Of course, you “get” it. I think a lot of magicians have to feel frustrated that magic is considered somewhat of a joke. Yes–a lot of people can appreciate a good trick but many people could care less and as an art it seems to be on the lower rung of respect compared to a signer or dancer or musician. But if you do this as a hobby you begin to get a real appreciation for the skill involved–all parts of it–from the presentation to the mechanics. The amazing ideas that magicians have developed over the years I have always found very clever and when a really good performer performs live with a deck of cards right in front of you–wow. Even though I know what’s happening on most tricks I see now(but certainly not all–and that’s great)I am still amazed.
When I watch someone who has perfected something like a greek deal I feel floored.
Yes–there is way too much crappy magic on the internet and there is not much worse than bad magic. I appreciate the comments but I will never be polished enough to be as good as the top guys but I love to watch them.
