    I can imagine there are not many fans in LA or nationally who do not know the name of Dick Enberg. I was so lucky as a young sports fan to get to listen to this man as the play by play announcer for the Rams and the television play by play man for the great John Wooden’s UCLA teams with Kareem Abdul Jabbar and he was also the voice of Angels baseball.

    Dick and former Rams great Merlin Olsen became the top announcing team for NBC on the nationally televised pro football games. They did 8 Super Bowls together.

    Listening to Enberg’s exciting play by play of Rams games is something I will always remember.

    Very cool to hear that voice, the one that seemed to say Deacon Jones on every play back when I was 8 or 9yrs old. I grew up in L.A. as well.

    I had the same experience. The only radio we had until I was 12 was the family car radio so I’d sit in my parents 66 BelAire station wagon and listen to the game. They bought me a radio for Christmas when I was 12 and I wore that thing out listening to the Dodgers, Angels, Rams and Lakers in the late sixties and early seventies. Gawd how I loved to listen to Enberg, Vinny, Jerry Dogget, and Chicky Baby.

    I know sdram, I know. Listening to Enberg call Rams games is part of the reason I think I became a Rams fan. He was very exciting to listen to. Enberg, Scully and Hearn. Man we were blessed were we not?

    The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.

    Chick Hearn voice of the LA Lakers for 3338 consecutive games 1965 – 2002.

    Chicky Baby was a nickname given to Hearn by his former color analyst, former Laker player Rod Hundley.

    If you’re a hockey fan you would add Hall of Famer Bob Miller, who’s done Kings’ games for the past 41 yrs.

    Something of those guys had (or have) in common is they gave a very objective view of the games they broadcast, something you just don’t hear much today.
