Furthermore, of course, the NY Times (and CNN, and WaPo) would love to have gender and sexuality issues dominate the conversation, not class and social inequality. Doubling down on 2 women reinforces that focus.

It’s kind of curious. I don’t think they want to endorse Warren alone because she is considered progressive by many people, and the NY Times doesn’t want to be seen as going All In on progressivism. So Sanders is out right from the beginning. That leaves Warren, a bunch of people all running in the same lane, and a few outsiders. I can only think that they arrived at Klobuchar because…Biden is going to unravel in the daylight, and Buttigieg is in way over his head at this point in his career, and Bloomberg represents everything that Americans are rebelling against right now. Nobody considers Steyer, Yang, Gabbard, or anyone else to be a serious candidate, and that leaves Klobuchar. It’s the least embarrassing endorsement for the NY Times. So they straddle the fence with the two “safest” endorsements, and burnish their image as objective and even-handed while taking credit for being slightly forward by splitting the endorsement between two women. This isn’t about an Endorsement this time around. 2020 is too dicey. This is about the image of the NY Times.

Oh…hey. A former student of mine is running for congress out here. I found out through Facebook. Totally progressive platform. He’s taking on a long time Dem incumbent, however, so…but still! Pretty cool.

My favorite thing is “When Bernie loses, they will run riot through the streets, beating up people, setting buildings on fire, smashing windows, and raging like Mad Dogs. Just Like Last Election.”

    Just watched the video.

I don’t think it’s going to backfire on Warren much. A little, maybe. What it has done is riled up the women who blame Bernie for Hillary’s defeat, but they were already supporting Warren. It’s not going to peel away Sanders supporters to Warren’s camp. People who support Sanders – like you said – they know there’s no way Bernie would say that. And I don’t think it will cost Sanders votes in the primaries, but it could cost some votes in the general election should he somehow survive the DNC/media onslaught to win the nomination. Some Democrats are going to give Sanders “a taste of his own medicine,” and either not vote, or vote 3rd party.

Taibbi has reported that there were no witnesses to the meeting between Sanders and Warren. Only Warren was there. Which means she is the source of the story. Warren has (allegedly) been consulting both Hillary and Obama – and Obama is reported to be opposed to Sanders, and said he will personally intervene if necessary to prevent him from getting the nomination. Hillary would also hate to see Sanders nominated. And the day before the final debate before Iowa…this story breaks. This is Warren’s responsibility. She has done this deliberately to make sure that questions will be asked about this during tonight’s debate…on CNN…the network that broke the story. She is going for Sanders’ jugular right now, and she has a plan to capture the debate tonight.

This is easily the worst thing Warren has done. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but this is dangerous. She could damage the progressive cause by pissing off some people who might support Sanders as a second choice if she loses. This is brutal.

And I agree with you. No way Bernie would say a woman can’t win. The accusation is ridiculous on the face of it. I hope he has a successful tactic to quietly dismiss this, and move on. I think he will say that if Warren wins the nomination, he will support her tirelessly, just like he supported Hillary, and then talk about issues that matter.

I hope Warren drops out soon, or else there will be a brokered convention, and we’re screwed. Trump will get re-elected.

Ocasio-Cortez’s Revolt Against DCCC ‘Exactly What We Need’ Say Progressive Democrats
Congresswoman from New York withholds dues from the party machine and launches a new PAC to help insurgent left-wing candidates.

Just wanted to mention that I am a fan of this move. Not giving dues to the DCCC who is hostile to progressives is pretty bold, and she will no doubt catch flak for it. And she’s formed a PAC to work for other progressive candidates, putting her directly at odds with the Dem establishment.

The National Review says, though, that she takes half the cut into her own campaign funds which isn’t a good look, if true.

Once the trial begins, Sanders and Warren are off the campaign trail, leaving Biden and Buttigieg out there without interference.

    ==================

Well, maybe thats why Pelosi is doin it.

    w
    v

Well…I have had my eye on this since she first announced she was holding them.

But she is putting the timing of it into McConnell’s hands. He will certainly want to time the vote before the State of the Union address Feb. 4. And he was talking about knocking the articles out of the park as quickly as possible…just a day or two of heated rhetoric for media sound bites, and then be done with the thing.

So it may be the trial doesn’t detain the Senate very long. In the mean time, Ocasio-Cortez is apparently going to campaign on Sanders’ behalf.

Elizabeth Warren has got to drop out ASAP. She could fuck this whole thing up, and force a brokered convention in which the DCCC would fuck the whole thing up, and give us 4 more years of Trump, and 4 more years of cementing the wall around minority rule.

Anybody have any idea why Pelosi is sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate this week?

I don’t see anything saying the McConnell was compromising his commitment to run a farce trial.

One thing I’ve been watching on this…Senators are REQUIRED to be in the Senate for the trial.

    ESPN Stats & Info@ESPNStatsInfo
The Titans won Saturday despite being outgained 530-300 (-230).

Wow. I only watched the hi-lites so I just figured the Titans had more yards.

Who the hell are the Titans anyway? How did they do that? The Ravens were a Terminator this year.

I watched a lot of it. Seemed to me that the Ravens had some dropped balls, and Jackson got increasingly skittish and uncontrolled.

One of my takeaways from the season: Todd is done as a gamebreaker. He’s a good running back, but he has lost his burst. He is not elite anymore. He is a good, but complementary player, getting paid now like he is The Guy Who Drives the Offense. He’s not that guy any longer, and I don’t know what they do about that.

Biggest Disappointment: My first thought would be OL here, but injuries were really the main story here, and there are promising signs on the young’uns. Then there is the regression of Goff. But that’s part OL, part adjustments made by defenses around the league that he needs to grow to recognize. So…I’m calling Henderson the biggest disappointment of the season. He just never happened. And RB is a position where rookies can often splash. No splash. Barely a ripple.

Biggest Appointment (what’s the opposite of disappointment?): Higbee. Cool. Go Higbee. Honorable Mention here is Cooper Kupp who came back unbelievably early from that knee injury.

I don’t know line play at all. I thought Hav had a couple of good seasons, but he sure didn’t look good this year. It is really a bummer that Noteboom and Allen went out for the year and lost all that development/continuity time, and now have rehab on top of that. The Rams are not going to win the division without an improved OL, that’s for sure.

I was surprised the Rams played their starters throughout. I kind of expected a preseason game. That wouldn’t have been a good “farewell” to the coliseum I guess, but then…not sure anybody in LA cares.

The NFC West is going to be a load next year, by the look of it.

It’ll be interesting to see how well the Rams draw in their new palace. I’m not sure it will make much difference. It’s more likely to draw curiosity-seekers than fans of the team. It’s going to take the Rams a while to rebuild their fan base, I would think.
