    so i got a question. a lot of talk about the oline and they’ve done a good job. but then i read that stat that says goff has been under pressure 6th most in the nfl. so what am i missing? is it a credit to goff that he’s able to get rid of the ball quickly?

    What’s the source for the under pressure thing? Not doubting it (at all) just want to see the black n white. I have read that he has been blitzed at a high rate but that that is not having an effect.

    According to NFL.com, Goff has been hit 19 times and sacked 4. That combo, sacks/hits, = 23, and right now there are only 5 teams with an equal or lower number of combo sacks/hits (Tennessee, Oakland, Jacksonville, Tampa, New Orleans).

    But then I don;t now how that relates to what your source calls pressure.

    BTW, because it’s Seattle Week…Wilson has been sacked 10 times and hit 32 for a combo number of 42.

    you posted it on the goff game 4 thread.

    nfl matchup on espn.

    so it’s percentage of dropbacks. thing is rams are near the bottom in pass attempts. so while the total may be low the percentage is high. mcvay’s playcalling is having an effect.

    That’s true. But either ESPN is counting hurries, or their numbers are from before Dallas, or they don’t have the same numbers as NFL.com and/or vice versa. Because 23 of 123 is 18.7%. And 31% of 123 is 38.

    Problem is I don’t know where to find “hurries.” So I don’t know how to calculate this.

    this was posted october 2nd so i assume it includes dallas.

    it includes sacks, hurries, and hits.

    Then hurries is the thing.

    NFL.com doesn’t give numbers for that.

    ESPN doesn’t distribute those numbers to the public.

    But it’s an interesting thing that he has (apparently) 15 hurries on top of 4 sacks and 19 hits, because his overall completion percentage, even after the Dallas game, is good (66.7%, which is 8th in the league).

    BTW in case this isn’t clear, I am not arguing or nothin like that, just thinking out loud.

    that’s how i read it.

    makes me wonder what carroll’s plan is. do they drop guys in coverage? make it harder for goff to find clear passing lanes. but then i’m assuming mcvay’s plan is to pound the ball with plenty of play action.

    whatever the case this should be a good learning experience for goff.

    Apparently that’s what Dallas did. And in fact it visibly slowed Goff down a bit and dropped his completion percentage from 70-something percent from the first 3 games to 58-something percent in that game. It also opened up things for Gurley.

    i assume seattle will be better at it than dallas. this should be a difficult game for goff. whether they win will be dependent on gurley being able to run it down their throats and the defense playing much better.

    but for goff, i think this will be one of those games that he learns from. but this is good. he needs games like this to get better.
