canadaramParticipantI super duper dislike Seattle, so I am super duper happy about beating them in the playoffs. I didn’t expect a playoff win, so the injuries while a definite problem aren’t dampening my mood at all.
January 9, 2021 at 9:53 pm #126615PA RamParticipantOne other thing I want to say is that I thought McVay coached one if his best games since he has been coach. He knew what this game was, and he made good decisions(with the possible exception of his challenges). This was a very impressive team win.

also. media going wild saying goff was benched. i don’t buy it. guy had thumb surgery. mcvay didn’t want to risk it unless he absolutely had to. and it was obvious goff wasn’t at full strength.

CalParticipantI love this defense that the Rams have put together! With this D and Akers running well, the Rams will be a tough out in the playoffs.
Hopefully, the offense will look a little better with Whitworth back. I thought it was also interesting that Evans came in at LG instead of Noteboom.
I wonder if McVay has ever toyed around or entertained the idea of using Ramsey on offense? That offense could really use a little more speed to threaten defenses.

Eternal RamnationParticipantWilliams with pick 6 on a WR screen! Only a handful of players that could ever pull that off and most of them are on the 2020/21 Rams. Goff is one tough dude. As gutsy a showing as I can remember. The defense is crazy deep. Watching that game took me back to 3rd grade listening to Deacan Jones and Merlin Olsen crushing opponents. Watching this defense is like watching GSOT when they got going . It’s just different. Akers is getting better and better. Mcvay seems to be returning to his former self . Watching that game was a blast. Last but not least loved Goff’s post game comments about cigar smoking celebratory Seahawks .

Why?
Because, once again, the Rams failed to take care of business in Seattle.
Yes, the Rams won the game, and afterwards the Seahawks players limped off the field battered, beaten, dejected…but alive.
That’s right. They still live.

What is he special at?Akers does have special skills but they don’t glare at you highlight style.
First he does have good vision. In fact, top vision. He’s perfect for a zone scheme since the zbs basically asks the back to look for daylight, make choices, and explode into it. He’s good at that.
He also has something that all 3 of the Rams backs have–excellent contact balance. Initial contact rarely drops him. This makes him great in traffic.
But, he has amazingly quick feet, so he’s shifty in traffic too.
Combine that with some tenacity and a bit of strength/power.
The sum of that, he is just always going to be going forward getting yards. He’s not super elusive or high-end fast (though he’s fast enough), but the main thing is, you keep running him into defenses stacked against the running game and he just… keeps… getting… yards.
He’s not in the same class as Dickerson, Faulk, Jackson or Gurley. But he’s a top back and it would not surprise me at all to see him get Gurley-like numbers, even if he won’t have the same kind of highlight reel open field runs.

That pick 6 was a bone-breaker. Best since Robertson’s. Thing of beauty.
After solidly beating TB and NE, the Rams moved way up the Power Rankings, and looked like a serious SB contender. But… the wheels loosened somehow – a mental lapse against NYJ – and karma started to address the injury imbalance.
The Rams will go as far as this defense can take it, but like wv, I don’t think it’s the Promised Land. Three playoff games on the road? We haven’t seen this team put together a streak like that this year, and now they are busted up at QB, and the Donald Watch has begun in earnest. But given the way the season ended, and the injuries, I will take that very solid win against Seattle on the road as putting this season back in the black. We are on house money now, in my view.
The defense made Seattle suffer, and that was gratifying. Feels like the Rams took back the division crown.
Looking ahead (wrong thread for this, I guess), I have been told the Rams match up well against the Packers. But it is in Green Bay, and they are rested while the Rams are in the first aid tent.
