So after reviewing my DTV bill, I decided to call and complain about the incremental increases over the past two years. I was paying $128 a month for a basic package. No HBO, Showtime, etc. The first guy I get is the overseas dude, who after getting my billing info calls me “Mr. Jeff.” (lots of foreign peeps have problems with my Norwegian last name form some reason) I tell him this and he wants to know what I watch.

“News and sports. That’s it. And my daughter just bought me a Roku box which I think I’m going to use and ditch DTV. It’ll save me about $80 per month. Right on script, Mr. Overseas Dude ships me to an “account specialist.”

Now I’m talking to an American and I tell her what I told Mr. Overseas. Including the Roku part. The rep offers a reduced package which includes the regional sports programs that carries the Sharks and Giants. $67.50. Perfect…then I say, “Throw in NFL Sunday Ticket for free and you’ve got a deal.” It was only a year commitment, too.

Done deal. I just saved almost $900 in ten minutes. It’s like stealing. Anyone with DTV and wants The Ticket should try this.

Well, obviously the catch there is that they gave you the Sharks and Giants which sucks. You should have held out for the Kings and Dodgers, but you still got a good deal in spite of that.

I assume your overseas dude was Indian. When I was a teacher in Kathmandu, students called me “Mr. Jeff” all the time, and the other teachers “Miss Jill” and “Miss Daina,” etc. That’s the way they do it because they do that in their own language with each other. They don’t call people by their last names there. That’s a western thing.
