 1 less yard against the Rams defense than Washington’s did.

I hate to say it but I think Mcvay has hit his ceiling as a coach. Everything I read on pregame analysis said Miami would do exactly what they did and Mcvay looked mystified. Also in the post game interview he was visibly angered at a reporter’s question on if Miami used the same Defense as was used in the Super bowl. His first answer declared it had nothing to do with the defense used in the Super bowl. Later on in the interview he said they did use some 6-1 alignment but but the offense failed to execute. Looked to me like they used it on every single play I can remember except on punts. How many unblocked hits did Goff endure?

Doesn’t it seem that Kooper Cupp drops passes at crucial big play moments?

At the onset of that game, I thought the Rams were going to crush them…. they did yardage wise…

Fucking Forbath… Rams have been lucky with good kickers throughout the years until now… it’s back to the Frank Corral era of Ram kickers……

    yeah.

sean and jared. they screwed it up. miami had no business being in this game except for the stupid decisions made by those 2. unbelievable. but. i think they can learn from this. i think they will learn from this.

it happens. but no way do i get rid of either of them. rams can’t possibly be that stupid.

I don’t think McVay will learn. He has been consistently pass happy lately.

He planned to pass against the Niners. And it failed miserably.

That was his plan against the Bears. And the Rams got lucky. That was a 10-3 game when Kahlil Mack sacked Goff and forced a fumble on 3rd and 2. If the Bears recovered that ball, that game could have been completely different.

The Washington game was kinda similar, but their offense was so terrible that day that the Rams pass happy approach didn’t matter.

So … this was a game where we were the better team, but got outcoached. I am proud of our defense, I can definitely say that.

This is another game where Sun Tzu and I were yelling at the TV because the offensive playcalling.

    The Great

    1) Defense holding them to 7 real points and what … 100 yards of offense?

    2) Donald’s strip sack welcome to the NFL was satisfying.

    The Good

    3) DBs held up without Ramsey.

    4) Rapp’s FF. He can get so low and keep his head up, just impressive.

    5) The running game.

    6) Can Jefferson’s sideline catch.

    7) We even had a chance late … which makes everything that comes after this so freaking frustrating.

The Bad Some of these really could be in the ugly, but I wanted to try to differentiate a bit.

    8) Why, when getting 5 yards a clip, are we not running until they stop us? Why the obsession with trying to pass against the blitz from the pocket?

    9) How can they allow in the NFL that temperature disparity on the sidelines? Shouldn’t there be an awning or something? 140 is literally dangerous.

    10) Ummm … it’s the 3rd quarter and we’re down by 18 … I get that you don’t want to hurry up completely, but can we snap the ball at 15 or 12 instead of 3? How is there not a medium speed?

    11) Goff missing Kupp on the TD.

    12) Everett’s drop.

    The Ugly

    13) Lack of adjustment to the 0 blitzes. No slants. No designated hot routes. Guys running downfield and having deep drops when you don’t have 3 seconds.

    14) Whew I’m glad Henderson got out of Ogbah’s way on the scoop and score … he might have dinged his shoulder. All he has to do is be a speedbump and Goff is at least “throwing” when hit. 10 point swing at least.

    15) What was that FG miss? Is his foot the right shape?

    well. i’m not completely convinced.

the rams are 4th the nfl in rushing attempts per game. so i’m not sure what happened. but i wouldn’t characterize mcvay as pass happy necessarily. maybe a result of just thinking too much? i have no idea.

the one thing that gives me hope is mcvay i believe has only been calling plays since he got to the rams. he never called plays when he was with washington. so. i have no idea how what kind of learning curve there is as a playcaller.

or maybe mcvay has to hand over playcalling duties.

but i definitely don’t think you get rid of him.

he never called plays when he was with washington.

He did actually. In 2015 and 2016.
