    Now I just need the Rams to sign Jimmy Clausen and the plan I hatched in 2010 will finally come to fruition.

    Honestly, I would like the Rams to get Donald’s deal done and find a NT that fits Wade’s scheme. I’m not sure that Suh helps either of those things happen.

    I just can’t get excited about this. I really think that the money just isn’t there to sign the guy and I don’t find myself of the belief that Suh will take less money to play for a winner.

    If he did, and things started poorly, I’m not sure if he’d be a great guy in the locker room. Also he has only played in a 4-3 scheme and you’d probably have to move Brockers back to NT.

    I’d rather they find more of a pure nose tackle and someone who doesn’t stomp on other players. There is no way the Rams can or should pay Suh the kind of money he will want. Hey–if they can drive up his price so Seattle can’t sign him–great.

    If they end up with a Donald-Suh-Brockers D-line, to go along with a Peters-Talib-Joyner-Johnson secondary, I think the Rams’ beat writers could take up the linebacker spots and they’d be aight

    LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Rams have already added a couple of All-Pro corners in Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, pairing them with safety Lamarcus Joyner to help form what might be the NFL’s best secondary.

    Now, it seems, they’re trying to add the final piece to a devastating defensive line.

    Ndamukong Suh — the 6-foot-4, 305-pound tormentor of opposing quarterbacks — will be flying to Southern California to visit with the Rams this week, a source said Sunday night, confirming an initial report from Yahoo! Sports. If the Rams sign Suh, they would probably plug him into the middle of a defensive line that already includes Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers.

    Suh was released by the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday, then visited with the New Orleans Saints and the Tennessee Titans as part of a free-agency tour that could include several other teams before reaching its conclusion.

    Suh, 31, might still be the game’s best interior lineman outside of Donald, the reigning AP Defensive Player of the Year. From 2010 to 2017, he has compiled 51.5 sacks, second only to Geno Atkins for the most among defensive tackles, and has been named first-team All-Pro on three occasions.

    The 2010 No. 2 overall pick by the Detroit Lions has always played in a 4-3 system and is best utilized as a 3-technique, which means he lines up between the guard and the tackle. The Rams play a 3-4 system, overseen by defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, and Donald is their 3-tech. But Suh has displayed versatility throughout his career. He has steadily improved defending the run, continues to be a menace against the pass and has proven to be exceedingly durable, playing in at least 800 snaps in seven of his eight seasons.

    The Rams could use Suh either as a nose tackle or a defensive end, with Brockers able to play both.

    The Rams haven’t signed any new free agents since the league year began, but they recently brought back three of their players — center John Sullivan, wide receiver Tavon Austin and slot corner Nickell Robey-Coleman. Their remaining needs are edge rushers and run-stuffers. Suh may not fit the traditional mold of either, but he remains among the game’s best pass-rushers and is certainly big enough to fill the gaps to stop the run.

    After accounting for their draft pool, the Rams have something in the neighborhood of $25 million in cap space for 2018. But they also need to save some room for Donald, who is looking to become the game’s highest paid defensive player — a title once held by Suh.

    The defensive tackle told Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports he plans to visit the Los Angeles Rams. NFL Network’s Peter Schrager reported that the meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.

    Suh, who ranks No. 3 on NFL.com’s Top 101 Free Agents of 2018, was released by the Miami Dolphins at the start of the free-agent signing period last week — three years after he signed a record six-year, $114 million contract.

    The visit to L.A. will be Suh’s third. The 31-year-old made trips to New Orleans and Tennessee. Suh told Schultz that both visits “went well” and added money has not yet been discussed.

    The Rams provide an intriguing destination for Suh, who would fit in with the glitz and glamour of L.A.

    On the field, pairing Suh with Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald would be unfair to offenses. Good luck blocking one of those pocket-pushing behemoths one-on-one. Quarterbacks would be under siege from the snap of the ball.

    Courting Suh is the latest move for general manager Les Snead that shows he’s going all-in on 2018. Already Snead landed a ball-hawking corner duo of Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib in trades. Pairing the game-wrecking interior rush of Suh and Donald with a corner duo that jumps the ball would give Wade Phillips endless options.

    Outside of California’s high income tax — Florida’s lack of tax on salary famously played a role in Suh landing in Miami — Suh to L.A. makes sense on the field and off the field. The Rams would need to make the money work in the short term to ensure cash remains to lock down Donald, Todd Gurley and Jared Goff down the road. Thanks in part to many of their key contributors still being on rookie contracts, the Rams currently sit in the top three in cap space in 2019 and 2020, per Over The Cap.

    been thinking about it and at first i wasn’t sure if he’d be a fit.

    but looking at his athletic traits. he’s explosive. he’s strong. he’s got some speed. i don’t know why you couldn’t put him at defensive end and put brockers back at nose tackle. wade always talks about creating one on one matchups for your best players. all three dlinemen in this instance would command double teams. someone would be getting freed up. i don’t know why this wouldn’t work.

    pro football focus ranks him number 5 among all dlinemen with a 91.0 grade. it’s the second best grade of his career. they talk about the fact that he’s become equally adept at both the run and pass and can play in multiple schemes.

    not only that but he’s played defensive end for miami some.

    i think wade would find a way to make it work. i don’t think the rams would bring him in unless wade said he could make it work. just depends on if suh would want to do the things wade would ask of him. maybe that’s why there’s a visit scheduled. to see if there’s a match.

