ZooeyModeratorActually as it happens I’ve heard this concept before. Mastering fire and so cooking food gave us more and more easily consumed nutrients, thereby providing the energy we need to power larger brains.
It’s fascinating.
But I see you avoided mention of Sui Juris Ram, who, as I recall, used to let his chicken start to spoil before he ate it. Raw.
Then, without warning, he quit posting.
ZooeyModeratorAdams says McVay isn’t someone who ridicules his players for making mistakes, which he appreciates.
“He’s got energy, but it’s all legit. It’s real,” he added. “You can feel him. You just love being around his energy. Even when you don’t do things right, you may have messed something up, you don’t feel that, like, ‘Oh, my coach is going to come down on me.’ He’s going to correct you and he’s going to hold you accountable, but it’s just a different feeling in that building right now, for sure.”
This stuff coming from Adams is fascinating. If being happy with an environment is a contributor to success, Adams…is in the right environment.

ZooeyModeratorI did not see that coming.
I wonder what Sui Juris Ram would make of this.
ZooeyModeratorRanking all 32 Receiving Corps in the NFL
Aiyuk, Pearsall, and Kittle are better than Nacua, Adams, and Higbee? Yeah, I don’t think so.
ZooeyModeratorI agree that that doesn’t honestly represent what we usually mean by “continued investment.”
I think many of us expected them to draft one or two guys.
ZooeyModeratorThe Rams’ continued investment in their offensive line helps his cause.”
Humphries and Shelton?
I guess so.
ZooeyModeratorShe’s going to write best-sellers and take a place next to Michael Silver, Peter King, and so on. She’s the best football writer of her generation….
Better than Fast Eddy?
w
vFast Eddie was in Jim Murray’s generation, and he was promising up until his abduction by aliens.
I still blame Janet Jackson for that.
ZooeyModeratorDo you remember the time a few years ago when you could sense that many male football fans did not take women reporters or analysts seriously?
As much as anything else, I think that was a by-product of the fact that for many, many years, the only women who broke the glass ceiling into sports reporting were hired because of how they looked in a little black dress, rather than because they had anything to say about football. Male football fans were groomed to not take women reporters seriously because they weren’t serious reporters. Still true of most of the sideline reporters.
Jourdan loves football. And she’s intelligent and articulate. She asks interesting questions and pays attention to the answers. I’m sure the players and coaches appreciate her for that, too. She’s not a “What was going through your head on that last play right before you made the catch?” kind of reporter. She probably understood what Cooper Kupp said to that sideline reporter a few years ago.
And Jim Murray WAS the best Rams reporter prior to Rodrigue, but he was from a different era, and what he did really well was paint pictures with words. Jourdan writes well, but her analysis and ability to explain, to connect dots, to provide deep insight into the deep currents of the team and the game are simply unparalleled.
We all knew she was inevitably going to get promoted to the national stage. It was only a matter of time. If I was managing the staff at The Athletic, I would have made the same move. Jourdan is brilliant.
ZooeyModeratorWeird thing is, I’m not sure her new role will play to her strengths as a writer and journalist.
Did you read or hear the whole thing she did about the McVay-tree coaches? (Tree coaching is a complicated business). Or her long piece about how the Rams draft? It really does look like she has “trends in the NFL” type articles in her. She does a lot of research and is well regarded by the national analyst/reporter types because of it.
She’s going to write best-sellers and take a place next to Michael Silver, Peter King, and so on. She’s the best football writer of her generation, and she’s going to become a household name among NFL fans nationwide.
ZooeyModeratorWelp. We knew this was going to happen. She’s a HOFer. There are only a handful of writers who are that good, and they all leave the local beats eventually.
ZooeyModeratorPARAM
Another question is DJ Humphries. Many fans feel he’s not that good. But I have to wonder. The guy started 80 games for Arizona from 2018-2022. Drafted in the first round (#24) they picked up his 5th year option and he subsequently earned two more contract extensions with the Cardinals, making the Pro Bowl in 2021. Are we judging him on how he looked vs Aaron Donald and the Rams? Furthermore, don’t we consider our OL coach one of the up and coming stars in the NFL? Is it possible, he could make Humphries even better?
He is probably the best #3 OT on the roster, and there was a need there. Most of us thought the Rams would be drafting that position. Humphries is probably better than “Fine” as a fill-in.

