Rookie corner Robert Rochell is back at practice and in pads today, about a week after his wrist surgery. Got a hard brace/cast for extra safety. Not seeing Terrell Lewis today as the Rams do continue to manage his knee/workload. Doesn’t mean an “injury”; just management
Rams backup QB John Wolford is on campus at Irvine today after last week’s appendectomy. Seems to be doing great! Not sure how much he’ll participate today but him already being back in time for the pre-practice lifting sessions seems positive.
Both Justin Hollins and Obo Okoronkwo have had great camps and offer a really interesting rush package in complement with Terrell Lewis, opposite Leonard Floyd. If they can establish a consistent rotation, will be hard for OL to get into a rhythm against the combo of players
I’ve posted a lot about Hopkins but the gist is: Gained a lot of good weight, it seems like, (less of the Harris build now and more of a traditional TE build) and repping in a ton with the twos and on special teams. Your main TE pass catchers will still be Higbee and Harris with a little Mundt sprinkled in there as Harris also will align in WR positions.
I’d be surprised if they put [Allen] at starting center considering Corbett took the mass share of reps with Stafford through the spring and summer and I would probably criticize the Rams for still not having a set plan at that crucial position, if that were the case…more so I think figuring out where he is best, because they like him, don’t think he’s a bad player, good teammate etc…would be kind of stunning to see them switch again. But also I know he has worked some at guard!

CAMP REPORT AUG 9
Seeing Allen at C and Corbet at RG was a shock. But even more shocking was all the different looks the O line had. It was almost like they had a pass blocking line when it was a pass play and then changed out everybody on the O line for a run play. Lots of players getting lots of different looks.
K. Orr is something else! What a great pick up by the Rams staff. Pass break ups, pass defended, almost intercepted one on Higbee.
Van Jefferson is light years ahead of last year! He runs great routes, gets good separation and when he is covered tight, high points the ball and comes down with the contested catches. Some of his moves are impressive. He’s breaking a lot of DB’s ankles out there.
Jake Funk is just fun to watch! He ran one in from about 8 yards out, good cuts, balance and fast. No one really touched him. I guess we could give credit to the O line for it’s blocking scheme.
D Henderson broke off a long run due to some excellent blocking that created a huge hole up the middle.I think today the D won. Had a few sacks, a couple of tipped balls and plenty of pass break ups. The O had it’s moments as previously stated, but I felt today was the first day that my Rams may actually be human and not all have super powers! We’re going to win a lot of games but we will also lose some in the process. My prediction? 13-4 at the best and 11-6 at our worst.
August 10, 2021 at 7:21 am #131411canadaramParticipantEven with the positive reports, I’m still skeptical that Jacob Harris can make a quick transition from WR at UCF to TE in the NFL. I don’t see that as an easy switch for a rookie. His physical attributes sure are exciting though, but I’m curious as to why he wasn’t more of a contributor to his college offense. I would have bet anything that Hopkins would be getting more reps than Harris this year. Intrigued to see how things pan out.
I’ve been uneasy about the Rams interior offensive line since they made Atwell their second round pick. This camp report about Allen switching it at C doesn’t do anything ease my concerns. Hopefully I’m overreacting and it’s just the Rams trying different combinations for the sake of being prudent.
August 10, 2021 at 1:01 pm #131420znModeratorDo the LA Rams have a center controversy on their hands? It seems that Brian Allen has re-entered the starting conversation https://t.co/WnuW1yCwnM

Bryce Perkins threw one up to the corner of the end zone during goal line period.
“Surely that is too high,” I thought. Then I saw Jacob Harris jump up…up…up…TD. Whoa.August 11, 2021 at 12:17 am #131451znModeratorJ.B. Long@JB_Long
Jacob Harris has me believing the Rams TE room has a chance to improve, not regress, in 2021. And even as I type that, I’m incredulous. Mundt’s performance also factors into that statement.Rookie LB Ernest Jones continues to show up more and more often. A red zone INT during 7-on-7 work.
Whatever cautious expectations I may have had for Desean Jackson and his potential role, he’s easily surpassed them in this Rams camp.
(Well aware that external skepticism doesn’t have anything to do with August contributions.)
File this one away and we can circle back to check it in 2022…
I’ll be surprised if Matthew Stafford doesn’t enjoy career-best levels of separation and YAC from his Rams targets this season.

