should the Rams still draft a qb?

Absolutely, yes. There is no position in the NFL more important than QB, and it’s not even close. The best teams have a good one.

I say draft one every year. At least one.

Yup.

The QB’s may have changed, but the need hasn’t.

Not sold on Mannion at all and I’m an Oregon State alum. He’s slow to make decisions and throw the ball.

Good size, arm strength and decent velocity, but a little too much of a statue.

Just don’t think he will ever be better than a below average backup.

Connor Cook*, QB, Michigan State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 218.
Projected 40 Time: 4.85.
Projected Round (2015): 1-2.
2/9/15: Cook completed 58 percent of his passes in 2014 for 3,214 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

League sources identified Cook as a potential high first-round pick. He needs improve certain aspects of his game to meet that grade though, mainly accuracy. Cook has proven to NFL evaluators that he has a big arm, pocket presence, the mobility to avoid rushers and roll out, and the ability to make some precision throws. Cook plays in a pro-style system and has shown steady improvement with his ability to function out of the pocket while working through his progressions.

Cook has oftenn thrown the ball better than his numbers illustrate. He can make some amazingly accurate throws into extremely tight windows for completions downfield, but also has some inconsistency with his accuracy on the routine passes and when going deep down the middle. Cook has to improve his footwork, which in turn will help his accuracy.

The junior finished 29-of-47 for 343 yards with two scores and two picks against Oregon in 2014. One interception wasn’t his fault, but the other was a bad throw. It wasn’t a perfect game, but Cook showed a lot of what the pros are looking for.

8/27/14: 2013 was Cook’s first year as the full-time starter, and he got off to a slow start before coming on strong in the second half of the season to help lead the Spartans to a Big Ten title and victory over Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Cook completed 58.7 percent of his passes for 2,755 yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions for the year. He had great games against Ohio State (24-40 for 304 with 3 touchdowns, 1 interception) and Stanford (22-36 for 332 yards with 2 touchdown, 1 interception) to close out the season.

Cook is generally a good decision-maker who has the size, arm and field vision to be a good pocket passer. He should be even better now that he has a year of experience. Becoming a first-round prospect isn’t out of the question for Cook, but skipping the 2015 NFL Draft and returning for his senior season of college football could help him achieve that.

Cardale Jones*, QB, Ohio State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 250.
Projected 40 Time: 4.75.
Projected Round (2016): 1-2.
2/9/15: Jones put on a display in 2014 after entering the starting lineup behind Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett. Jones has great size and a cannon for an arm. In his three starts, he completed 61 percent of his passes for 860 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. Jones has a ton of upside and it will be fun to watch him in 2015, assuming he wins the starting job over J.T. Barrett.

Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 234.
Projected 40 Time: 4.87.
Projected Round (2016): 1-2.
2/9/15: Hackenberg completed 56 percent of his passes in 2014 for 2,677 yards with 12 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He played better than the numbers indicate as his supporting cast was a huge liability, including an awful offensive line. Hackenberg closed out the 2014 season with a huge comeback overtime win over Boston College, completing 34-of-50 for 371 yards and four touchdowns.

Hackenberg was the star recruit for Bill O’Brien and proved the hype legit during an impressive freshman season that saw him named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Hackenberg completed 59 percent of his passes for 2,955 yards with 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2013. He also ran for four touchdowns. Hackenberg has great size, a strong arm, pocket presence and is very advanced in his field vision.

WalterFootball.com has heard from sources in the NFL that Hackenberg could end up being an elite quarterback prospect.

Dak Prescott*, QB, Mississippi State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 230.
Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
Projected Round (2015): 1-3.
2/9/15: Prescott completed 61 percent of his passes in 2014 for 3,449 yards with 27 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry for 986 yards with 14 scores on the ground. Prescott had an underwhelming game against Alabama, but that was really the only game of the season in which he struggled.

Prescott’s play has been somewhat reminiscent of Tim Tebow at Florida because Prescott is playing in the same offense for Tebow’s former offensive coordinator, Dan Mullen, the Mississippi State head coach. Like Tebow, Prescott needs to improve his pocket passing and accuracy for the NFL.

In 2013, Prescott completed 58 percent of his passes for 940 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Jonathan Goff, QB, California
Height: 6-4. Weight: 210.
Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
Projected Round (2016): 1-3.
2/8/14: Goff enjoyed a breakout 2014 season. The sophomore completed 62 percent of his passes for 3,973 yards with 35 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Goff displayed real pocket-passing potential while playing with a less-than-ideal supporting cast. He became the starter as a freshman in 2013 and completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,508 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Tennessee Titans: Joey Bosa, DE/DT, Ohio State
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Marcus Mariota, QB

Joey Bosa has dominated college football this past year and would definitely be a top-five pick in this year’s class if he were draft-eligible. He’s not, so the Titans would strongly consider him at No. 1 overall, as he could provide a big boost to their porous defense.

New York Jets: Cardale Jones, QB, Ohio State
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Trae Waynes, CB

Cardale Jones would’ve been a second-round prospect had he declared for the 2015 NFL Draft. There was a chance he would’ve gone late in the first via a team trading up, but he probably would’ve been relegated to the second frame.

