Need to cut down on penalties, and do a better job of scoring TD’s in the Red Zone.

There’s a trade off with Cooks , he’s a non-factor blocking for anyone but he is way more productive than Sammy was. 80 to 90 yds in PI penalties and that no fluke he did the same last year . The game was about what I expected , being in Oakland late on Monday night no tape on Gruden to study and a huge interior OL plus Lynch. Wade and McVay both made some great adjustments. Goff is much better than he gets credit for, he stays cool and doesn’t get down on himself. Those deep throws to Woods and Cooks were mighty close to being tds . Does anyone think they won’t sync up and soon ? Stafford Jimmy G Bradford and Carr all looked pretty bad in comparison. It reminded me of last years WA game , I see a lot of positive growth. Ebukam and Littleton were flying around all over the place.

Knocked off the rust in the first half; dominated in the second.

I never get down on this team after a bad first half(well I do, but afterwards I always say I won’t ever again). McVay and Phillips are absolute masters of half time adjustments.

Goff and the receivers were a little bit out of sync, but got better over the game. Gurley is a beast. Donald needs another week or two. Linebackers played reasonably well. Cornerbacks played exceptionally well. Oline was good throughout.

Wish we had a tight end as good as theirs 🙂

TE was a big part of McVay’s O in Washington. I think it is interesting that no passes went to a TE. No targets to a TE. Maybe he went away from them because he knew Gruden would expect him to go to them, or do our TE’s just suck?

I don’t think they have TEs.

TEs were big in Washington because they had them.

Rams don’t really have any. In spite of the hype for some draft picks.

IMO they’re just better off spreading the field with 3 WR sets for Gurley.

That’s okay the GSOT offense didn’t have TEs either.

Absolutley agree. I don’t think our TEs are bad, it’s just there are so many better playmakers on this O. Woods, Cooks, Kupp, and Gurley are good to great on any given Sunday. Feeding those 4 guys will move the chains and score points.

Wade Phillips got kind of out-coached in the first half, but he made great adjustments going into the second half. He is really good at making halftime adjustments.

mcvay does a nice job of adapting to his personnel. he doesn’t have tight ends. but he does have a helluva third receiver in kupp and a helluva running back in gurley. so those two positions are getting emphasized over tight ends.

but i do think eventually mcvay will want to draft a legit tight end prospect. or maybe everett can be that guy. i noticed he played a little bit in the game.

    D-Line Impact

    1. Brockers had a nice sack

    2. On Peters’ pick 6, it was Suh closing in on Carr that distracted him just before throwing that errant pass.

    3. AD was putting pressure (reaching with his left arm against Carr’s right) when he threw that duck to Littleton.

So it was fleeting, but those 3 plays had huge implications on the game yesterday.

road teams this week, highest point differential – rams 2nd.
road defenses this week, fewest offensive points allowed – rams 3rd.
road offenses this week, most offensive points scored – rams 5th.

not too shabby for week 1, just think how well they would have done had the starters played during the preseason, ha ha….

nfc west qb ratings, week 1:

    goff – 97.2
    wilson – 92.7
    bradford – 57.6
    garoppolo – 45.1

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly …

I went to sleep after the pick 6 … live on the East Coast so I was satisfied with sleeping at that point.

Also, I’m bummed at the loss of Demby. I don’t know how that cut made sense after cutting Neary. I mean … it’s not the worst thing to happen, but it seems like there were 4 candidates that could have been cut and cleared waivers.

The Good (I don’t have a “great” for this one, because we came out flat)

    1) Playcalling was really solid and inventive.

    2) Wade’s half time adjustments may be the best I have ever seen.

    3) Cooks can really fly. I’ve seen him on the Pats and the Saints, but he looks different at that speed in horns.

    4) JJ3’s pick. It took him some time to figure out how to cover Cook, but he was ready on that play … my brother (Sun Tzu) called the play actually and we were really happy he came down with it rather than Jared. Game changing moment right there.

    5) The Offensive line should be higher on this list … maybe even should have created a “great’ section just for them. Blythe may actually be better than Jamon Brown.

    6) Gurley finishing runs like he didn’t sit out the preseason. I think siting Goff and the WRs was a mistake we paid for (for a half) … but Gurley was ready to go.

