I love this from a defensive coach. He gets it. And also speaking from experience. PAP blocks take a certain level of confidence, especially on the front side. You have to sell run and you’re way more confident in your technique if you’ve been running the ball.

You need to stop the feet of the defensive lineman and they have to believe you’re bringing it. If you don’t, they sense pass right away and can attempt to get off the block quicker making you a) scared to sell the run next time and/or b) getting beat quicker

As would be expected because of the flexibility of Ramsey’s role and the various alignments of Metcalf, Raheem Morris believes a lot of Ramsey/Metcalf is possible Thursday night, as well as a lot of Williams/Lockett. Hearing water also wet, per sources with knowledge.

Again, the biggest point of Ramsey’s expanded role is the opportunity for wider options of movement as receivers also move and the hope he can affect the ball on more snaps (pass AND run). That was the vision that started evolving last year on into this one.

Leonard Floyd says he has been working extra before and after practice with Reggie Scott to keep his ankle managed after dealing with an initial injury in camp. He says it’s now feeling great and he’s ready to go (has not missed a game regardless).

I guess I’ll just say it again before rolling it over – if you’ve been following along you’ll know that it’s definitely not always going to be perfect between Stafford and his WRs here as they work out their chemistry in their first several live games together (ever!). The point,

and apologies for being a broken record, is the problem-solving in real time. Noted after seeing them troubleshoot all spring and summer – it was always going to open with some highs&some lows. The point is how they work through it (& how they can evolve&change in the pass game)!

I think you can expect another game or quarter or coupla quarters where things are off at some point here in the early stretch. You can also probably expect fireworks. It’s all not going to happen perfectly all at once but as we have seen when good QBs join new teams, if it

starts to click every week consistently down the stretch and you stay ahead in the win column prior, you can make quite a lot out of that.

Anyway, not really a sexy or spicy take, and I understand all the questions and comments I’ve gotten, but that’s simply how they’re approaching it – realistically, and trying to find the balance between patience and urgency in the early games re. the build.

Jalen Ramsey said he respectfully didn’t want to get too into the details about anything or anybody before watching film but did note the explosive passing and run plays that they had prided themselves on containing continuing to be an issue.

Stafford going through a couple throws he wants back including the INT and a third down miss to Kupp. Indicated it was a bit about the feel for the receivers and getting adjusted to how they come out of breaks/stumbles and how they leverage against DBs (including the former)

“I can go out there and play better. When the QB plays well, the team has an opportunity to win games.”

Kenny Young says postgame, “we’re not going to let (this loss) define us.” Says they were out-executed.

Sean McVay said that he felt the team had installed a good defensive plan for the Cardinals ahead of the matchup.

Sean McVay says he considered challenging that Stafford keeper that was ruled short at the goal line but the staff in the box told him they saw it was short.

Lots of questions for Rams’ defense after this one – even as Murray played an excellent game – in a year where some regression was expected.

The offense also turned the ball over twice and those were AZ TDs, and couldn’t get TDs where they needed them.

Long was exposed quite a bit against the Cardinals. A.J. Green gave him a ton of trouble, catching five passes for 67 yards and a touchdown, which came on a 41-yard bomb where Long was also called for defensive holding. Hopefully this was an outlier of a performance from the young cornerback, but Kyler Murray picked on Long and had success doing it.

Stafford’s numbers don’t look all that bad (280 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT), but he padded his stats in garbage time when the game was out of reach. If you watched the game, you’d know he wasn’t sharp whatsoever and missed a handful of throws that he typically makes. His receivers weren’t much help – Cooper Kupp dropped a pass and Tyler Higbee couldn’t come down with a low touchdown grab in the fourth quarter – but Stafford needs to play better than he did against Arizona. He was fortunate to not have a second interception, which was negated by a penalty.

The Rams shot themselves in the foot, Sean McVay wasn't aggressive enough and the defense has clearly regressed from last year.
