How does one explain this…’win’ thing?

Did Detroit come not-to-play ? Were they flat
as pancakes? Two bad teams, someone has to win?
Keenum make a difference?

The D only gives up 14. Not bad.

Perhaps i will actually watch this “win” thing
on Replay.

Defense was great. Had Stafford off on his throws. The second half, Gurley got unleashed. Keenum didn’t make any major mistakes in spite of a shaky pocket. (His one INT was a “hit as you throw” thing that was at the end of the half and inconsequential.) Austin made some crucial big plays too.

Aaron Donald was unblockable today. Tomlinson really struggled.

Donald and his cronies made it difficult for Stafford. This really helped Johnson keep Megatron under off of the radar. Johnson played well too though.

Another thing that fueled a win—I thought a depleted secondary would be an issue. It wasn’t. Alexander while not all that active at the level we’re used to from McD, held his own. And Roberson came through, in a couple of cases quite dramatically.

I haven’t watched the game yet–just saw the highlights but I think it’s great that they were able to get Gurley going. I think it’s important for his confidence AND their confidence that they can run him.

The offense clearly has a long way to go but I’ll just enjoy this one.

Yeah I share that way of lookin at it. My view is, a win is a win, and always enjoy a win.

On Sundays, I don’t care about the draft, the record, the coaching debates, the player controversies. I just enjoy wins when they win.

The cloudy hardcore realistic issues can wait till Monday.

The Aaron Donald effect? Stafford had no passes thrown 20+ yards downfield. He had career-high 14 screen passes, 5 more than any other game. Per Wagoner

at the very least it seems the rams have a true superstar on offense. haven’t been able to say that in a long time.

It looked a lot like how they won earlier in the season, and how they are going to have to win, period. Great defense, minimize mistakes, cause some big turnovers and keep pounding the ball until the opposing D gives up a hole here and there for Gurley to truck through. When Gurley has one guy to beat on the second level, that’s when the Rams are scary.

Chris Long was more of a factor, I thought, even though he didn’t finish off any big plays. He was getting a good push on the edge. But, yeah, Donald. He was a beast. If you don’t have an answer for slowing down Donald, it’s gonna be long day for any QB. That makes me smile. Damn, too bad Quinn got hurt this year.

Keenum can win this type of game, which is good. But, yeah, without great defense — hell, the D scored 7 points thanks to TruJo — this team will struggle to win due to its lack of passing game and patchwork O-line.

Btw, anyone notice much difference at all in how the game was called with Boras? I didn’t.

Well they can’t change the offense, but they can change how they respond to situations with this or that playcall. But you’re right that’s hard to notice.

I think the main difference was, there were just fewer mistakes. Part of firing Cigz was just a shock treatment. Wake up call.

Yeah, I think the ‘wake up call’ was the biggest part of it. The offense still has massive problems but at least now they have enough offense to suffice against teams like Tampa and San Francisco as long as they continue to get great performances from the defense.

Seattle will be an ugly loss but they should be able to finish the season on a relatively strong note.

Okay–I watched the game. Some thoughts:

Case Keenum: He gets the ball out faster than Foles. And it seems to make a difference. His arm isn’t great by any measure but it’s good enough for what this team wants to do. His mobility is a true asset–especially with this offensive line.They moved him a lot and I just don’t think they could have done that effectively with the clunky Nick Foles. Do I think he can be THE guy? And when I say THE guy, I mean that “game manager” type? I kind of do–but the question is still if the Rams should settle for that kind of guy.

Greg Robinson: I know, I know. My weekly punching bag. But I am just disgusted with his performance week in and week out. Seriously, a chop block? He doesn’t know what a chop block is? And if he does–why on earth would he do that? It wasn’t necessary in the least to save the QB. I think he just saw a stationary guy who was engaged he could hit so he thought–“Hey look what I found?” Well, he didn’t find much of anyone else on pass protection. He could be seen clawing after the guy as the guy flew past him. Just horrible.

This offense would be so much more efficient just by replacing him. He screws up more than he helps. I HOPE he can play guard.

Todd Gurley: I was so happy for him. He needed that in the worst way. The line opened some slightly bigger holes and that’s all he needed. I don’t know what Boras did differently but just get this guy a little opening–just a sliver and he’ll do the rest. An amazing talent.

Anyway–it felt good to get a win again. As for draft status? Eh. No sure thing anyway. And as a Sixers fan(annual tankers for constant draft picks)they are not watchable. The Rams will still have a decent choice and with the extra second they’ll be in good position this draft. Last time I checked there was no Peyton Manning available so they don’t particularly need the first pick.

But I’d like to see them leave this year on a more positive note and get some things going.

Three games left and I have no idea what will happen but I feel better about their chances for winning one or two of them than I did before the Lions game.

I feel like Boras started out the game emphasizing really quick, short passes to begin the game. Getting that 8 man front to think about something else besides Gurley. Then he gave Gurley the rock…..

at least that’s what I think happened. Or maybe it was just in my head

Special teams, punt coverage was also a factor in this game….
Fisher ball needs field position to succeed and the punt coverage team pinned Detroit few times.

Good point. Hekker had a great game.

Too bad there was another phantom call on a Tavon Austin punt return. That was a really nice return. I still don’t know what exactly was spotted on that play.
