Rams trade for Brandin Cooks

The Rams get Cooks and a 4th round pick from the Pats this year – the Pats get the Rams 1st pick and a 6th round pick this year.

#Rams had trouble with defenses not doubling their backside WR last year (Watkins). Trade for Cooks changes that.

Brandin Cooks lined up all over the place for the Patriots, but, as ESPN's Mike Reiss said, he is best used as an X receiver, which is where Sammy Watkins lined up. Cooks will bring more speed, but Rams paid a heavy price.

I will say this.

It is a very weird thing to get one of the most productive WRs in the game and have so many people hate it when two years ago people were excited for Nelson Spruce.

I am not enthused about this, but it is a hell of a lot better than going after obj. Cooks is a FA next year. Cooks played with Mannion in college.

I guess the Rams’ draft is over except for developmental guys.

I don’t know Cooks. But the Rams better sign him to a long term deal. I don’t want to give up a first round pick for a rental.

my immediate thoughts are the rams got better on offense. a lot better. IF everyone stays healthy and continues to progress.

rams better load up on some backups for the oline.

but cooks is good. he’s real good. better than sammy.

Yes, it certainly looks that way. It is not going to be a boring season, that’s for sure.

I love it! Cooks a 4.3 burner that runs great routes and has great hands as well. I don’t think your getting anywhere close the that level a player at 23 in the draft. Sure it’s only a year but they’re already trying to extend him and with 100 million cap space next year if they like him they probably get it done. If Wade thinks Ebukam and Littleton can do it I trust him.

Go watch the Jacksonville playoff game where they knocked Cooks out of the game.

Get physical with this smurf and you can take him outta his game.

He’ll hit some deep routes on occasion and that will be it!!

Why have TWO passing teams given up on him already?

He’s only 24 and on his third team already, why?

I liked Cooks coming out, but after seeing how you defend him in the NFL he lost value for ME.

With NE as well, because I’m pretty sure I know why they traded him.

Cooks had a fantastic game against the Jags in the AFC title game. He had 6 catches for 100 yards and then had an additional 2 pi penalties for about 30 yards each.

All together he was targeted 10 times and 8 of those targets resulted in positive results. Including the pi penalties, Cooks accounted for 160 yards in the title game. And that’s against what is supposed to be a talented secondary.

I’m a fan of the pick-up as long as the Rams have a plan for the salary cap. Without a 1st or 2nd pick this year and no pick in round 2 next year, the Rams could easily struggle to replace some of the good players that are scheduled to hit free agency without a plan for the cap.

When Les Snead called and said: “Hey PA Ram, we’re thinking of trading our 23rd pick for Cooks, what do you think?”

I said: “I dunno, Les. I’m very concerned about offensive line depth, an edge rusher and the linebackers. Also–back-up QB could be an issue. Maybe we should work with what we’ve got for now at receiver. Is this a luxury that Sean simply MUST have?”

Les told me to go fuck myself and hung up.

So there’s that.

Hey–I hope it works but it just sort of “feels” like a luxury when I think they had real needs elsewhere.

On the other hand–I like this better than going after OBJ.

Yeah actually Cooks got knocked out (concussion) in the Superbowl and N.E. doesn’t make it there without him. Cooks is definitely not soft, he’s not a big physical guy like Sammy but he is faster and runs better routes. If you watch him in N.O. he lines up all over the place his tree is extensive, honestly I don’t know what LA is talking about. My guess on why N.E. traded is they lost their LOT, Amendola and traded Jimmy G. A 40 something QB with no LOT, no backup they need to move up in the draft.
