    Btw, i never liked it when pundits said the Rams had the “no.1 offense” etc and so forth. I never once thought the Rams had the best offense in the NFL. Not that i watched much of other teams. But I just thought they had a “a good to very good offense.”

    But i didnt think of it as ‘the best’ or ‘number one’. It didnt strike me as ‘that’ good. Especially since Goff was a kid and hadnt succeeded in clutch situations routinely as say Brady had.

    I just think of the Rams offense as a work in progress. Like the whole team.

    I think they have the potential to be the best though.

    Well that depends. Is McVay as flexible as Pederson, who can adjust to adjustments and see where his system can expand, or is he a dogmatist with a set way of doing things that can be figured out?

    Though as you said a lot of it depends on how much Goff can grow in a year.

    Lots of factors as per usual. The DC’s will definitely have a lot of tape now, and try to adjust.

    But on the plus-side, the Rams players will be playing in their second year in the system. One would think they would be a split-second quicker and be able to do more, etc.

    And how often do we see an entire OLine coming back for a second year, these days.

    Granted, we had our one healthy year, so the Rams are due for six or seven crippling injuries on the OLine. These things usually start with a basketball accident in the offseason. Or a bobsled incident. Thats what I’ll be watching for.

    I think Stephen A. is wrong the trajectory is headed up! McVay’s been calling plays for 4 years so and the I don’t see the league finally catching up now, why would anyone? I’d think the Rams can’t count on having the exceptional team health they had in ’17 every year and that could slow them down but McVay’s staff did as good of job as I’ve ever seen in keeping people fresh and healthy. Goff improved consistently at Cal year after year and definitely started of that way with Rams. Remember after the Skin’s game people were saying he was locked on to a wr and wasn’t reading coverages , not seeing wide open receivers. I remember posting it was a growing pain and the rest of the season proved it to me anyway.

    i think defenses will adjust to mcvay.

    but the thing is. i remember reading an article a couple days ago about baker mayfield. and he was talking about how mcvay was picking his brain about the oklahoma offense. i think this guy is constantly evaluating and reevaluating his offense. tweaking it.

    we’ll just have to see.

    more importantly though. goff and co have to improve themselves. defenses may adjust. but goff can get better. gurley and kupp can both get better.

    but they could also regress.

    so i guess we’ll see. but i think the real key is goff. can he build on an excellent sophomore season? if he can’t defenses will figure out how to shut him down soon enough.

    My issue is redzone offense.

    Rams were 17th.

    Interestingly, look at who the top 5 were:

    Jacksonville
    Philadelphia
    New England
    Green Bay
    New Orleans

    I agree zn that was frustrating. I don’t think it’s as bad as the stats make it look because they had a relatively large number of scoring plays outside the redzone but still it was a noticeable problem in some games.

    and didn’t mcvay have problems with that in washington? red zone offense?

    This all assumes that McVay does not adjust.

    I just don’t believe that will be the case. He seems open to borrowing from others–to using anything that will give his offense an edge. He does not seem like some inflexible coach. He wants to score. Sure–defenses will adjust to some degree and yes–there will be adjustments to Goff.

    But Mcvay is smart. He will figure that out.

    And Goff really showed me something in the Atlanta playoff loss. He struggled in the 1st half. But he looked like a different quarterback in the 2nd half–from how he saw the field to how he moved. I think something happened in that game for him–even though they lost.

    He will only get better.

    I trust the coaching staff. I think the Rams have the personnel to win.

    They have to be considered a contender unless they get wiped out by injuries or fall on their face.

    They certainly have to be the NFC West favorite next year.

    Make no mistake–there are some outstanding teams in the NFC. Philly. Minnesota. New Orleans. Atlanta. Green Bay with a healthy Rodgers. Anyone can win it.

    But the important thing is that the Rams ARE in that mix. It’s a place they haven’t been for years.

    When he ranks these teams I’m not so sure that the top 6 teams have that much separation. Luck will play a part.

    But they are in the battle.
