Normally, I agree with the BPA principle. JT follows that principle in his mock, grabbing a WR.

But this year? Not so much.

We desperately need OL. We could get a good player somewhere else, but if we don’t get quality in the OL it ain’t gonna make a helluva lot of difference. I can’t imagine this team even sustaining last year’s level without OL upgrades. And the draft has to be part of that.

In the 1st, get us an OL, OG, or OC who can play. BPA somewhere else will leave us high and dry.

Is that good draft strategy? Nope. But bad OL acquisition for years has left us in this spot. We need solid OL talent. Even if there are better players elsewhere. It’s the price of failed OL policies for years.

By virtue of the absurd ...

I agree with that. Maybe drop down and get an extra pick if you have to, but do something. It’s not like they can’t use a wide receiver but if the QB has no time to throw them the ball, what does it matter? And if Bradford does come back you sure as hell better protect him.

If the Rams didn’t add GRob last year, they’d be in a position where they absolutely had to come out of round 1 with an ol. But with Robinson & Saffold the Rams already have 2 talented guys. All the Rams need is maybe 2 more talented oline to add to what they already have.

One of those can come in free agency and one in the draft. Or one of those guys could be Rhaney of Barett Jones–I wouldn’t count on either one of those guys, but stranger things have happened than 2nd and 3rd year offensive line prospects turning into solid players.

Even if Jones and Rhaney don’t offer anything, that 2nd round pick should be a prime spot to grab a nice guard. That would give the Rams their best pair of starting OG since the GSOE. By far.

And if the Rams trade down with a wr needy time like the Ravens or KC, they can definitely go BPA. A trade down could lead to a draft like this:
1st: BPA Eric Kendricks?? LB–I’d love to see the Rams grab a fast line backer for the middle of the defense.
2nd: Best guard available–this is a deep guard draft so there should be something good here.
2nd from trade down: Rams qb prospect for the future.
    3rd: BPA

You know, I see a lot of people (not really here) troubled by the Rams decisions for the future, but I’m probably more excited about the upcoming season than I have been for a while. Fisher and Snead have found some young, talented guys. I’m excited to see if Fisher can help them become a good team.

I am with Cal on this one. There is room to play. I believe they will go heavy OL, but, there are a number of ways to do that, including draft picks. The real value in terms of OL picks come in rounds 2 and 3, where there are many options when it comes to picking a guard.

#10 would not be a value pick for guard, not unless someone blew them away.

Depending on what they see with their own developmental guys (Jones, Rhaney, Bond, Washington, Baker), and who they pick in the high and low free agency markets, they could use the 10 on OL or actually go BPA (for example, DE or receiver).

    It just all depends.

There’s a lot that can happen with this, including trading down.

But I do see them coming out of this personnel season with a lot of new OL options.

I would take Cooper, but otherwise, I go for La’el Collins or Brandon Scherff. I think they fit bpa as well as any of the other players at different positions. Maybe the Rams see a bigger need or value them differently? There are players there that can help the Rams and that is the object.