    I don’t see how they could afford both Suh and Donald.

    And I don’t see him as a fit. In Wade’s D he would be a 3-tech, which is AD’s position.

    Brockers wasn’t a fit at NT so I don’t see the advantage of putting Suh at DE.

    This whole thing is just several differently shaped pegs for one round hole.

    that’s the one thing i can’t get past. money.

    but fit? i don’t know. here’s a link from the third article. scott seems to think suh could play any position on a dline in a 3-4 front.

    brockers not being a fit at nose tackle. i think there’s something to that as well.

    i don’t know. i really don’t. did wade put him at end because he wasn’t a fit at nose or because he really needed him at end? regardless you have three guys who can play at multiple positions on the line and two who are elite level talents.

    i gotta think wade gave an ok. and during the meeting coaches will go over scheme to see if it’s a match or if suh is even willing to do what would be asked of him.

    and as far as money. maybe they cut barron. if they did then i think drafting a guy like evans would be vital.

    See I don’t think that’s the case. I don’t think it IS a “can play multiple positions” thing. I think AD is a 3-tech, I think Suh is a 3-tech, and I think Brockers is a 3/4 end.

    The thought of Suh signing with the Rams makes me feel apprehensive, not excited. Too many things could go wrong.

    I agree. How many guys that have questionable character can the Rams sign before it reaches a critical mass? They would be better off signing a true NT.

    invader, you are in the minority on this. Which is fine except you know what being in the minority on an issue means. It means you have to expect terrible reprisals and all posts by you will be delayed for inspection to make sure they are not causing any trouble.

    We are for diversity of opinions, sure, but, that doesn;t mean people can disagree with the majority. You start allowing THAT and it’s anarchy.

    good discussions over at the herd.

    i agree with the people who say the only way this works is if he plays defensive end. and i think brockers goes back to nose.

    but who even knows if suh can play the 5 technique? i’d bet he can. he’s superior athletically. has enough length. and is a sharp dude.

    I dont take any of this seriously because i think there’s zero chance they can afford Suh and Donald.

    But, having said that, i dont think “fit” would be a problem. I remember reading that Barron would not ‘fit’ in this defense, but he did fine. I just think good coaches alter the alignments to fit the great-player. Wade would just adapt the defense to make Suh fit. If that means more 4-3 so be it. Play Donald and Suh on the inside. Whatever. I’m not an X’s and O’s guy so i cant give details. But i do not believe Wade cant find a way to fit in a great d-lineman.

    What if Merlin was available? Bad ‘fit’ ? Nah.

    Well, Wade must think Suh can fit, or why would he waste time bringing him in for a visit?

    There’s a salary cap in football.

    You don’t go, “Oh, well, I have six cars that do everything I need, but this car is on the market, and if it’s below market value, maybe I’ll take it.”

    It just doesn’t work that way. Suh would cost a lot of money, even if he took a discount…and I don’t know why he would. You don’t spend that money if there’s not a place for him, and you don’t take him for a test drive if you know he doesn’t fit, and costs too much. That’s a waste of everybody’s time.

    But I don’t want him.

    Donald is a better player, and a better teammate, and we already have him. So go get somebody to put on a hard hat, and plug the middle for 1/10th the cost of Suh. Like Easley.

    How many teams has Suh visited since this question was asked? Pretty obvious his $$ market hasn’t been to his liking

    Sheldon Richardson just got $8m w/chance to add $3m in incentives. Does Suh command same or more? Not so sure about that

    Re: #Rams & Ndamukong Suh: Worth noting there’s been 45 – at last count – 1-year contracts given out in free agency. Obviously Suh – like many others – market hasn’t materialized as he hoped. Rams can sell chance to win a ring, re-establish market & get back out on market in ’19

    He wouldn’t be the first player to take that approach at this point in free agency. It’s happening quite a bit

    On flip side, he might be at a point, as some in #NFL believe, where it’s less about money and more about his legacy and finding a comfortable, winning environment to play out his remaining years. #Rams offer that as well. Have to see what happens when they visit face-to-face

    I don’t know what they can do financially, compared to other teams, but the Rams now could sit Suh down, put their defensive depth chart and a picture of a Super Bowl ring in front of him, and leave the room.

    Wonder how much — if at all — Aaron Donald would be consulted, if the Rams are making a legitimate effort to sign Ndamukong Suh. Would Donald put off signing his long-term deal, to have Suh in the mix? Would Suh sign a short-term, front-loaded deal?

    Suh’s presence would theoretically only boost Donald’s value. Forcing teams to choose between doubling Suh versus doubling Donald is an insane proposition. Donald could legitimately rack up 15 sacks on the interior, with Suh garnering as much attention as he would.
