On a scale of one (bad) to ten (great)
what would you give Jeff Fisher,
    So far ?

And yes, i know, reducing a
    complex-multifaceted-reality
down to a number is absurd.

I think, as of this minute,
    I’d give him, a….hmmmm..
    ….6.66

    Questionable decisions signing
    Jake Long and Jared Cook,
    and Finnegan.
    Drafting Pead was a mistake.
Greg Robinson over Watkins? I dunno.
    Too soon to tell, maybe.

    Bradford’s injury last year,
and this year has really stalled
the offense. Cant blame Fisher for
    that, can we.

6.66 is a good number for Fisher in many ways, but if that number represents him, why haven’t the results been better so far?

Faustus won the World Cup in his first year, bedded all the cheerleaders, and got a $250 million dollar contract from Reebok.

He gets an A- for drafting from me, though there are some whiffs.

He gets an A for coaching hires, although I don’t think those coaches get As for their production.

He gets a C for coaching. Done some good things. Still has tattered cohesion.

Well, i am not sure that run-of-the-mill-Evil
goes as far as it used to.

I mean, nowadays we have the Harbaughs, and Pete Carroll
and of course Belichex, and Goodell, etc.
I just dont think Fisher is as high
in Satan’s chain of command as
    he used to be.

6.5 is the number that came into my head when I saw the question before reading your post, 6.66 works.

I’d add going into last season expecting to run a spread offense, thinking that Richardson and Pead were acceptable, allowing Stacy to ride the pine so long when it became clear that Richardson was useless, and all the stupid stupid penalties to the dings against him. The number 2 overall pick riding the pine also seems ominous to me, although I’m reserving judgment.

If – win or lose – the front 7 doesn’t start to look A LOT better and the OL a good bit better over the next few games, then my opinion of him will drop considerably. This was supposed to be a smashmouth team. If they can’t block and stop the run with most of the starters playing, then I’d start looking for a new coach. I’m assuming that the front 7 will start playing much better, and – while I’m a bit worried – I still expect the OL to step up. If the former doesn’t happen, though, I really would look to replace him.

On the bright side, he has kept the team playing hard through adversity, adjusted in a big and successful way last year, the secondary’s early play seems better than anyone had a right to expect, and his players seem incredibly devoted to him.

6.66 adds up to 1 + 8 = 9. Which is 3 squared. I give Fisher a B. I mean, he did draft an offensive lineman in the first round.

    I give him a B….

great division record in 2012…. didn’t happen last year because of injuries.

If you’re grading on a bell curve with former Ram coaches like Lenihan and Spags… he gets an A-

Most disappointing Fisher decisions were the fake punt at Candlestick last year and picking Isiah Pead.

I don’t know if he rates a number or letter grade. I give him a “Meh”. If the Rams make the playoffs this year, I’ll upgrade it to a “Hmm”.

Tell you what, if you take away the effects of Bradfords two season enders, that 6.66 ticks up around the 7.5 to 8 mark. Aaaaaand, I could take this stupid snake offa my arm.

But…you’re a Ram fan. You’re snake bit regardless. At least now, you know where the snake is biting you… there are worse places…

You know I am going to reserve judgment on that. I want to see them play a couple of games after the bye first. Strictly speaking, this is a team that’s playing with adversity (qb). I want to see how they handle that.

I give him a 5. I only like using 5’s and 0’s. So, I can not list Fisher as a 10, because he does not deserve it, so I have to give him a 5.

I meant to say end in 5’s and 0’s.

I give him an “incomplete” until the end of the season. I think final grades should be withheld until the end of a coach’s third season.

I’m high on Fisher at the moment – I’ll say 6.69 on a scale of 6.01 to to 6.99. I believe in a variable scale methodology.

But if Dallas bitch slaps the Rams run d tomorrow – he gets a 5.69 on a scale of 6.01 to 6.99.

I’ve always been in the meh crowd regarding fisher – but I do think he’s a decent nfl coach. He’s like many of them – they need a great QB. His greatest success was behind McNair playing at his best. So, how does an Austin Davis-sean Hill combo fit in there?

Ah but. The Titans went to the playoffs in 2007/2008 with Vince Young at qb one year and Kerry Collins at qb the next.

So, I expect of all coaches out there, he’s one of the ones who could actually do well with Hill-n-Davis Inc. at qb.

So, I ain’t writin him off in advance. Myself. But I am also reserving judgement because there are so many unknowns this year, so far.

In looking at the last 30 Years of Rams…

    • Better than Spagnuolo, Linehan & Knox Round 2.
    • On par to slightly better than Brooks.
    • Not at all as good as Martz, Robinson or Vermeil.

The division has returned to the difficulty level of the past (Linehan and Spags blew the opportunity to capitalize on a weak division), but the biggest concern to me is there has been no growth in output. You could point to improvements in play last year over his first season, but the outcome was exactly the same. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we were 6-7 wins this year and I am not sure if I will ever see Fischer coach a 10+ win Rams squad.

So all that said 6.28318530718, or 2x pi.

Fisher peaks and valleys. It’s not really the case that he is a career 8-8 coach–that’s just averaging it out and erasing distinctions. Rather, he’s a career “3 consecutive winning seasons, 3 lesser seasons” coach. To me the difference is personnel.

    Right now? Quarterback.

But the QB isn’t to blame for lousy run defense or all the sloppy penalties.

No but time down in the pre-season is responsible for a lot of it, I think…another pattern.

Last year too, the run D started shakey, and the diagnosis was the same as now–gap discipline, basically.

Okay, well if the run defense comes together, I will raise his grade. Right now, 6.66. That’s final.