Little blurb from Sean McVay: It’ll almost be like playing ‘Where’s Waldo’ for the opposing offense, in terms of finding out where Jalen (Ramsey) will be.August 12, 2021 at 6:12 pm #131493znModeratorStock up, stock down from Rams training camp: Allen and Jackson rising, Lewis falling
* https://theramswire.usatoday.com/lists/rams-training-camp-stock-up-down-best-worst-players/
The Rams wrapped up training camp at UC Irvine on Tuesday afternoon, their 10th and final practice on campus. They now head back to Thousand Oaks as they prepare for their first preseason game, which is on Saturday against the Chargers.
There’s still time to sort out position battles and figure out who on the roster bubble will wind up making the team, but camp helped provide a lot of clarity on the Rams’ current collection of players.
Here’s a stock report from camp, highlighting those who are rising and pointing out players who are heading in the wrong direction.
1
Stock up: C Brian AllenIn the final two days of camp, Allen managed to go from clear backup to current starter at center. He took first-team reps on Monday and Tuesday before Sean McVay told reporters at the end of camp that he would be the team’s starting center over Austin Corbett if they were to play a game right now.
McVay even went as far as to say he was one of the Rams’ standouts in camp. Now healthy again, Allen seems poised to start in Week 1.
2
Stock down: OLB Terrell LewisLewis just can’t seem to stay healthy. He was held out of practice this week after his knee started acting up again, as McVay described it. The second-year pass rusher didn’t have his name called often during camp and is clearly behind Justin Hollins opposite Leonard Floyd at outside linebacker. It seems he’s destined for a similar role as he had last season, coming into the game situationally as a pass rusher.
3
Stock up: WR DeSean JacksonThere were plenty of doubters and skeptics when the Rams signed Jackson to a one-year deal worth $4.5 million this offseason, but he’s looked fantastic in camp. Seemingly every day he’s making catches deep down the field for touchdowns, proving he still has that top-end speed and can threaten defenses. Expect him to play a big role on offense this season, assuming he’s able to stay healthy.
4
Stock down: TE Brycen HopkinsThe Rams have shared plenty of highlights of Tyler Higbee and Jacob Harris making plays, and we know Johnny Mundt has been getting reps with the second team, looking like the No. 2 tight end. But Hopkins had a very quiet camp, similar to the way his rookie year went. He’s listed as the third tight end on the depth chart, but it’s hard to see him having much of a role this season, especially if Harris keeps rising the way he has.
5
Stock up: ILB Kenny YoungYoung has emerged as a likely starter for the Rams at inside linebacker, which is a pleasant surprise. They need a steady player at that position after cycling through guys last season, and Young has previous experience as a starter with the Ravens. He still has to earn the starting spot and it remains to be seen who will be the Rams’ third-down linebacker in nickel and dime packages, but Young really stepped up in camp.
6
Stock down: RG Bobby Evans(AP Photo/Kyusung Gong)
McVay has said glowing things about Allen and Corbett, clearly stating that if Allen starts at center, Corbett will be the right guard. He mentioned that Evans is a guy they have confidence in to come in and play if needed, but he hasn’t earned a starting job on the offensive line. In fact, it might be Evans’ play that has led the Rams to move Corbett to right guard and bumping Allen up to the starting role. Evans is a good player, but he still has room to improve as a guard.
7
Stock up: RB Xavier JonesMcVay said Tuesday that he thinks Jones is “going to carve out a role for himself” and someone the Rams are “expecting to count on throughout the season.” That’s high praise for the second-year back, and it seems he’s poised to emerge as Darrell Henderson Jr.’s backup. McVay added that Jones is aware and willing in pass protection, a crucial part of playing the position, especially if he’s going to be a third-down back for the Rams. Jake Funk has also done a nice job and impressed McVay, but Jones has received a lot of high marks from the coach.
8
Stock down: ILB Christian RozeboomRozeboom is an intriguing player but one who’s fallen behind a bit at outside linebacker. Ernest Jones had a good camp, as did Young and Travin Howard. Micah Kiser and Troy Reeder don’t seem to be going anywhere, either, making Rozeboom the sixth linebacker. That’s probably not enough to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, unless he can vault Kiser, Reeder or Howard in the preseason. He could be destined for another year on the practice squad if he doesn’t make the 53-man team.

A few post-camp thoughts:
1. Funk. That’s all that needs to be said. He will make a difference.
2. Jones. Is not a starting caliber RB. Change of pace, yes. Tough runner, not a chance.
3. Calais. Spot filler. PR. Not enough bulk to be an every down back.
4. Higbee. He will stay and be the featured TE.
5. Mundt. Actually a bubble player, not enough of anything to keep him around. Yes, blocks well, has improved his catches but, not enough for me to keep him.
6. Hopkins. Such a sad story. I see no desire in him. See Ya.
7. Harris. Let him grow with us. An awesome weapon.
8. Skow. Can not let this guy attempt to clear waivers for the practice squad.
9. Woods, Kupp, Jefferson, Jackson. Roster locks. Jefferson is going to surprise a lot of you!
10. O-line. I have no idea after Mondays practice. Allen has come alive. Anchrum I think deserves a chance on the 53.
11. DEFENSE. I don’t know with the exception of the known players like Donald, Ramsey, Williams.
12. Worlford. He is #2. I think that Perkins is a solid #3.
This has been a very good TC for the rookie 2021 draft class. All of them flashed at some point with some more so than others. Several have been standouts. Rochell, Harris, Funk, and E. Jones look to get significant snaps this year. Tutu, Ernest Brown and Bobby Brown, and Benny Sko have shown they will be part of the regular roster rotation next year with solid camp practices. Only Garrett has had a relatively quiet camp but probably has shown enough from what I hear to make the roster. To hit on all your draft choices with potential starts and future key rotational players in one draft class is outstanding. When you look at the possible future elite players in Harris and Rochell they alone would make most drafts successful, so to get 4 standouts in one draft is about as good as you can get.