    7) Their WRs had 4 catches for 30 yards? Talib and Peters seem to be good … we just can’t cover TEs.

    8) Saw the Cooks vs. Sammy stat line post. That made me smile. Especially because I dropped Sammy in fantasy and kept Tyreek Hill. That’s not even counting the 87 yards in PI.

    9) Donald maybe wasn’t at full ability, but he obviously stayed in shape.

    10) Easley at OLB one play at DT the next. That’s just crazy.

    The Bad

    11) Pharoh out? Bummer.

    12) Goff was inaccurate.

    13) Dropped passes.

    14) LB play was late most of the time.

    15) Overall the D line didn’t wow me to the tune of 48 million a year over three players.

    16) Do we have TEs on our team?

    The Ugly

    17) Cook going for 180 is really unacceptable.

    18) Goff’s fumble. Cannot have that.

    The Priceless

    19) Gruden’s look of disgust on the sidelines.

Keeping it short this week … don’t have as much free time now.

What??! 97 Rams had Warner, Faulk, Bruce, Holt, Pace, Timmerman…they were loaded.

You have zero sense of history.

I was at wv-moms house and lo and behold the rams game was being replayed on the tv. So i saw a lot of it.

I came away with two thots:

One– Marshawn Lynch made me smile. What a strong back. Gritty, tough, old-school, in his old age. What is it about gettin old that ya start rooting for the grizzled ones. Having said that a lot of his yards came because he’s a bull. The holes werent big. I thot the Ram Run Defense was just fine. Which is fucking critical. Bring on Atlanta, now.

two — I thot the Rams D Line scared the hell out of Gruden and whatshisname the QB. They were not about to let the Rams pass rush win this game. So even though the DLine didnt have splashy plays, they still won the game imho. The raiders offense limited itself so much that the Rams linebackers and secondary didnt have to worry about the whole raider playbook. Thats how it looked to me, anyway.

Obviously the offense will get better with more practice and game experience. Woods and Goff will connect on some big stuff.

The offensive line did a fantastic job for the Rams. For some reason McVay didn’t want to run the ball in the 1st half but in the 2nd he did and it really opened up the offense. One way or the other, this offense runs through Gurley.

The defensive line had an impact even if they didn’t go to sack city. The holding calls alone had an impact.

I love Brandin Cooks. I expected a deep threat but he is soooo much more than that. Upgrade over Watkins.

I love our coaching staff. They know how to adjust at halftime. They had nothing to go on to start the game. But they figured it out. So what if Jared Cook got yards. They scored 13 points. Julio Jones had 160 against the Eagles. He didn’t score.

I was pleasantly surprised by the linebackers–especially Corey Littleton. Very nice game.

GZ with a nice 55 yard FG. Great kickoffs.

It sucks about Cooper but I’m glad they were able to bring back Natsun.

I hope they don’t overlook the Cards. Beyond that I worry about home games. They were not great at home last year.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE RAM STATS FROM WEEK 1

    4 for 28

    4 jet sweeps, 28 yards (7.0 average)

I’m a fan of the jet sweep. Not only because it seems to work (gaining at least 4-5 yards) in most cases, but because the threat creates openings both for Gurley and in the passing game.

This year, as we saw on Monday, any of our three starting WRs can run the jet sweep (Kupp ran 2, Woods and Cooks each ran 1). And, unlike Tavon Austin last year, each of them is also a big part of the passing game.

I expect to see more of these plays (and fake jets) in coming weeks, and I predict that at some point, Cooks will bust one for a long TD.

Just found out Marcus Peters was fined today

Rams’ Marcus Peters fined over $13K for TD celebration
    By Kevin Patra
    Around the NFL Writer
    Published: Sept. 14, 2018 at 11:12 a.m.

Marcus Peters paid tribute to Marshawn Lynch during his backward dive into the end zone on a pick-six in Monday night’s victory over the Oakland Raiders. Now the Los Angeles Rams’ corner must pay out of his pocket.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Peters was fined over $13,000 for grabbing his crotch during the touchdown celebration, per a source informed of the punishment.

Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports first reported the fine.

Peters intercepted Derek Carr late in the fourth quarter Monday night and scampered 50 yards for the game-sealing score. Upon reaching the end zone, the corner leaped backward and grabbed his crotch, a move Lynch had been fined for in the past.
