I never bought into the “defense wins championships” mantra, but it can lose them.

This defense is not good.

at this point i do not see this team beating the saints.

I now cringe when our defense takes the field, despite having Aaron Donald. It does not look good for Kupp. We might have TEs.

Exciting game.

Waaaay too many personal fouls.

It seems the rams have become slow starters the last several games.

Wilson is a gamer. His running was, unfortunately, impressive.

The new DE was a good pickup. Need to keep the emotions in check.

I echo JoeMad on clock management. I didn’t expect them to lose when they gave the ball to the Seahawks with 1:35 left, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if they had. They held on, but against a real football team….

Lost Kupp, looks like. I think that weakens the offense considerably.

I don’t understand the defense. Losing Talib should hurt, but it’s like the whole secondary looks lost without him, and I don’t understand that.

This does not look like a Super Bowl team right now. How about some turnovers?

Good win , the D is a mess. I wonder if Suh and Donald competing for sacks is resulting in their poor performance against the run? Remember when being an Lb behind this DL was supposed to be easy. Ebukam had a horrible game. He has flashed from time to time but is not the answer out there imo.I thought the dbs played well for the most part Wilson’s throws were pinpoint accurate and defeated what I thought was good coverage quite a few times

I think that’s part of it. Maybe it’s by design, but I think Suh and Donald are abandoning their gaps to get to the passer, and offenses are taking advantage of that with the run.

The execution delights me. They dont drop balls. They dont fumble. They dont throw INTs. They go where they are supposed to go. I swear. i think this offense is less vulnerable than the gsot.

maybe i’m wrong. but it’s definitely more balanced. maybe partially because of the new rules. but goff is less prone to getting bulgerized in an offense as balanced as this rams offense.

and i still don’t think we’ve seen the best. gurley, woods, and cooks have a lot of tread left on the tires. hopefully, kupp comes back next year healthy. but goff is just now starting to scratch the surface of how good he can become. i honestly don’t think he’s there yet. like i said. there’s only one other qb i’d take over goff right now. that’s mahomes. that guy is on another level. he reminds me of aaron rodgers. he’s that good. but it won’t be any knock on goff if he can have a career similar to that of brees.

quarterbacks typically don’t peak until around their age 29 season. goff is in his age 24 season. he’s got four more seasons after this one before he hits his age 29 season. what will he look like then? or even what will he look like in 2021 – his age 27 season? gurley will be 27 and hopefully in the prime of his career. cooks will be in his age 28 season and still under contract. robert woods will be 29 and should still be under contract. kupp’s contract ends in 2020. so i don’t know what happens there.

the gsot in 2000 when they were arguably at their greatest before warner went down with an injury. faulk was 27. isaac was 28. torry was 24. kurt was 29.

one problem i see though is replacing whitworth. he won’t be around by then. so how do they replace him? is noteboom the answer? i hope so. he can’t ask for a better situation learning under whitworth and being coached by kromer. he’ll be in the last year of his rookie contract in 2021.

hopefully, the rams can stay relatively healthy. and if noteboom can provide continuity at left tackle, the next 3-4 years could be fun.

of course. the rams also have to re-sign goff for all this to work. hehe.

Goff has a chance to be in the same discussion as Kurt. He may even have more talent than Kurt. But for ‘me’ there’s the regular season — and then there’s the playoffs. Ya know.

We could be watching the evolution of a Hall Of Fame, QB. But we just dont know how much he’s gonna grow.

There’s truly tantalizing omens though. Goff’s does three things, and we all know them:

1. Uncanny Accuracy on his bullets. He can fucking thread the needle. Its even better than Bulger.

2 Weird Balance. Goff can throw…im tempted to say “off balance”… but instead I’ll call it “Goff Balance”.
He defies conventional balance-fundamentals. He dont need no stinkin fundamentals. His legs AND arms can be all wonky, and he still gets off accurate passes. He looks a bit frail, but he plays like he’s made of some sort of gangly-rubber or somethin.

3 Pocket Awareness. He’s got good pocket-presence, good pocket-awareness. I never thought Bradford had that. Goff does. He slides and moves and glides in the pocket. He senses things.

Them 3 things are special.

Aikman was right though, sometimes he does miss wide open receivers. But not enough to matter.

I dont say much about Goff, because nothing i just wrote means shit, if he cant do it under pressure in the playoffs. I didnt say much about Kurt either, till he did it in the playoffs.

He’s played, what, 8 + 17 + 9 games? He has come far.