That will hardly be the case in the 2016 NFL Draft. If Jones starts and continues to thrive, he’ll be a top-five selection, and he could potentially go No. 1 overall. He has way too much upside and natural talent, displaying Ben Roethlisberger- or Daunte Culpepper-type ability.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Leonard Williams, DE/DT

David Caldwell’s analytics have told him that the right tackle position is very valuable in determining a quarterback’s success. So, even though he spent the No. 2 selection on Luke Joeckel a year ago, he could easily use another top pick on a tackle. Laremy Tunsil is expected to be the top tackle available for the 2016 NFL Draft, and he could really help improve Blake Bortles’ awful protection.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Robert Nkemdiche, DE, Ole Miss
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Jameis Winston, QB

The Buccaneers have whiffed on some defensive end prospects, but they’re almost certain to hit with this one. They desperately need to find another pass-rusher to complement Gerald McCoy, who is currently the only Tampa player who can consistently get to the quarterback.

Washington Redskins: Vernon Hargreaves, CB, Florida
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Danny Shelton, NT

Few words can appropriately describe the incompetence of Washington’s secondary. Let’s just say that even after a night of partying and rolling $20s in bathrooms, Johnny Manziel might be able to look like an actual NFL quarterback against that unit. The Redskins would love to land a prospect as talented as Vernon Hargreaves to fix their defensive backfield.

Chicago Bears: Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Dante Fowler, DE/OLB

Christian Hackenberg had a rough sophomore campaign, but he has all the talent in the world. He was great in the bowl game, so perhaps that’s a sign of things to come. If Hackenberg has a strong 2015 season, he’ll be in top-five consideration, and the Bears certainly could use him once they jettison the heartless Jay Cutler.

Minnesota Vikings: Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Amari Cooper, WR

Matt Kalil was a human turnstile this past season, but he was playing through an injury. If he continues to struggle next year, the Vikings will have to seek out a new blind-side protector for Teddy Bridgewater. Ronnie Stanley may have been the No. 5 overall pick had he declared for the 2015 NFL Draft.

Oakland Raiders: Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Kevin White, WR

Much like Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon this year, Ezekiel Elliott is a first-round prospect despite the fact that the running back position has been devalued. Elliott, who was amazing in Ohio State’s championship run, could be a stud back for the Raiders, who will need to upgrade the position if Latavius Murray doesn’t impress in 2015.

St. Louis Rams: Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Brandon Scherff, OT/G

I have the Rams picking Dorial Green-Beckham in the second round of my 2015 NFL Mock Draft, but if they don’t address the receiver position this offseason, they may search for a No. 1 wideout the following spring. They definitely need one, as all of their receivers are No. 2 options or worse.

San Francisco 49ers: Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Breshad Perriman, WR

Here’s a cornerback for a team in need of one. Perrish Cox, an impending free agent, saw his play regress as the 2014 season went on. He needs to be upgraded.

Dallas Cowboys: Nate Andrews, S, Florida State
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Eli Harold, DE/OLB

Multiple upgrades need to be made to a secondary that made Colt McCoy look like a Pro Bowl quarterback during a Monday night game. The Cowboys have a huge hole at the safety position.

Cleveland Browns: Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Malcom Brown, DE/DT and Andrus Peat, OT

I don’t think the Browns will be taking a quarterback in the first round of the draft this year, as owner Jimmy Haslam foolishly believes in a quarterback who rolls $20s in bathrooms. Perhaps Haslam will change his tune once he sees how awful Johnny Manziel is over a larger sample size of games.

Cincinnati Bengals: Myles Jack, LB/RB, UCLA
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Alvin Dupree, DE/OLB

The Bengals currently have some issues at linebacker, as they could use some better talent around Vontaze Burfict, especially with Rey Maualuga heading into free agency.

Atlanta Falcons: Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Vic Beasley, DE/OLB

Roddy White is still an effective player, but will that still be the case a year from now? White, after all, will turn 35 during the midway point of the 2016 season. The Falcons may want to find a long-term No. 2 receiver across from Julio Jones.

San Diego Chargers: Chris Jones, DE/DT, Mississippi State
2015 NFL Mock Draft Pick (as of 3/3): Todd Gurley, RB

Save for Corey Liuget, San Diego’s defensive line was a disappointment this past year, so this is one area the front office will consider addressing in the next couple of offseasons.

New York Giants: A’Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama

The Giants never properly replaced Linval Joseph. Johnathan Hankins enjoyed a terrific season, but he needs some help next to him, as Mike Patterson is in major decline.

Plus, why wouldn’t they want fierce competition for the starting QB spot? Just hand it over to Foles?

Agreed. Need to draft a QB that can eventually be the starter.

If the Rams think Foles is a ‘can’t miss’ then that’s what they are.

Must draft a QB.

The problem with taking a QB this year isn’t whether to take one or not. It’s always great to have a young guy on the roster who could develop into something special or at least serviceable. The problem is WHERE do you take him. I think that a lot of us were disappointed when the Rams waited and waited last year to take a QB–holding off to the late rounds after all the good prospects were gone.

I’m not sure there ARE really good prospects this year and I’d hate to pick them ahead of their value and since the Rams have Foles I don’t think they have to reach in that second round for one of them. I’d be even hesitant in the third round. I’m not sure there is that much separation from one of these guys to the next.

If they can hold off until round 4 and take one that would be fantastic. Last year would have been a better year for reaching higher. They have Foles and they have Keenum. None of these young guys will be ready this year. On the other hand, having the luxury of using the first pick for Amari Cooper and then still being able to load up on linemen with the next two rounds would be more appealing to me than having to take that lineman in round 1 so that you can take Brett Hundley in round 2.

But I’m not at all sold on these QBs so that has something to do with it for me. If I really liked these guys I would be more inclined to take one higher.

So, yes.

Take a QB.

But not too soon.

I’d take Mariota if he is there at 10 exactly because he wouldn’t have to play this year. The kid is smart and will put in the work during a redshirt year.

I wouldn’t take any other QB in this draft earlier than the 4th round. I just don’t see any of them as being great prospects.