ZooeyModeratorTerron Armstead: I’m OK never having to face Jared Verse again
from Josh Alper at Pro Football Talk:
Rams edge rusher Jared Verse said recently that he thinks he has a lot of room to improve on his performance from his rookie season, but one seasoned NFL offensive lineman thinks he’s already pretty hard to handle.
Terron Armstead retired this offseason after spending 12 seasons as a left tackle for the Saints and Dolphins, so he’s seen a lot of pass rushers come and go. Verse was one of them during a 2024 game between the Dolphins and the Rams and Verse was the first player to come to mind when Armstead was asked which players he won’t miss playing against during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
“That young boy Jared Verse? I’m cool,” Armstead said. “I’m good, I never gotta see that man again. I’m OK with never seeing that young man again in my life. Bull rush different — Dawg, it’s different. You know that it’s coming, you brace yourself. He’s different. Jared Verse is different. He will be a defensive player of the year one of these days. Mark my words.”
Armstead rounded out his list with more experienced edge defenders like Myles Garrett, Maxx Crosby, and Trey Hendrickson. It’s good company for Verse to be in at any point in his career, but a particularly good one when there’s reason to think he’s just scratching the surface of what he’ll do in the NFL.
ZooeyModeratorPrisco’s NFL Top 100 players of 2025:
54
Jared Verse
Los Angeles Rams LB
Verse had 4.5 sacks as a rookie, but the pressure numbers show how dominant he can be as an edger player. He did rack up a lot of them on his way to winning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. He’s also good in the run game. This could be his breakout sack season.63
Puka Nacua
Los Angeles Rams WR
He was limited to 12 games because of injury, yet Nacua still managed to catch 79 passes with three touchdowns. That number was down from the 105 he had as a rookie, but he did average more catches per game.91
Davante Adams
Los Angeles Rams WR
Adams turns 33 in December, so age is starting to become a factor. He was never a burner, so that’s a concern. But the Rams offense would seem to be perfect for how he plays. Playing for the Raiders and Jets, he still had 85 catches and eight touchdown receptions.49ers
19 Fred Warner
25 George Kittle
34 Trent Williams
35 Joey Bosa
41 Christian McCaffreyAnd this is just another example of how Pete Prisco is overestimated at CBS. He’s their main NFL guy, and he just doesn’t have consistently better insight than some of the guys I’ve met at sports bars over the years.
And…Matthew Stafford doesn’t make the list at all.

ZooeyModeratorI really don’t know how I would have handled my Rams fandom had they signed Rodgers. It wouldn’t surprise me if the roster currently has some other anti-vaxxer, conspiracy theorist loons on it, but at least I don’t know about them right now.
Yeah. And I just don’t think he’s a good guy.
I pulled this quote from Davante Adams talking about how positive his experience is with the Rams and Stafford so far. Clearly, he’s used to QBs who blamed him.

There has to be a better timeline.

ZooeyModeratorAlbert Breer@AlbertBreer
For what it’s worth, I’d heard the $10 million number, at the time, was sort of exclusive to the Rams. As in, an example of how badly he wanted to go there in March—”He’s willing to go there for $10 million.”WTF?
ZooeyModeratorI think the 49ers will be pretty good IF McCaffrey and Trent Williams remain healthy.
Big IF, obviously.
They did draft a shit-ton of good young defensive players.
w
vYeah. Watching them lose all those guys, and Deebo getting traded, I thought they were screwed. But, you know, getting rid of Deebo may not be a bad thing for them, and then like you said, they had what may be a really, really good draft. The Rams did an impressive rebuild very quickly, and it may be that the 9ers have done the same thing.
In spite of that, though, I do think they still need all of those topline guys to be healthy for most of the season. If they are, I think the 9ers could be a real nuisance. But if I had to bet…I’d think that keeping Williams, Kittle, and McCaffrey all hitting January healthy is unlikely.
My pre-pre-season speculation has the 49ers “hanging around a lot longer than I would like them to” as a High Water mark, but I think it’s just as likely that they end up with a 7-10 record. They are not going to win the division, but they could end the season as a threat for 2026.
ZooeyModeratorCBS guy is bearish on the 49ers.
2. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers’ 2024 season was a disaster and the offseason wasn’t much better. No team lost more talent, as safety Talanoa Hufanga, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, offensive guard Aaron Banks, cornerback Charvarius Ward, defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, offensive tackle Jaylon Moore, pass rusher Leonard Floyd, defensive tackle Maliek Collins and running back Elijah Mitchell are now playing for new franchises. The 49ers also traded away versatile offensive weapon Deebo Samuel and running back Jordan Mason.Meanwhile, the 49ers’ free agency class is headlined by tight end Luke Farrell and wide receiver Demarcus Robinson. Bryce Huff is an interesting addition via trade, but he was a disappointment in Philadelphia last season. According to CBS Sports Research, San Francisco’s $264 million free-agent spending deficit from players lost to players acquired was the largest in NFL HISTORY.
Teams with the worst deficit in free agent spending over the last five seasons

The exodus of talent is a clear reason why San Francisco had one of the worst NFL offseasons, but this issue could be amplified with Brock Purdy at quarterback. Most NFL fans can admit Purdy is a good starting quarterback, but the question is how good? How many other NFL quarterbacks would you take over him if you were starting your own team? On one hand, Purdy has the highest yards per attempt (8.9) and passer rating (104.9) in NFL history, but he needs plenty of talent around him to be successful.
Purdy has a career record of 27-15, including playoffs. However, he has a losing record (10-11) when any of his “big five” does not suit up — a list which includes Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle and Samuel. That “big five” is no more, as Samuel was traded away this offseason, so Jauan Jennings or Ricky Pearsall will have to step up and produce at a high level. Can Purdy return to MVP form with less talent around him in 2025? The 49ers are +146 to miss the playoffs. On paper, this is not an obvious playoff-caliber team.
ZooeyModeratorIs there anybody who didn’t already know that Trump was on Epstein’s list? The list got out; I saw it. It may be scrubbed now, but it got out. And the media ignored it. This accusation is going nowhere. Other people are on that list, too, and they’ve already killed this story. And Epstein.
But it is fun to see these guys fight.
ZooeyModeratorPro Football Focus’ Mason Cameron ranked the former 2018 UDFA at No. 19 amongst the top 32 centers ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
Doug Smith.

ZooeyModeratorMy guess is that the Rams were targeting Colston Loveland with the Panthers’ pick.
Look at who was drafted in the next 10 picks, and of all those guys,…it’s Loveland.
