In some ways the horrific times for blacks then explains that how in a relatively short period of time (today) the remnants of that prejudice still exist. And its likely to continue albeit declining but slower than it should. Maybe the grandkids of our young adults will be able to live in a relative racist free society. But not in my lifetime or yours.
